Location description from owner

The England region

Cornwall benefits from the warm waters of the Gulf Stream (from the Gulf of Mexico) providing a warmer climate than many parts of the UK, (palm trees are common throughout Cornwall!). Cornwall is also the most southerly county in the UK. with the largest coast-line of any county in England.Fowey is on the South Coast of Cornwall, on the English Channel where sailing, kayaking and many other water sports are popular, only 20 miles away is the North Coast on the Atlantic, where the big breakers provide a surfers paradise.River Views is only 6 miles from the world renowned Eden Project. There is much to do in the area - the magnificent Lanhydrock House (National Trust) is only 7 miles away and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are 15 miles away. Antony House where the 2010 Alice in Wonderland was filmed is 24 miles away. Padstow, Falmouth and St. Ives are within easy reach for a day out, if you fancy exploring further afield.

Fowey

Fowey offers some very special events including the Daphne Du Maurier festival in May, Fowey Royal Regatta Week in August and the Christmas Market in December. Fowey has attracted many artistic types over the years from Daphne Du Maurier and Kenneth Grahame, who drew inspiration from the River Fowey for Wind in the Willows, (see the events guide below for 'Wind in the WIllows' river trips) to our more recent stars of TV & stage! The largest beach in Fowey is Readymoney Cove, with a summer swimming raft it's great fun for all the family. Whitehouse beach disappears completely at high tide, but is a little quieter than Readymoney, with a children's paddling pool in the summer months. A short drive (or 3 mile walk) is Polkerris Beach, voted #1 beach in Cornwall, (check out the guide in the apartment for 'hidden beaches'). Crabbing and rock pooling are always great fun too! There are some fine walks in the area that take in the fantastic views around the Cornish coast line. We like to take the car ferry to Bodinnick then walk along Hall walk to Polruan further down the river returning to Fowey by passenger Ferry. The Fowey to Mevagissey ferry runs from May through September and offers a really good day out, either to Mevagissey or via Mevagissey to Heligan Gardens, along with the fast, fun and scenic 35 minute boat ride. The trip is across open sea - so can be weather dependent - and provides an opportunity, if you are lucky, to see dolphins, basking sharks and diving gannetsBoats and kayaks are available for hire in Fowey harbour in the summer months.
