“Brilliant weekend” We had an amazing stay at the cottage. There were 10 of us and we went on a walk, relaxed, used the pool and cooked lovely meals. A great place in a wonderful location for weekends away. The house was spacious and beautifully decorated.

“A fabulous place to stay, everything you could want and more!” My husband, myself and 2 boys (aged 12 & 8) have just returned from a week's stay at this beautiful cottage. This was the first one I looked at and having trawled around numerous websites this was still the one I came back to. Everything about it was beautiful, the cottage and the location; a stones throw from the river, our sons were out there constantly feeding the ducks! A gentle stroll along the river to the centre of Bourton is just a 2 minute walk. The cottage itself was spotless with everything you could want. There is no Wi-Fi and it was sometimes difficult getting a phone signal, but that's understandable in a 3 storey cottage of this age & was not an inconvenience at all. I was concerned that I'd have difficulty parking but we had no problems at all. You won't find anywhere better to stay in Bourton, we are already planning our next trip and will definitely stay at The Cottage every time.

“Superb quality cottage - centrally located for surrounding Cotswold villages” The cottage could not have been more welcoming - we arrived after dark, having travelled all da,y to find that the heating and lights were switched on and a more than generous welcome package had been left for our enjoyment. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the bed linen and towels were of excellent quality. The beds were very comfortable and for a cottage the rooms were quite spacious. The kitchen was very well equipped - to the point that my husband said "I bet they don't have this..." only to find it in the cupboard. The plumbing - pressure of shower, hot water etc., was very good, no noisy tank filling noises in the middle of the night. The heating and log burner were gas and very efficient - There was also a very good 'house guide' left by the owner.. We were travelling from outside of the UK and the owner contacted us the day before and on the evening of arrival to make sure all was OK for us - she was extremely helpful and obliging and we could not recommend this cottage highly enough. We were 4 adults travelling together and the cottage was more than spacious enough for us.

“Absolutely Beautiful - A Relaxing Weekend Made Perfect” I would 100% rate The Old Diary Cottages. They were immacutely presented in a gorgeous peaceful location. We stayed in the slightly smaller cottage of the 2 and for my partner and I , I would say there was more than enough space. The hot-tub is a lovely added bonus which we enjoyed on both nights of our stay. The location of the cottages are perfect for that relaxing weekend to get you away from the hussle and bussle of every day life. There are no pubs/places to eat locally so you will have to drive, however it is only a 5 minute drive and the scenary is so beautiful its nice to drive and see it all. The cottages are located on a farm which made it ideal for lovely walks in the country side, just make sure you take wellies ! Jon and family are lovely welcoming people and were ever so easy to approach. Overall I would strongly recommend this break to friends and family.

“Everyone in our party of 10 agreed - BHF was absolutely perfect” This year it was my turn to organise the annual reunion and I managed to find the gem that is BHF. It was by far the best venue yet. We had several barbecues on the patio in the blazing sunshine with the best views you could ask for, absolutely perfect. Better still it was the weekend of Fairford Airshow and we had a fantastic flyby from the Red Arrows... thanks for arranging that for us Peter and Linda ;)

“Idyllic Birthday Treat Getaway” Treated my mother to a birthday weekend away with the idea to experience an idyllic, peaceful, relaxing getaway in the Cotswolds in a traditional, characteristic, warm, cosy cottage in the cold wintery month of January and this was exactly what we got! The village is quaint with a variety of pubs, restaurants and tea rooms. There are plenty of different graded walks around the area leading you into near by villages. The cottage itself was brilliant, exactly what I had in mind. We spent cold evenings in sat in front of the fire. The low ceilings, beams and spiral stair case were charming features. It is a old fashioned cosy cottage with all the 'mod cons' anyone would need. Hilary & Alistair were extremely accommodating to our needs and even left my mother a birthday card and bottle of bubbly ;) which was very well received! Would definitely recommend cottage to friends/family and would return their myself. Helen x

“A perfect retreat” We had a wonderful relaxing stay in Well Cottage, so cosy with a wood burning stove & beams. Situated in a lovely peaceful square, yet only minutes from all amenities that Bourton has to ofer. The owner Bette & her daughter Dawn came to introduce themselves & were so friendly, offering helpful information about the cottage & the area. They had put a lot of thought into what was needed to make a comfortable holiday, & there was nothing lacking. We would definitely recommend this cottage if you like quaint & quirky.

“Beautiful!” The cottage is lovely! Some original features but with the luxury of central heating! We thought it was a fab touch to have wine and milk in the fridge, although we left it for the next guest as we'd already bought some with us. We then found the chocolate cake much to the kids delight. The cottage is very well equipped and felt like we were in someone's well loved home and not a rental property. I'd prefer to use the word cosy as opposed to small...... you need to appreciate how old the building is and understand that of course there'll not be big modern fitted wardrobes etc, however it was plenty big enough for us 4. Full marks to whoever does the cleaning as it was spotless. The surrounding area is beautiful. It's a tiny town but still manages to cram in 4 pubs in walking distance along with a couple of higher end restaurants and deli/cafes. A small word to anyone with small children...... only 2 of the 4 pubs offer a dedicated children's menu so just bear that in mind. Would love to come back another time when the castle is open. Great stay altogether!

“Beautiful cottage - I highly recommend this rental! When can I book again!!” The Decor through out is gorgeous, plus comfortable and clean. Coffee maker was an added bonus :) plus having a down stairs toilet with another shower was great. The decking is a great spot, right on the lake. Such a peaceful and relaxing stay! Having 3D movies, the Wii and Amazon Prime are great added perks also. Comfortable beds and loads of extra bedding/towels were available. The kitchen was fully kitted out, and we were welcomed with a card and shortbread :) We did notice the tray of Alcohol, but we brought enough of our own ;) is this provided for guest? I can't wait to book my next stay!! Thanks.

Why Cotswolds?

The Cotswolds is, without doubt, one of England's most beautiful regions. In recent years it's become a firm celebrity favourite, and with such a diverse range of restaurants, shops and scenery, it's not hard to see why.

Consisting of sprawling hills, thatched cottages, history-rich churches and ancient mansions, it couldn't be prettier. Book yourself a picture postcard cottage in a quaint village, a spacious barn conversion out in the countryside, or an apartment with all the amenities of a bustling market town.

Where to go in Cotswolds?

The Cotswolds has been seducing its visitors for centuries. Here, the air feels cleaner, the villages are greener and there's quintessential charm at every turn.

If you're looking for stately homes akin to Downton's finest, a trip to Frampton Court Estate, Stanway House, Rodmarton Manor or Cornwell Manor, among others, will be right up your street. For a taste of village life, you're equally spoilt for choice. Some of our favourites include Naunton, Painswick and Bourton on Water (affectionately nicknamed the Venice of the Cotswolds). All boast that famous honey-hued Cotswold stone and effortless style.

Farmers' markets are also popular and in abundance here. The market towns of Chipping Campden and Cirencester offer among some of the best produce.

And don't forget to check out one of the countless country pubs. No trip to the Cotswolds is complete without some hearty local produce and artisan ale by the fire. Wherever you choose to stay, there's bound to be an excellent pub nearby. Even the smallest villages have exceptionally fresh food on offer.

Things to do in Cotswolds

Spread across six counties, the Cotswolds boasts plenty of fun and memorable activities for all the family (pets included!). On the top of many people's lists is the awe-inspiring Gloucester Cathedral. Built over 1300 years ago and steeped in history, it's well worth taking a tour of the catacombs and bell tower. If you're lucky, you may even catch the award-winning choir in action.

For little and big kids alike, Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens in the popular village of Burford is a must-visit. Set in over 160 acres of parkland, you'll discover lions, rhinos, giraffes and much, much more. Plus, the park is dedicated to looking after special endangered species, so your visit will be helping keep these marvellous creatures alive and well.

Other popular attractions include the beautiful grounds and buildings of Blenheim Palace. Birthplace to a certain Sir Winston Churchill, it's a masterpiece of 18th century architecture and splendour.

Regardless of your age or budget, there's no better way to embrace the beauty than with a walk in the great outdoors.

So so lovely - the photos don't do it justice

The location is perfect being so close to Cheltenham, but feeling like a proper country getaway too. The views are beautiful, the apartment is large, but with a cosy feel - very luxurious too. Outstanding!

Upon arriving at 1 Albion Cottage, we were greeted by the lovely Dorota and Mike. Both were extremely helpful as to showing us the facilities in the cottage and the parking which is located directly behind the property. The cottage was so cosy and Christmassy and situated within good reach of local pubs and restaurants. We came to stay for a New Years break so Dorota and Mike kindly left us a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge to pop open at New year! Lovely touch. Thank you to you both, we had such a nice time and will definitely be back! X (Finally, I left my laptop at the cottage and Dorota immediately messaged to tell me and even kindly had it couriered to me the next day! Wonderful service!)see more
Quintessential Cottage - close to village pool & pub
Comfortable warm cottage in typical Cotswolds village

The house was very clean and comfortable and nice and warm in winter. It is not a house for tall people as the ceilings are low. I am 5foot 10’´ (1,78) and could not wear heels in the kitchen. No jumping for joy here! The attic bedroom was pronounced very cosy, but the house stairs are only for the agile. Loved the kitchen/dining area, in fact we never used the dining room. A lovely decorated Christmas tree had been installed for us which was much appreciated. Beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was very comfortable to cook in and had a Nespresso machine which was great. Disappointed to find the ceramic hob was not induction. Cooking was a pain. Only one blunt kitchen knife!!! Bring your own if like us you cook. No salad servers, no milk jug, no lemon squeezer, no cheese knife. Great saucepans but poor frying pans. We rented the cottage for 10 days but had only 1 bath towel each. A change of towels would have been appreciated as there is no tumble drier. A second small towel for hair would also have been appreciated. Loved the village pub The Five Alls just 300m up the road, ate there 5 times and popped in for drinks. We would rent here again but would bring some extra kitchen utensils with us,see more

Fabulous house, plenty of room for 10 people staying with 5 double bedrooms and 4 bath/shower rooms, lovely to overlook lake and to feed the swans/ducks, excellent family Christmas, nice sized kitchen for cooking Christmas dinner, family enjoyed walks from house and use of swimming pool, heated outdoors was a particular hit in the middle of Winter! Thank you also for the bottle of bubbly, fresh milk, etc. on arrival. We loved the log burner as it was cold during our visitant sitting round a real fire made it very cosy. We didn't use the local amenities as we had come for a wedding nearby so can't comment on those. However, the surrounding countryside was picturesque and there were lots of lovely dog walks. Clare is an excellent hostess, very friendly and helpful. We would recommend 66 the Street to anyone going to the area. The only thing to watch out for are the stairs, they are very steep!see more
