In the heart of the beautiful Derbyshire Dales and on the edge of the Peak District, Owslow Farm is a working organic beef and lamb farm and the cottage offers a combination of traditional features and modern accommodation. The property is approximately 400 years old and stands in its three hundred and sixty acres overlooking Carsington Reservoir. It is very welcoming and boasts exposed stone and beams, and fabulous countryside views.
There are many facilities on the farm that can be enjoyed by the whole family, making this a fantastic property for a holiday in this area. We lamb our sheep during March and April - children are most welcome to help bottle feed lambs and calves under adult supervision, on request. We are extremely dog friendly but we do ask that dogs are kept on a lead when walking the fields around this time of year. We also have a range of animals such as lamas, free-range hens, ducks, geese, dogs and cats.
We live in the main farmhouse which adjoins the cottage, and are there if needed, but try to keep a low profile and not intrude on your holiday. We are extremely family friendly as we have a young family ourselves, and have additional equipment i.e. stairgate, travel cot, highchair, booster seat, bouncy chair and bed guard rails available for use on request.
Everything will be clean, warm and welcoming for your arrival and we hope that your stay at Owslow Cottage will be as enjoyable as possible.

The cottage was refurbished in 2012 and decorated to a 4 star standard. It is central heated and double glazed. The hallway leads to a contemporary, cosy well equipped kitchen, which adjoins the sitting room/dining room. Upstairs, the two bedrooms are nicely presented and decorated, giving a real country cottage feel to the property.
|Further details outdoors|
The cottage sits within the grounds of the farmyard and the main door to the property is reached through the side entrance which houses an extremely useful space for walking boots, wellies, jackets/coats etc. Bikes and other outdoor activity equipment can also be stored in this area. Outside there is a sunny front terrace with garden furniture to seat 4 people, where the views of the reservoir are both relaxing and breathtaking.
Welcome pack and lots of information on 'what to do' and where to eat & drink is available at the cottage on arrival. We also provide some basic kitchen necessities such as kitchen roll, dish cloth & scourer, foil, cling film, food bags, handsoap, washing up liquid etc and a small variety of refreshments such as tea, coffee, sugar etc to get your break at the cottage off to a great start. Free range eggs are also available on the farm for a small price (ask at the main farmhouse door).
The Derbyshire region
The nearest village of Carsington is quiet and lies between the market towns of Wirksworth and Ashbourne in the Derbyshire Peak District area. Matlock and Belper are also other towns which are easily accessible by car or bus.Dovedale in the Peak District National Park is ideal for walking and is 15 minutes drive away. For anyone wishing to hire bikes the Tissington Trail is just up the road and provides traffic free road all the way to the High Peak Trail in the Buxton area. The Manifold valley can be accessed in Dovedale. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Sudbury Hall, and Kedleston Hall are all only 30 minutes away. Alton Towers and the potteries are 30/40 minutes away making this a very central position for all these Derbyshire and Staffordshire attractions and many more as well.
Ashbourne is renowned for its excellent range of shops clustered around the historic market place and long the main streets. Ashbourne boasts a medieval street pattern, historic buildings and widely considered the finest street of Georgian buildings in Derbyshire, giving the towns many visitors the opportunity to enjoy a scene which has remained largely unchanged in appearance since the 18th century. Ashbourne also has a festival every year.Carsington Reservoir has been a very popular visitor attraction since the reservoir was opened by the Queen in May 1992. It is just a few minutes along the road in a car or can be accessed on foot directly across Owslow Farmland straight from the cottage. The reservoir has all the water sports and family entertainment expected of a water sport centre. The nearest golf course is Ashbourne golf club which is centrally located to the town of Ashbourne, just 10/15 minutes drive away.

"An Excellent Break From Busy Life"
From start to finish our stay at Owslow cottage was a god send. Upon arrival the farm was so quiet and tranquil. The cottage was amazing, spotlessly clean with everything from cutlery to washing machine and dish washer at your disposal. It was so warm and cosy with a stack of DVD's to help you chill out in the comfortable living room. I came here with my wife and two young children. They all loved it. The owners are fine with you venturing out and exploring the farm, my children loved seeing the sheep and cows. All I can say is it was an amazing place stay for a lovely weekend. The owners are very nice and happy to help with anything. The location is brilliant too within walking distance to Carsington water and very near to some lovely pubs and other attractions. I would rate this 10/10 and I Will definitely be booking again soon!

"lovely, well kept cottage and friendly, helpful owners"
My husband and I stayed at Owslow cottage with my parents earlier this year. The cottage was ample for two couples. The bedrooms were very beautifully presented - light, airy, stylish and comfortable. Very comfy beds. Mum complained about the noisy cocktail waking her up, but that's part of the attain of staying on a working farm, and it certainly didn't bother me. The living area was similarly presented, nice and open plan which suited us. It was a little dark though, and would benefit from some outside space (the yard at the back would be nice with a wee table and chair set). The owners couldn't have been more helpful. They lent us maps and local mountain bike guides and shared local info. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Is a beautiful part of the Peak.

Superb location, with great views of carsington water & within easy travelling distance of the whole of the Peak District, ideal for walking, cycling, watersports and sightseeing but the cottage & surrounding farm is so relaxing that you won't want to leave. Tip: after a full days walking & not wanting to leave the cottage, I ordered a fantastic Indian takeaway for the grand at Belper using the just eat app on my phone

"Lovely place, very friendly people"
We booked the cottage on the morning that we actually went. Had a great time - lovely place, very comfortable and very friendly people. We watched a lamb being born, which was special. The cottage is right in the middle on the farm, on the farmyard and I was worried it might be noisy, but infact it was very quiet - except for the occasional baaaing from the sheep ;-) Mobile reception not great on the farm so a bonus to have wi-fi.

"Lovely cottage in a great position."
My husband and I enjoyed a sunny weekend away - our first with our four month old son. The owners helpfully provided us with all the bits and bobs necessary e.g. bouncy chair etc. The cottage is very close to Carsington Lake and the visitor centre/walks (although we had to access these by car as the road was not suitable for walking along). Cottage was clean, comfortable (particularly the bed), nicely decorated and had a beautiful view of the lake. A good time was had by all!

"Cosy cottage with gorgeous views, we'll be back"
We stayed at Owslow Cottage the first weekend in November. The weather was wet and cold, it was dark when we arrived, but once we were inside we had forgotten all about that. The cottage is beautifully decorated and extremely cosy. We loved the cute fireplace in the lounge, the comfortable sofas, and especially the super comfy master bedroom. I have never slept so well. We were intending on bringing my grandparents but due to ill health they could not come. I would say due to the size of the twin room and size of the property is more suited to 2 adults and 2 children but its perfect for a couple. It has everything you need and it's in a perfect location overlooking Carsington water. It's not too far from Bakewell, Chatsworth, Matlock, etc. Our only regrets were we didn't get to look round the farm as we ran out of time, but we loved the cottage, it exceeded our expectations and we will come back soon. When the weather gets better in spring it will be a fantastic place to come and see all the farm animals! Our only small gripe was the directions were not particularly clear and if you had to been to that area before they can be a bit vague. I would suggest a little map on the directions for clarity. The arrival at the cottage was odd, we knew the owner was out and were advised the keyword be left for us, which we had no issues with. When we arrived it was pitch black and it was not clear whereabouts the cottage was in the dark. Apparently the security light was not working hence the confusion. However, none of this would deter us from coming again! Thank you for our fantastic stay Natalie, we hope to stay again in 2013. Have a great Christmas!

"Comfortable cottage in a delightful farmyard setting"
We had a very enjoyable stay. We had not visited the area before and were very taken with it. We particulary enjoyed walks in the stunning countryside, the nearby pub and farm shop, and visits to Wirksworth, the local market town. The cottage was also very convenient for Carsington Water, where our daughter was competing in a sailing event, and we could see the fleet out on the water from the sitting room window.

"Lovely cottage in stunning rural location"
The owners were very helpful - we were offered stair gates, travel cots and high chairs for our children, and the cottage itself is generally child friendly. The property itself is beautiful - welcoming, full of character and decorated to a very high standard inside. We loved the location - although remote, the cottage is just a short drive from Carsington Water, which has a fabulous visitor centre and lots to do, and 15-20 mins from Matlock. Definitely recommended.
