Rosebank Cottage
The Cosy Little Cottage

Getting There: The cottage is in a very quiet area, depending where you set off from determines your drive, however, when you come off the Lindale Bypass you are very close to the cottage. Surprisingly easy to get to. About the Owner: Communication was adequate prior to the arranged trip, with details passed on early. One week before coming to the cottage I got an email with a pdf document with instructions on how to use some equipment and what was expected of us whilst we were there. Unfortunately there appeared to be a mix up with the key safe combination and on arrival I had to contact the owner who seemed to have been caught at a bad time and was little abrupt on the phone. She dd give us the code and an email the day after with a document with the code on it. About The Cottage: Once we got the code for the key safe we followed the instructions, you have to walk to Cottage Number 1 and a little past it there is a small entrance which leads to the rear of the properties, the Cottages don't have numbers on the rear so you have to look for the only cottage on the row to have the safe on the wall next to the back door. This passage way is not Disabled friendly. The steep incline via steps can be seen clearly seen from the back door. Upon acquiring the key to the front door, we made our way back down the narrow passage, and back onto the front and gained entry and this is why there are only 4 stars. I had been told prior to the date to arrive at 16:00 to allow the cleaners to have come and tidied the property, I would recommend the owner to find a better cleaner. Living Room: You enter the cottage via main door and inner door, the room is carpeted with a two-seater couch directly in front of you, there appeared to be small pebbles on the floor near the couch, directly right you can see the wood burning stove and the entertainment unit. You are greeted with a small tv as someone as previously mentioned, a DVD player, and a CD player with some media for the two devices. The WIFI password is easily found taped to the unit and beneath the router, you get a 3mbps line which is ideal for using basic browsing and some streaming. Kitchen: The kitchen is open plan with the living room with a breakfast bar style divider and under the stair is a storage area, used mainly for stuff for the owner. The Kitchen has a Gas cooker with the cooker instructions found in the draws adjacent the window, this Is followed by a fridge that needed turning on (maybe cleaner could have done this) and is a recommendation to owner as the freezer compartment was like a swimming pool. There is a microwave and kettle and ample storage for any tinned stuff. Bathroom: The bathroom is of a large size, surprisingly for a one-bedroom cottage, with the shower above the taps in the bath tub, the towels on display were dumped over the glass divider and the towel rack, again it appeared that pre-visit cleaning had been done to a poor standard as there was still hair left in the bath from the previous occupant. Bedroom: This is the main bug bear for me and my partner. The size is great, easily accommodates two people and the storage facilities are plentiful the curtains help to keep the room shaded, however, had the cottage had been pre-visit ready we would not have come to a bed where the sheets had been dumped in a heap, after finding which sheets and covers were for the double bed and separating them, we found the bottom sheet had stains and hairs on it, that was quickly removed and placed in the cleaning basket. After that we thoroughly shook the rest of the covers before making the bed ourselves. The side units had a layer of dust and so to the bed frame, we managed to find a microfiber cloth and dampen it to remove the dust that would be potentially sleeping next to us. The Charm: The layout of the cottage is great, the place is cosy and very habitable, the area is very quiet, the first night sleep was amazing, there are no street lights glaring through the window, and even though you are close to the M6 and the Lindale Bypass you can’t hear a thing. There must be an RAF base somewhere near here though as we have heard a few fighter jets going over. Be warned there is little to no mobile signal in the cottage, you have to amble over to the car park across the street. Also spiders seemed to appear out of nowhere, during our stay we must have hoovered and dispatched at least 20 of the them of various sizes.see more
