“A great place to stay!” We only stayed one night, as we popped over to the island, but we had a lovely time. The accommodation was perfect - well situated, warm and comfortable. The beds were particularly good and we were made to feel very much at home. The house is very well equipped and was extremely clean. We'll certainly be back, but this time, for longer!

“Location, location, location” Nice house in picturesque village - we had a good few days and as it was the beginning of the Easter break we were able to enjoy it quietly - would imagine it is different at peak times. You park at the top of the village and wander down to the house although you can drive down to unload etc. Cod & Lobster pub highly recommended- gluten free possible too! House simple but clean and good layout. Make sure to visit Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Saltburn, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby.

“Brilliant Family Holiday” We have a brilliant summer holiday. The cottage was in a fantastic location, short walk to the beach, lovely views over the harbour and short stroll to shops, cafes and pubs. “Lovely Stay” Stayed here from 31st March for a long weekend with our daughter and in laws, as she'd asked to 'go to the seaside' for her 7th Birthday. The booking was quick n easy and Kim kindly upgraded us to the cottage with an extra single bed and balcony, which was a bonus. The cottage & all within was spacious & warm and perfectly suited our needs. It had a good fridge, freezer, cooker, oven, grill, toaster and dishwasher which we used mainly for breakfasts as we ate out each day. Thankfully & despite conflicting forecasts the weather was fantastic, so we spent a lot of time on the beach dicing with the waves, building stone towers and strolling about. The beach where the waves break drops away steeply, so it's not ideal if you want to paddle or swim with children, but there are more suitable beaches for that nearby. The 5-10min walk down a steady slope to the beach to the left (facing the sea) was preferable to descending the steps down from the site, as there was some ground water on the steps, but we still used them a few times without issue. We made good use of the washer dryer too after numerous soakings at the seashore. Likewise, the 10-15m stroll along to Hive Beach was lovely and more so as we'd already had the pleasure of savouring the seafood delights of the Hive Beach Cafe in previous years, so knew what was awaiting us :) The hills and beach were good for kite flying too. The location was quiet and peaceful, which suited us as we were there for the sea, view, strolling, seafood etc, although we'd seen that other activities were available within a short drive. It was great for visits to Bridport, West Bay & Lyme Regis which we managed to visit during our Fri-Mon stay. We met Kim who was very nice and knowledgable of the area. Overall it was a very relaxed and pleasant stay and we look forward to returning another time. Thank you.

“peace peace perfect peace” After 10 years of visiting Wistaria the efficient and friendly service has never varied. In the cottage with its excellant facilities and all three bedrooms ensuite (which is very rare) and more than adequate kitchen one can feel at home. A country location witha facinating coast line yet within easy reach of numerous visitor centres. The thing we liked best is knowing what we are going to find upon arrival,the thing we liked least is leaving. We as a group of golden oldies have been visiting for 10 years,11 visits, I think this in its self says an awful lot about wistaria

“Utterly wonderful pampering” I had the most relaxing and refreshing 2 days in a most beautiful tranquil setting at Downe Helth Spa in Hartland North Devon. In the midst of the noise of the World Cup, I gave myself a pamper treat. The spa facilites are just perfect and I had an entire day of blissful treatments. “A relaxing vacation in a stunning area.” My mother needed some well deserved time away from the hustle and bustle of city life and Downe Health Spa & Cottages was perfect for this. She took me along with her for four days of pampering and relaxation. Right from when we arrived, we were well catered for by Jeremy and Linda, who were friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. There is varied selection of treatments to choose from and you are guaranteed to feel well pampered at the end of them. My mother particularly enjoyed the steam room, which she stated was "divine". The cottage in which we stayed, Japonica, was clean, neat and furnished to a high standard, as well as surprisingly well stocked. Digital tv is available, but my mother and I were too busy taking long walks around the area and soaking in the beautiful scenery to watch tv! Overall, the experience was a thoroughly enjoyable and peaceful one. If you are looking for break away from your busy life, or just a short vacation in a scenic, rural location by the sea, Downe is the place for you. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude towards Jeremy and Linda, who made our arrival and departure hassle free by picking us from and dropping us back at the station, as we came by train.

“High quality off-the-beaten track self catering accomodation.” Hartland is a remote and unspoilt corner of England, with excellent coastal walks. If a day of sea vistas and cliff top walking appeals to you this is a perfect area in which to take a break. If perfectly presented and comprehensively equipped cottages with wood burning stoves and HD television suit you, then I recommend Downes Cottages. Jeremy and Lynda Roe have painstakingly restored a series of traditional farm buildings and incorporated high quality conversions. The cottages include fully equipped kitchens, allowing total independence if desired. Jeremy and Lynda also offer a pre-booked meal service using fresh local ingredients for your convenience. We did not sample the food or the extensively equipped spa during our 4 days stay, instead we entertained our 4 year old with seaside visits and country walks. A very peaceful place to unwind and relax.
