“Spotlessly clean and contemporary, in a great location for visiting the South West.” We are a family of four, with 10 and 12 year old children. The property had everything we needed, and was beautifully warm. Although the cottage has a small footprint, the rooms have been carefully arranged and we didn't feel cramped. One small drawback if you're infirm is that any carparking is some way from the cottage, and it's pretty hilly! The stunning views go quite some way to redeeming that small issue. Fabulous kitchen, and very comfortable beds. A good stay, and recommended.

“Stunning home from home - can't wait to go back!” Perfect base for a weekend (or preferably longer!) surrounded by beautiful scenery and a very good range of outdoor activities nearby including a variety of good walks straight from the cottage. The accommodation was a modern, cosy, wonderfully converted barn made all the better by friendly hosts and Jac the dog. We will certainly be returning!

“Wonderful Location.” Absolutely perfect is the only way to describe our stay. After an idyllic week we really didn't want to leave. The owners, Maurice and Anne were so friendly we felt as though we'd knon them for years . The situation looking over Talkin Tarn and the surrounding countryside is utterly beautiful.the bird life superb, the free range eggs delicious and to cap it all we had the joy of watching the race horses out training or in their nearby boxes. The lodge itself had everything one might need for a comfortable stay: well equipped (with bonus of a dishwasher), comfortable bed with quality bed linen and excellent shower. We would have liked to enjoy the wood burning stove but the weather was too hot! I haven't enough superlatives to describe our stay at Tarnside Lodge. Thank you Maurice and Anne.

“Lovely settng” I stayed at Lilac cottage with my husband and 88 year old Mother. We all found the cottage to be very comfortable, clean and was in a great position for visiting the attractions of the area. The cottage was well equiped with the exception of a few things....hence the four stars. First there were no instuctions on things like the recycling, bin day etc., hence we had to quess about which bin to recle rubbish. Second, a hair dryer would have been nice and lastley bedside tables with lamps would also have been useful. But all in all we had a lovely time.Sitting outside having breakfast looking at the wildlife and the beautiful setting and then in the evening a late night glass of wine was delightful. We all agree that we would love to visit the cottage again.

“Perfect romantic retreat” Beautifully appointed bijou, everything you could ask including views of the stars. Totally comfortable with top quality finish throughout. Gorgeous bath, bed, wood burner and a fitted kitchen with everything!... how did they do that? We had the best romantic treat weekend, having travelled Europe extensively, this was a delight and the location is superb for all pursuits. Dont miss this...top quality.

“Simply the best” Superb location. Excellent house with great views. Ideal for all ages. Sara couldn't have any more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and she went out of her way to make you feel welcome. Shop along the road and only 10 minutes from Ramsey. Would definitely stay here again.

“Gorgeous Location, Amazing Hosts” We booked a week at Cavendish Cottage with the intention of taking our son to Alton Towers to celebrate his birthday and to explore the gorgeous surrounding countryside and attractions. The cottage was lovely, and very recently finished so everything was essentially brand new. The kitchen was great and well-equipped, although families note there is only a teeny freezer section in the fridge, so not really possible to stock up as such. The quality of the fixtures and fittings was excellent and the owners have done an amazing job on the finish. The beds were comfortable, although we didn't use the duvets as we took our own as we always find cottage ones far too heavy. The bathrooms were well finished and it was nice to have an en-suite each. Overall, we had a good stay but for us there were pros and cons: Pros - The owners. They are lovely, warm, friendly people both of whom were very happy to help as needed and took time to take care of any little issues. they were also very happy to look after our dog on two occasions whilst we made visits that weren't going to work with the dog. They charged a fair rate for this and our dog had a wonderful time. They also gave us some good advice on where to eat, where to visit and where to walk with the dog. The cottage finish. It is very nicely finished and the kitchen was great. Location. Close by to Matlock, a town in which we spent a lot of time. Lots of dog-friendly cafes, a superb park and some great shops. We even came home with a carload of beautiful antiques. Would highly recommend. Cons: Privacy. We felt the cottage lacked the privacy we prefer as all of the downstairs doors face the drive to the owners cars, so there was no wandering around in your undies if that's your thing! We were also unable to secure the doors open on the warm days so had to used logs to prop them open. Dryer. the property lacks a tumble drier which in itself isn't a massive issue, but if you're here with a family and need to keep on top of dirty clothes etc it's nigh on impossible to get them dry. There's an airer, but no radiators, and you can't drape things on the heated floor (!) and we found it really tricky to get stuff dry. We would recommend Marsh Hill Farm at the bottom of the lane for breakfast. Dog-friendly (ie. you can take them inside), super friendly, great local produce and served with a smile. We also ate a Stones in Matlock, which was delicious and very well priced. We also enjoyed the walk down to the river with the dog, but wear long trousers! In the summer, stinging nettle-tastic. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and will 100% return to the area - it's a beautiful part of the world, although I think we would look for a property with a little more privacy.

“Luxurious Modern 5 Star Experience see within Historic Grounds” From the moment you arrive at the impressive entrance you know you are going to enjoy your stay. You enter the pin code and the security gates open to allow you into the expansive gardens of The Old Rectory with its beautiful lawns, flower beds, waterfall with stream and pond. The accommodation as far better than described and was most luxurious with a very high end fit out. The welcome pack was simply amazing with locally sourced produce and treats. The best we have ever seen in our extensive travels. We explored with great interest, the historic area behind the Cwtch. Particularly the old church on site and we would have loved to attend the service had we still been there. We visited several of the local towns and thought how lucky we had been to pick this place to stay as there was so much to do in the close proximity. This has been a wonderfull experience and will remain as one of our highlights of our UK adventure.
