“Ideal little retreat for exploring the lakes” I booked the barn for myself, my wife, my 5 year old and 6 month old, along with 2 dogs and another family due to its relative remoteness but also due to it's beautiful surroundings. 3 bedrooms were more than enough for 4 adults, 3 kids and 3 dogs!
The accommodation has everything you could need for a short or even longer break and the home was immaculate when we arrived. Dish washer, washing machine; it's all there.
The best point of the property is the upstairs living room/ kitchen/ diner; a great space for eating and socializing and a very comfortable sofa.
There is a pub about 15 minutes walk away (the sportsmans inn) and although the new owner Chris is not selling hot food, drinks are aplenty and he plans to offer hot food soon.
Driving to Keswick takes around 15 minutes and even less to Penrith. We found a great pub called the boot and shoe inn in a look local village, Greystoke; great food and service.
The only downside I found was the upside down configuration but that was mainly down to having a 3 and 5 year old running around at 6am! If you don't have little ones then that shouldn't bother you too much.
Be wary of the owner of the house across from the barn. Very argumentative when we couldn't get parked on the grass one evening so had to park outside his house. I explained we had 2 young children but he wasnt having it. I continued to park there out of spite from that point!
Overall a fantastic holiday accommodation set in idyllic surroundings and we will be back.
Thanks again Katie.
“Lovely comfortable relaxing home in beautiful area” Appleby is a lovely little town surrounded be beautiful countryside. Great walks from the property which was a very nice place to spend time - large sitting room with wood burning stove and great views. It was the ideal spot for a family get-together and Carole was very helpful and had left treats for us on out arrival. Wish we could have stayed longer.
“What a magical place” What a magical place! We had no idea such a lovely place could be found so close to Ulverston, even though we've been there so many times..
So we had a great break, seeing family, drove Kirkstone Pass (not to be missed) and the steamer down Windermere but the highlight was generally chilling out in absolutely beautiful surroundings, inside and outside.
The cottage is really super - obviously a lot of love has gone into the whole site. We hope Emma and Graham have great success for many years to come and of course we'll be recommending you to all our friends.
