Milk Maid's Cottage is a lovely 2 bedroom former dairy adjacent to the owners' 18th Century farmhouse, with exposed stonework and lots of interesting nooks and features. Situated at the top of the attractive grey stone village of Kniveton, the cottage is fully equipped with everything the holidaymaker could want.

With a barbecue and outside seating area, the cottage has shared use of the owners' spacious gardens, which contain fruit trees and seating as well as a pretty stream with wooden bridge over.

The local pub The Red Lion is within walking distance and serves good, home-cooked food.

The charming little church is next door, famous for its tower and font, both dating back to the 13th Century.

Miles of public footpaths cross the rolling fields all around, and there are many walks starting from the front door.

Carsington Water is just up the road, with its visitors centre, miles of footpaths and children's play area to explore. Beautiful Dovedale, famous for its stepping stones, and Black Rocks Country Park are a short drive away.

Not forgetting the UK's premier theme park, Alton Towers which is 20 miles away.

Our favourite places to visit include antique shopping in Matlock and Wirksworth; ascending to the Heights of Abraham by cable car in the old Victorian spa town of Matlock Bath; and cycling the path of the old Ashbourne to Buxton railway line along the Tissington Trail.

The cottage itself has one double bedroom and one twin, a well-appointed kitchen diner and comfortable living area with a selection of books, games and DVDs. Fresh bread, home-made biscuits and other provisions are provided for guests on arrival.

Ample private parking, including secure garaging on request, make this an ideal holiday choice.

The Heart of England/Peak District

Derbyshire is a hidden gem of a destination. Very popular but never overrun with holiday makers. The region offers a host of towns with independent shops, arts and crafts, cultural festivals, quality antique and vintage emporiums.

Local attractions include the Heights of Abraham at Matlock Baths, the majestic gritstone crags of Black Rocks and the antique centres of Matlock and Belper.

Rolling hills offer fantastic walking and climbing. Sailing, canoeing, pony trekking and bike hire are all readily available for the novice through to those with more experience. Golf courses are dotted around the region offering a warm welcome to visitors .

Stately homes such as Chatsworth, gardens and places of outstanding beauty are all within easy reach of the cottage. Farmer's markets, vintage fairs, tram museums, steam railways, bijou independent cinemas - there truly is something for everyone .

Premiership and Championship football are both available in the area. Rugby, County Championship cricket and the new velodrome in Derby offer lots of options for the sports fan.

Great pubs and restaurants in both the towns and the country villages offer a great choice for couples and families alike.

Kniveton is three miles from the charming market town of Ashbourne which has a wide range of independent shops and pubs; supermarkets, antique centres and a leisure centre.

Close to Dovedale with its famous stepping stones; local towns include Wirksworth, Matlock, Buxton and Bakewell which all offer great days out.

Carsington Water is less than two miles away for sailing, windsurfing and cycle hire. Go karting, Quad bikes, Para gliding, golf, pony trekking and climbing are all within easy reach .

Antique and vintage shops are very much part of the area and offer great value to the discerning shopper. Never pushy, the owners are knowledgable and offer excellent service .

Walking in unspoilt areas with stunning views is very much part of a Derbyshire holiday . Delicious food with a large selection of local ales all add to the country atmosphere .
