Forge Cottage is a 200 year old stone former Forge situated in the centre of the lovely village of Chinley, on the edge of the Peak District National Park and has all the amenities for a great break on the doorstep. The property is a two minute walk from Chinley train station (Manchester – Sheffield line), a 20 minute walk to Chapel-en-le-Frith Station (Stockport – Manchester – Manchester Airport line).
Within the village is a village store, post office, tea rooms, newsagent, butcher, chemist, deli, Indian restaurant (BYO), English fish and chip shop, launderette and “dog friendly” pubs within 3 minutes walking distance of the property. Chapel-en- le- Frith is 2 minutes drive away with Morrisons & Aldi stores and a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs. Whaley Bridge is a 5 minute drive with a Tesco and again shops, pubs and restaurants. Manchester and Stockport are a 25 minute drive away or a 30 minute direct train journey. Accommodation - Sleeps 10/12. A spacious five bedroomed house situated on a quiet lane with no through traffic in the heart of the village. Accommodation comprises large lounge/dining room to accommodate 10 people with large TV + Sky, sitting room (with double bed settee and TV) , large hallway (which could accommodate cycles) with open tread staircase, fully equipped dining kitchen with dishwasher, 2 fridges, range cooker, microwave, freezer,dining table, chairs and breakfast bar (and high chair). There is a utility room with a double sink, washer and tumble dryer. 5 double bedrooms – 2 king size (1 king with en-suite roll top bath and balcony), 1 double bedded room and 2 rooms each with 2 twin beds. Family bathroom with bath and separate shower. Gas central heating. Oak flooring to most of the property. There is space for one car outside the property but plenty of parking just a few steps away in the village. There is no garden with the property but the beautiful village green is next door and there are walks on the doorstep, the local nature reserve being 2 minutes away.
Pets are welcome by arrangement with the owners. There are fantastic walks from the house to with “dog friendly” pubs. Most of the pubs in the area welcome well behaved dogs. The closest (and most beautiful) is The Old Hall and The Papermill pubs in the hamlet of Whitehough (3 minutes walk), beautiful old buildings which serve fantastic food & beer and good wines with a gorgeous walled beer garden. A little further on (20 minutes) easy walk along the old tram lines and canal is the Navigation in the historic Bugsworth Basin and this walk continues along the to Marple and Marple Bridge. The beautiful village of Hayfield is nearby and the old spa town of Buxton with its spectacular Opera House is a 10 minute drive (or 5 minute train journey) away.
A walkers and cyclists paradise - there are fantastic walks and cycle trails from the doorstep and being in the Peak district and within 5 minutes drive of Kinder Scout National Nature reserve, close to Edale, Castleton and Hope Valley is an ideal base for walkers, cyclists and climbers.
There is a beautiful 18 hole golf course with magnificient views over Combs Reservoir at Chapel en le Frith, a 3 minute drive away. Nearby attractions include Chatsworth House & Estate, Castleton – Blue John Mines and underground caverns by boat, the famous Bakewell, Ladybarn Reservoir, Buxton Pavillion Gardens and Opera House. Children will love the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath, The Chestnut Otter & Owl Centre in Chapel en le Frith and the Tissington and Monsall trails which are easy, flat cycle paths (cycles can be hired at the trails) along old railway tracks.
