“Perfect Location for Team Building” A group of 12 work colleagues stayed at the house for a Team Building event in the Lake District. We deceided on a house rather than staying at hotels as it not only allowed us to be together as a group in the evenings but it also worked out at a fraction of the cost of 12 rooms in a hotel for 2 nights. The house itself has many large rooms and whilst there was 12 of us in there, it never seemed cramped or crowded. We could all easily sit in the lounge, but also the upstairs pool room with TV and Sofas was great to get together in the evenings, with amazing views over Morecambe Bay. In addition there were several areas where people who needed to work quietly could do so, without being disturbed by the bigger group. Ross Accomodation were also very flexible with us for arrival and departure times to fit in with peoples early arrivals, but also for us to have a meeting on the last day before we left. With broadband Internet and the Huge dining table, we were as effective as any meeting room in the office! The bedroom accomodation was also excellent, once we found all the rooms tucked around the house. Many of the rooms were ensuite, with steam showers and Jacuzzi baths around the house as well. Outside the gardens were huge with covered areas for the Bar B Que, and also a Table tennis table and a trampoline! We cooked outside both nights we were there even though it was late September, the covered areas giving good shelter. The neighbours were far enough away thet you would not disturb them talking in the garden. Overall an excellent environment for the event, we shall definitely be recommending it to other colleagues to do the same.

“Superb location and accomodation” There was ample space for the family of 5, with all the things you would need for a holiday. Very quiet and peaceful location, which is just what we wanted. We made 3 walks straight from the door. The walk to Hawkshead is mainly off the road with good views of the lake, we made it several times for shopping at the Coop. We especially enjoyed late afternoon and evening games on the terrace. Reversing into the drive is a good test of ones driving skills, you can always park at the park just up the road. The only complaints were from the children, the internet was slow (not the owners fault) and the TVs were "awful"... but who wants internet and TV on holiday :) Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who wants to get away from it all and have peace and quiet.

“Another fantastic holiday” Returning for the 3rd time we had the most fantastic 2 weeks at Moss Eccles Tarn. It really is a home from home, so well equipped and comfortable, you just settle in straight away. Lovely location on the site, great for going off for walks, you really don't have to take the car out, there is so much on the door step. Kids and dogs loved it, and we got to unwind. So many things to do nearby, we still haven't exhausted the area, so will definitely be back!! Thank you Susan for all your help with the booking too!

“Perfect bank holiday getaway” We had six of us staying here over the Easter bank holiday weekend and couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay. The cottage had everything we needed - best of all was the seemingly never ending beautiful garden in which we were able to have a lovely BBQ on our first night. The area itself is also great, Eskdale is a beautiful and quiet corner of the Lake District with spectacular views and plenty of wonderful walking options, while Rose Cottage is situated very close to a very well equipped shop and a couple of lovely-looking pubs (we sadly didn't get to check any of them out on this occasion!). There was a very minor plumbing problem on the day we arrived but Phill the owner was excellent with communication and had this fixed within an hour. Highly recommended!

“The Dairy” Excellent location and accommodation. Really quaint cottage, well equipped - the bedroom is accessed by a ladder through a hatch so you need to be reasonably mobile but great fun. The only criticism would be the water heater timed to come on during the night and waking any light sleepers among us - easily remedied by turning it off and re-timing but other than that it was perfect. Glendenning is a nice quiet base to access lots of activities - we'll be back

“Excellent well appointed and comfortable cottage” Spent four days in Jasmine and not a single negative thing to say. Gift on arrival as well as milk in the fridge. Towels, hair dryer, iron - whatever you can think of - all available. Shed at back to store our bikes. Spotless and the owner had clearly gone 'over and above' with regards to Covid responsibilities. Comfy and spacious. Great location for N.E Lake District - 5 mins from Penrith or M6. Two hundred yards away from a three mile gentle uphill off-road ride or run to Lowther Castle. Parking less than two minutes walk.

“"Perfection!!!"” A truly fantastic cottage, in a superb location. Everything my Girlfriend and I could ask for in a holiday cottage. Village of Lindale is tranquil place with 2 very good pubs to relax, eat and drink in. Of note is the Lindale Inn (2 minute walk from cottage). Rose Cottage is an ideal base if you wish to explore the Lakes. Log fire is a treat to come home to after a good day of activity. Fully recommend Grizdale forest for mountain biking and Go Ape. Cumbrian Coastal Path runs through Lindale with many other public paths routing back to Rose Cottage -OS Map in the cottage - bonus :) Si & Bex - Dunkeswell, Devon

“Wonderful vacation cottage!” What a lovely cottage. The owner was fabulous to work with...from reservations to directions ..she was excellent at communicating with us. The cottage was immaculately clean when we arrived and well furnished. It is located in a nice village and we had no problems finding parking in front of the cottage. The cottage is located on a steep hill and has steep narrow steps so might prevent issues for those with limited mobility or very small children. However, I do have arthritic knees and still found the top floor room and its lovely view worth the climb to sleep up there rather than on the 1st floor. There are no toilets on the ground floor so the stairs are not avoidable. The owner contacted us prior to arrival to ask about gates for the stairs as they can be installed for younger children. I would not hesitate to stay in this cottage again if we return to the area for a holiday.

“Breathtaking!” The boathouse really is unique and special! Myself and my partner spent three nights in the boathouse which really was the best trip we have been on. The view from the windows are breathtaking. The binoculars provided made it even better to see the stunning views of the lake. Upon arrival there were rose petals, chocolates and champagne which were a lovely touch. The boathouse is in a great location - 10 minute drive from Penrith where there are superstores and about 40 minutes from Lake Windermere. The boathouse itself is immaculate and is a home away from home. The amenities are outstanding - there is everything in the boathouse you could need. The DVD selection is also very good! Jayne was extremely helpful and friendly and she went above and beyond with the information she provided before the trip. I highly recommend the boathouse - you will be left with the amazing memories that we are!

“A hidden gem” Despite having to delay our visit to the lakes, arriving at The Halfway House was like entering a magical world of comfort, luxury and at the same time a home from home. From the stunning views at the breakfast table looking out to the hills and the river, to the cosy evenings in front of the roaring inglenook fireplace, this cottage is simply sensational. In fact, we are loathed to write this review because then the secret is out. With a host like Amanda to assist with all of our questions, an ideal location to explore the lakes, and that wonderful feeling of looking forward to getting back at the end of the day to all that awaits, we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay.

The pub on site was lovely and was made to feel very welcome. It's only a short drive to Windermere lake which was ideal as my son loves fishing. “A holiday to remember” We stayed with our large family group .We have a holiday together every year and this year it was our first visit to the area. The accommodation was just what we wanted so comfortable, spacious and everything we needed was there to make our holiday enoyable. We made good use of the barbeque and sitting on the terrace enjoying our evening drinks was very special. The Aga was also a boon breakfasts were more appetising when cooked on it.The house had a lovely atmosphere and it was a pleasure to live there even just for the week that we had booked. There were so many places to visit nearby or far away whichever you wanted to do.We will return and we would like to thank Eric and Helen for there hospitality and also for their unobtrusiveness during our stay. Also to the little boy who lived next door Leo and his sister who came to play with the grandchildren .All in all a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all.Thankyou once again.

“Lovely property in countryside village” The property is well maintained, quiet and set in lovely lawned gardens. Booking the holiday and getting keys was seamless and well organised. Entering the building, there is a stunning hallway and seating area which is very atmospheric, you just want to curl up on the window seat and read or admire the grounds. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the kitchen extremely well equipped. A pint of milk in the fridge and a packet of biscuits was a nice welcoming touch. The weather was too good to use the fire in the sitting room but the wooden panellling and library of books and cd's gave a cosy feel to the room. We loved the "secret door" and the view over the front gardens.

“Great location Great apartment Lovely hosts.” Great location close to the centre of Ambleside, easy walking distance to shops restaurants pubs etc! Private parking off road in front of property is free! Great apartment set over 2 floors, 1st and 2nd. 1st floor accessed by stairs comprises of large lounge/dining area, with comfy sofa and chairs, small dining table and chairs, DTV with dvd, shelves with a library of books, dvd's and games, plus information leaflets.Large modern kitchen fully equipped with hob, oven, dishwasher washing machine/dryer and microwave plus all pots pans cutlery and utensils. Bathroom with full length bath with shower over plus toilet and basin (vanity mirror) and heated towel rail. Space under stairs to hang coats stor shoes etc. 2nd floor accessed by stairs comprises large bedroom with king bed (very comfy),side tables, chest of drawers and wardrobe, plus ensuite toilet and basin area leading off! This room is a dormer, so ceiling is slanted (watch your head) The whole place was spotlessly clean, heating if required was easily controlled from thermostat in lounge. Hot water was plentiful and on demand after a very short delay!! There are views of the hills from some windows, just a lovely place to stay! We were greeted initially by Michael a very pleasant man who guided us thru the facilities, and later met David also very pleasant, who seemed most concerned that we didnt get cold during our stay. They live on the lower floor of the building and are readily available to assist in any enquiries, however, they were inobtrusive during our stay and although we met in passing and chatted, we were not disturbed in any way. We would highly recommend this apartment to any other couples

“Amazing experience to stay in an outstanding and unique piece of heritage!” My husband and I were truly delighted to experience such a wonderful few days away due to the outstanding high quality of the signal box facilities, its peaceful surroundings and customer service from the owners. The location is quiet, surrounded by woods and yet enables easy access to explore the countryside and villages of Cumbria and the Lake district. The exquisite signal box made a welcome retreat from busy lives and the fire, views and nearby chickens and ducks was wonderful! Visiting in February the log fire made it cosy and warm. I cannot rate this place highly enough. Gavin and Wendy are helpful and ensure you have all you need for a perfect stay.

Barn letting in Troutbeck

Troutbeck barn

  • 3 bedrooms
  • 2 bathrooms
  • sleeps 6

“Ideal little retreat for exploring the lakes” I booked the barn for myself, my wife, my 5 year old and 6 month old, along with 2 dogs and another family due to its relative remoteness but also due to it's beautiful surroundings. 3 bedrooms were more than enough for 4 adults, 3 kids and 3 dogs! The accommodation has everything you could need for a short or even longer break and the home was immaculate when we arrived. Dish washer, washing machine; it's all there. The best point of the property is the upstairs living room/ kitchen/ diner; a great space for eating and socializing and a very comfortable sofa. There is a pub about 15 minutes walk away (the sportsmans inn) and although the new owner Chris is not selling hot food, drinks are aplenty and he plans to offer hot food soon. Driving to Keswick takes around 15 minutes and even less to Penrith. We found a great pub called the boot and shoe inn in a look local village, Greystoke; great food and service. The only downside I found was the upside down configuration but that was mainly down to having a 3 and 5 year old running around at 6am! If you don't have little ones then that shouldn't bother you too much. Be wary of the owner of the house across from the barn. Very argumentative when we couldn't get parked on the grass one evening so had to park outside his house. I explained we had 2 young children but he wasnt having it. I continued to park there out of spite from that point! Overall a fantastic holiday accommodation set in idyllic surroundings and we will be back. Thanks again Katie.

Cumbria holidays

If you're looking to experience the most magnificent natural scenery England has to offer, you can't go wrong with the Lake District. Book a rural retreat, like a charming cottage or log cabin, to really make the most of your time in this spectacular landscape.

Breathtaking natural beauty

The Lake District's lush fells and valleys are scattered with small villages; charming clusters of cottages in a landscape that hasn't changed in centuries. Why not choose a cosy cottage in one of these quiet rural communities as your base? Or a secluded log cabin to put you right in the heart of the area's natural beauty?

Explore the 16 lakes, meres and tarns scattered across the county and you'll see cottages nestled on the shore with unparalleled views over the water. But if you prefer the atmosphere and amenities of a market town, you're still spoilt for choice with picturesque options like Keswick, Ambleside and Penrith.

Things to do in the Lake District

If you're seeking the classic Lake District experience, head to Lake Windermere. Here, you can take a boat trip on the water while marvelling at the magnificent peaks surrounding you. There are plenty of holiday homes dotted along the shore in pretty spots such as Bowness-on-Windermere.

Nearby Ullswater doesn't disappoint, either, with plenty of pebbled bays along the lakeside to stop for a picnic and skim some stones across the water. While you're there, don't miss the spectacular waterfalls of Aira Force; with ample parking and a variety of walks, it's the perfect place for a family trip.

Speaking of family trips, one of the most popular attractions is The World of Beatrix Potter. This centre celebrates Peter Rabbit author Beatrix Potter and all the work she did to preserve the land and livelihood of the Lake District.

Inspiration

With its inspiring scenery, wealth of activities and relaxed pace of life, the Lake District is a fabulous staycation destination for families. Renting a cottage or log cabin gives you all the flexibility and space of your own home and sets you up perfectly to enjoy England's most picturesque landscape.

Why Cumbria?

Are you up for an outdoor adventure? Booking your holiday rental in Cumbria gives you the chance to make the most out of the rolling hills, stunning scenery and tranquil lakes. Pick yours today before they all go!

About Cumbria

On the northernmost point of England, Cumbria is one of the largest counties in the country. However, you won't find many built up areas here. Most of the landscape has been left untouched by developers and builders, and lets nature flourish within its borders.

With such an abundance of nature and peacefulness, it's no surprise that lots of artists and authors have come here to try their craft. William Wordsworth, John Ruskin, Beatrix Potter and Ken Russell were all inspired by this magnificent area.

What to do

For something a little different, try the Predator Experience in Cartmel. Choose the creature or creatures you want to interact with and spend a day learning about them. There are bird of prey falconry days, reptile and mammal experiences and you can even go walking with wolves!

There are several waterfalls throughout this part of the Lake District, so why not climb up and see one? Aira Force in Penrith is spectacular.

Top Cumbria travel tips

Come to a holiday rental in Cumbria and embrace the great outdoors! You'll never have another trip like it.

Beautiful views

Great house in perfect location for Scafell Pike. Wast Water is also a must see beautiful lake and less busy than the well known ones. The garden was perfect for the dog as completely enclosed and the views were amazing. House well equipped, clean, comfortable beds and big enough for all 5 of us. The one thing it lacked was a washing line so we were forced to use the tumble dryer which would be great in winter but we were lucky enough to have beautiful sunny days so a waste of electricity. Fantastic stay

We (4 adults and 2 kids) had a fantastic stay at the wheelhouse. It was really comfortable- a home away from home. Nice decorated, and really well equipped- I can’t think of anything it was lacking. Staveley itself is a fantastic wee town that has loads to do itself- it has a brilliant brewery/ pub/ cafes/ bakery gelato shop. It close enough to Windermere, Ambleside, and Kendal, but isolated enough that it doesn’t feel too busy- lots of walking routes and we’ll served by public transport. We will definitely be back, and we will be staying at the wheelhouse!see more

Excellent Host with lively Holiday Home

Val was a wonderful host. We communicated a lot as we modified our trip and Val was kind, patient and very responsive. The flat was clean and well stocked. The main living and kitchen is on the second floor and sleeping rooms and toilets are on the first and third floors, so there are stairs to maneuver regularly in case you have bad knees or hips. Tranquil stay in Eskdale

Our short break as a family was ideal. Rose Cottage is located in a peaceful small village with stunning views of the mountains. A handy post office come shop had all the essentials and two local pubs were within walking distance and had tasty meals suitable for the whole family. The cottage itself was clean, well equipped and had a huge dining kitchen. Interiors were lovely and in keeping with the cottage style. We visited the nearby waterfalls and took a trip on the miniature railway. The welcome pack provided was very generous and all the necessities were provided for cleaning/cooking.see more
