“Fab little place” We booked our overnight stay last minute in February half term and we weren’t disappointed!! The apartment was perfect for what we needed, and to be honest I could’ve stayed there a few more nights. It’s about a 2 minute drive into Whitby and if we’d stayed longer and the weather was better we would’ve walked. The apartment was clean, tidy and well set out. There’s a view of the abbey from the living room and bedroom windows. There’s a Sainsbury’s and Aldi at the end of the road which was ideal. I wouldn’t hesitate to book in here again.

“Good location for a Scarborough break” Located at a high point close to the castle, the view from the main living area is panoramic. Great to cook, sit and eat or relax with an every changing scene. We found all we needed to properly self-cater in the kitchen area. The flat was generally clean and tidy, except for the oven, which needed a deep clean. You don`t get a great view without some effort and the walk back uphill may tax some guests. Our main gripe was the lack of parking spaces. We were loath to move the car once we had parked as every available spot was taken up the moment a space came available.

“Excellent apartment in the city center overlooking the river.” This is a first class apartment in the center of York. Everything needed was supplied and the owners kindly provided a starter pack of essentials and some nice extras which were greatly appreciated. Communication with the owners could not be faulted and we were greeted on arrival and shown round the apartment. Parking is in a designated space which is bonus in a city center location. Despite the close proximity to the city the apartment was extremely quite with no noise from outside or other residents in the block. We have stayed in a number of apartments over the years and can genuinely say this is one of the best we have stayed in. Thanks to Sue and John for your hospitality.

“Wondeful holiday with bonus of accessible accommodation” Having looked endlessly for accessible accommodation for an accompanied wheelchair user both through tourist information in the North Yorkshire area and searches online I was delighted to come across The Shippen which was due for completion mid 2018. Making contact with the owners as it approached completion they were extremely helpful in checking the property was going to be suitable before proceeding with booking and provided lots of photos. On arrival we absolutely weren't disappointed and myself and family members enjoyed one of the nicest weeks holiday we have had in a long while helped by the warm late summer sunshine. Both Karen and Jeff were extremely helpful and welcoming, ensuring everything was so my independence could be maximised during my stay given people with different levels of impairment have different needs etc. The property was spotlessly clean and modern and the large arched windows made it a lovely light space. As the weather was so pleasant we spent most of the daytime hours visiting the local area in which there was so much to see but local towns of Thirst and Northallerton are only a short distance away for those wanting to just chill out in this lovely quiet location, each cottage having its own outdoor seating area and other facilities on site to enjoy if you wish. As the weather was kind to us we had no issues with heating but with a woodburner all set to be installed this would be a really cosy place to come away and relax in peaceful surroundings during the colder months. The generous welcome hamper was a real treat and a few fridge essentials meant we could make a cup of tea on arrival. Most definitely we are hoping to re visit in 2019 but anyone considering booking this property you won't be disappointed and whilst it is suitable for individuals with mobility problems with wide doorways and a wet room it is equally suitable for able bodied with no special modifications making it appear as a 'disabled' property. Finally, also appreciated was the flexibility offered with travel dates and there being no specific requirement to book for a full 7 days and from a set date as is often the case. Many thanks Karen and Jeff for making us feel so welcome and we look forward to our return visit as I need to revisit the arcades of south bay Scarborough !

“lovely minibreak.” Pod was not 100% wind poof but we where warm had a lovely mini break away. “Cosy and friendly” We booked the 2 cottages and they removed a door to make them straight through. The cottages had everything we needed and was plenty of room.yes they need a lick of paint and a tidy up but apart from that they are lovely. A 20 minute walk takes you into Whitby. It's about 6 pound to get back by taxi. I would recommend for families and would book again.

“Escape From The Crowds.” Well I finally found found The Cottage after making three about turns on the road. Down a wee country track, we were met by Ingid, Matt and Knight Arthur...I grid offered to help me out with buying a couple of items for when Shen went shopping , so kind, very nice pleasant people.... Arthur promptly showed us around...my two dogs scurried off noses to the ground then finally the kettle went on..... On the Monday I bought fire requirements, and on Monday night I lit a fire, later adding a couple of logs. How lovely! Took us back to our childhood, toasting tea cakes at the fireside. My cousin 86yrs old slept excellently....I less so, as I found the double bed a little hard....I'm used to a softer bed, but as the week went on I adjusted and was happy to wander off in my dreams... Some lovely areas for walking, with breath taking countryside and fabulous vistas... Our more smiley moments were coming across roadside barrows selling all kinds of goodies...made the obligatory visit to Whitby Abbey, Scarborough, Ryedale Museum at Hutton-le-Hole absolutely a must...finishing off with a mighty tasty meal at the pub next to the museum. While staying at the cottage I bought my vegetables from the top farm, the most yummy carrots I've tasted for a long time...but a huge selection of fruit and veg, eggs too.... It's peaceful, quiet, and dark with a clear sky so star gazing was an option too...Outdoor seating, if you delight in a glass of wine at the end of the day.... Cheers Ingrid, Matt (hope you're back too good health) and to Knight Arthur...because that's just what you are...A Knight to the Rescue, Thank You Arthur, hope you made the Rugby Team ....take care all of you. “Brilliant location” Perfectly located to access the beautiful surrounding countryside with great walks for my collie. In the evening it's a short stroll to the local pubs and restaurants. Would definitely recommend Panetti's and The Taste of India. The cottage has everything you need with the addition of the great dog friendly garden with a gate that leads direct to a walk along the beck. The bottle of wine was a lovely touch. “Relaxed & Chilled.” The Best thing I can say about our hosts Louise & Steve was that we never saw them apart from collecting and returning the keys. Let me explain more on this - we were met by our friendly and amicable hosts who explained how the hot tub worked, showed us inside the summer house where the bbq was and things such as where beach & nearby pubs were. We were advised if we needed anything at all and just ask, as I started didn't need to as EVERYTHING was perfect. We came for 3 stress free night's and that is exactly what we got, and was heavenly. The hot tub was cleaned daily and used up to 3 times a day by us and was great and even our autistic son adored it which was a real bonus. What Louise & Steve have created is a little haven with tremendous attention to detail, from the lights on the external trees to the little fairy tree house. The garden was large and ideal for my dog but so was the beach a gentle 10 mins stroll down the road. I highly recommend this stay as long as you want to chill & relax, if you are used to being constantly on the go this is a must to wind down. I had a chat with Louise on departure and told her to expect another visit from us - it was heavenly, and highly recommend.

“Great bungalow, perfect for our stay!” Great to have a parking spot, right outside the door. The bungalow is very spacious and clean with everything needed for a lovely break away. The garden is a real sun trap, so we made the most of it on sunny days! The location was perfect as it is in walking distance of the town centre, Flemingate, shops and restaurants, with a short 20 minute drive to the Hornsea for when we fancied being at the coast. We loved it thanks and can't fault it!

Ruswarp cottage

“Cosy, clean cottage with lovely garden and a great base for exploring the area.” This cottage makes a super base for exploring either locally on foot or a short journey in the car will get you to Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Sandsend and the gorgeous countryside - all of these places make for a fabulous day out. Eskmoor cottage, although on the main road through Ruswarp provided a peaceful retreat at the end of a busy day. It has a great outdoor space at the rear which is reached via a short private path and is safely fenced in and there's also a covered bench area immediately outside the rear of the cottage and it all feels quite private. We had no problem parking up the hill, (a short walk from the cottage) even in August. We unloaded and loaded the car directly outside the cottage but you cannot park there. There are local shops in Ruswarp for provisions and anything else can be obtained in Whitby. The decor of the lounge and main bedroom is traditional, clean and fresh and in keeping with the age of the property. The lobby at the front is a handy space to leave shoes, etc and the separate door into the lounge means you don't lose the heat. Good value for money.

“Perfect for couples” This was our second stay at Old Low Moor Farm but our first in The Granary. It certainly didn’t disappoint! From the very warm welcome from Karen and Jeff to the thoughtful welcome basket left for us. It’s spotlessly clean and finished to a very high standard. The Granary has everything you need for your stay with plenty of space for two (and a cot if needed) and is very warm and comfortable. The location is really peaceful but convenient for the A19/A1M should you wish to explore everything that the surrounding area has to offer. We can also recommend the Dog & Gun in the village although you definitely need to book ahead. We love this place so much that we are returning over Xmas and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this little gem!

“So good we booked it twice!!” My wife and 5 friends booked the lodge as there annual get away last week end. They have a lovely time Laurie and his family are absolutely lovely, so helpful and always available to assist. In fact my wife left a Christmas present bought at the Christmas market in the bedroom we rang him and it arrived first class today. With no cost to us. Thank you Laurie !!! The brand new massive hot tub went down a storm for my wife and friends. Which was great unfortunately when we went the old hot tub broke but Laurie had no issue providing a very fair discount and refund. The lodge is open and well laid out, beds and comfortable and each room has an en-suite. The Lodge is well equipped and the farm animals right outside are great for the kids. For our biking weekend it was perfectly located on the cinder path and within easy walk of Whitby or £4 in a taxi after a lovely night out!!! I am sure that both my wife and her friends and myself and friends will be returning....... Look forward to the new hot tub Laurie!!!

About Yorkshire

Yorkshire, England's largest county, comprises four main areas; the City of York, North Yorkshire, West Riding and East Riding. The largest area is North Yorkshire, covering nearly 3,500 square miles. Yorkshire's landscape is picturesque and varied, including three national parks. The county is very welcoming with the local's Yorkshire wit, friendliness and humor a reason to visit in itself. It is home to vast swathes of unspoilt countryside, littered only with picturesque villages and genteel towns. For vibrant and lively areas, head to Leeds or Sheffield. Yorkshire also represents history - every facet of the British experience is represented here, from Roman times, to the Celtic tribes, to the War of the Roses, to the 20th century.

Things to do in Yorkshire

Yorkshire has endless attractions and activities for a short or an extended stay. First and foremost, driving through the hills and dales of the countryside is an activity unto itself - stopping for a picnic or taking pictures help to commit long lasting memories. From the Moors to the Dales, to east, south or west the Yorkshire area ‘wows' with its beauty. A hike, bicycle ride, a swim in a lake or river, or a day of sports is more than enough for a fun-filled week.

The cities and towns of Yorkshire offer plenty to see and do as well. Millions of visitors to the National Railway Museum in York have experienced the majesty and history of this form of transportation. The National Cole Mining Museum in Overton, a staple of British economy in the Industrial Revolution, is also a must-see. In Huby, watch falcons and hawks soar at the York Bird of Prey Centre. Stroll through the peaceful Royal Water Garden in Ripon or see the amazing planes at the Vulcan Experience in Doncaster. York especially has architecture, museums, man-made masterpieces and plenty of history to see.

Beautiful stay.

Don’t judge a book by its cover…the block where the apartment is situated is very old and grand but in need of a good ‘spruce’ up. However, once you turn the key to the apartment we were amazed! Clean, spacious, modern and airy with no fuss. There were clearly considered choices when decorating the apartment and it all works lovely. Unfortunately there was scaffolding outside so we couldn’t really use the balcony but still got to take in the fantastic views. The beds were lovely and comfortable and all the furniture helped us relax into our mini break. I could go on and on but in short, we would definitely book again and hopefully will.see more
