“Excellent accommodation in an Idyllic location.” We were looking for somewhere to go for a short stay. Our usual trips involve camping but because of the time of year (and good old British weather!) decided to try something different. Myself and partner were not disappointed! .. We booked at very short notice and Elaine & Ed were very accommodating, letting us stay at Snowdon Lodge with our 2 small well behaved dogs. The lodge has everything you would need for a comfortable stay, with a twin room and double room (inc en-suite) .. also a separate shower/wc room.. well equip kitchen with gas cooker and oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave, kettle, toaster... literally everything! .. the living area was bright, modern, centrally heated and open plan (with patio doors leading outside to a large decking area) There is a dining suite and 2 sofas (one of which is a bed-settee so room for 6+ with a travel cot provided if needed) .. Tv, Dvd player... Freeview (weather permitting) But, who needs Tv when there are 26 miles of forest walks less than a mile up the road! (we did one of these with the dogs and it was magical!!, even in the rain (pack waterproofs problem solved!) Just down the road, is the pretty little village of Beddgelert with pubs etc and a 7 mile drive to Porthmadog will take you to the closest supermarket (Tesco) .. The owners also provided a selection of brochures for activities in and around the area. Snowdon Lodge is set on the banks of Afon Colwyn, simply beautiful!! We would highly recommend a visit and stay at these lovely lodges (Snowdon sleeps 6+ Colwyn sleeps 2) Don't delay in booking, as it won't be long before the secret of this place is well and truly out! We will certainly be back!

“Lovely, peaceful, relaxing break.” Just stayed here with my husband, two young children and our pup for 3 nights. Hosts very accommodating and welcoming. The property was very clean and tidy. It was our first family holiday and we wanted somewhere peaceful and relaxing, but still close to the forest. This was perfect. It was lovely sitting down outside of an evening looking up at the stars! Our 2 children loved the 2 donkeys in the garden!! Thankyou very much, look forward to coming back again soon. Claire x

“Excellent break in a five star lodge” Fabulous lodge, every need catered for. Perfect for a family with young children. Weather was perfect and we had a great time using the hot tub. The owners are really nice people and will do everything to make your stay comfortable. The hot tub was serviced every day to make sure it was kept clean and safe. The site was clean and well looked after. I would certainly recommend the lodge to everyone and hopefully we will be back again soon.

“Perfect in every way!” We stayed in serin lodge for a midweek short stay in February. The whole experience from booking to checking out was perfect. The property is managed by Ray and his wife, who both live on site and are only a call away should you need anything. The property itself is very well equipped with touches of luxury to make the stay more enjoyable. There are a variety of books, dvds, cd's, games, puzzles etc for guests to use. The hot tub was amazing, over looking the very tranquil duck lake. The positioning of the lodge around the lake allows for privacy making sitting on the deck extremely peaceful. I spent most afternoons sat wrapped in a blanket reading on the deck whilst my husband was fishing just feet away. We did all our food shopping at the local co-op which is very well stocked, and the kids loved the local sweet shop! We will definitely be returning to this little haven.

“We found Forbestown Lodge to be remarkably tranquil and energising ~ the perfect place to stay for us and the dog.” Forbestown Lodge is a log cabin at Bellabeg, home of the famous Lonach Games which take place on the 4th Saturday of every August. It's set back from the road and is very welcoming and tranquil. Everything was spotless and we found nothing lacking in terms of equipment etc. The owner popped by to say hello, but was unobtrusive - we knew he was there if needed. There are some lovely woodland walks up the hill behind the cabin with plenty of wildlife to see and hear - deer barking, birds and red squirrels, for example. Some of the tracks are particularly flower rich. There is a small, but well stocked village shop just down the road. As well as being picturesque in itself, the Strathdon area is handy for heading off in all directions - other parts of Donside, over the Lecht towards Tomintoul, into Aberdeen, or over the hills to Deeside. The scenery is spectacular, although a little more native tree cover on the slopes would be lovely. Likewise there are plenty of places to walk, see the wildlife or visit the fascinating historical and archaeological sites strewn around the area. The Doune of Invernochty is an intriguing motte structure within Bellabeg itself. There are many castles in the area, not to mention Pictish standing stones (eg Migvie Kirkyard has a wonderful horse and rider among the symbols carved on the stone) and recumbent stone circles (eg. Tomnaverie near Tarland). It is also a good place to stay if you are keen on fishing. There are so many lovely places to visit, it is difficult to pick any more out. However, I would recommend visiting The Knock Gallery by Crathie where you will find beautiful and unusual silver and amber jewellery along with paintings by Scottish and Eastern European artists. The road over the hill to get there involves the hump-backed Gairnshiel Bridge, part of the old Military Road to Braemar, and the most spectacular view of Lochnagar which suddenly reveals itself as you begin the descent into Deeside. We enjoyed our stay very much and plan to return soon. It was good to be able to take our dog with us who we kept on the lead / under close to avoid any chasing of the wildlife on the doorstep.
