“exceptional quality and care, idylic little piece of heaven.” Where do I start, so much to say. The cottage is in a village but you could believe you were in the middle of no where. Very restful and peaceful setting, a little bit of heaven. Exceptionally clean and Sandie had catered for your every need and very kindly stocked the fridge, provided bread and biscuits and if that wasn't enough also wine and chocolates. None of this was expected but very well received, leaving us feeling quite humbled. The bed was wonderfully comfortable a struggle to get out of I promise you, the place was kept lovely and cosily warm and oodles of hot water too. The Hot Tub being my husbands favourite lovely and warm (almost hot for me) absolutely brilliant at relaxing you before you curled up in front on the tv and had supper. Excellent amenities in the village no need to drive out if you did not wish too. Exceptional.....thankyou for allowing us to stay.

“Wonderful accommodation, ideally situated.” The Mill was a warm and comfortable cottage, with Nick and Sarah close by and always ready to help and advise. Lurcombe is an excellent location, both in terms of its nearness to the stunning south- eastern side of the moor, and also its proximity to the A38. We walked every day of our week-long stay, on the moors and in the wooded valleys, and were bowled away by the breathtaking views and autumn colours. The dogs always gave us an enthusiastic welcome on our return home each evening! We can't wait to return!

“An excellent place to stay in a stunning surrounding” We have stayed in The Hardknott Cottage for two weeks in June 2011. The service was excellent. The property owner lived next door and was very helpful in making our stay as pleasant as possible. He knows the Lake District and his recommendations about places to visit were very valuable. The cottage had everything we needed. The mountains are at your doorstep and wonderful walks ( climbing and easy) can start at the location. The Hardknott Pass (not in bad weather) makes it easy to visit the Westside of the Lake District.

“Great location, lovely home” My husband, our three children (ages 9, 7 and 5) and I stayed at Wastwater Cottage for several nights in late October, and it was wonderful! We drove over Hardknott Pass on our way into the Eskdale Valley--a definite "must" if the weather is nice and you're not afraid of steep, narrow roads--and stopped at the Roman fort on our way down to Boot. Boot is quite a little village, but a great place to stay! We walked from the cottage down to the Brook House Inn for dinner two of the nights we stayed in Boot. The food there was great, as was the ambiance. We also had dinner at the Woolpack another night--less ambiance, but good food nonetheless! (They also had a safe that my boys spent half an hour trying to "crack" open. Great fun for them!) We took some lovely hikes from the cottage to St. Catherine's Church and through the woods to Stanley Ghyll waterfall. We also took the narrow gauge steam train from Boot to Ravenglass (the station is a five minute walk from the cottage) and enjoyed a full day at Muncaster Castle. The drives around Boot are simply amazing! The scenery is gorgeous, and my children loved the fact that we often had to stop to wait for cows and sheep to get off the road before we could pass. Wastwater Cottage is wonderful! Nice, open floor plan, comfortable beds, and lots of delightful architectural details! The Sky TV was out while we were visiting, but Bob was so hospitable that he gave us the keys to another cottage if we wanted to watch TV. We never took him up on the offer because there were DVDs to keep the kids entertained while we were "home," but it was a generous offer anyway. Both Bob and Greg were amazingly helpful, giving us lots of information and advice that made our trip-planning so much better! I really wish we could have stayed longer! But we hope to be back in the summer, and we'd definitely stay in Wastwater Cottage again!

“Cracking breakaway place.” This place was dynamite. We went there for one of our two honeymoons straight from our wedding and it was all we wanted. The cottage was superb and as was the host. And the area fantastic. Spectacular views, the Beck itself is roaring beauty, the country pubs (The Woolpack, King George IV and Brook Inn) are legendary; great food and quality ales. We trekked around How's Wood and Wast Water and drove the narrow roads (like you're in a rally without the speeds of course!). What more could you want for a top breakaway from the big bad city? Brilliantly run and can't say enough.

“Scafell Cottage for a Perfect Holiday” A beautiful cottage in a perfect setting with everything you could need supplied and spotlessly clean. Scafell was absolutely perfect for our family of 9 and we all felt so at home there. It was comfortable, cosy and homely. The teenagers were initially aghast to find there was no signal for their iphones etc but were so happily occupied cycling, walking and yes they were even swimming up at the pool by the Mill, that the phones were soon forgotten about and we had more conversation with them than we have had for ages! Ann and Bob the caretakers are lovely people and so helpful. Boot is the perfect location for walking, cycling or just lazing about by the river. Local food was first class.

“simply the best!” Lovely little cottage - all on one level, so good for those with limited mobility. Excellent condition throughout - clean, comfortable, warm, well-equipped. Good walking and cycling from the doorstep - and the full Sky TV package for the odd rainy day! Helpful and unobtrusive staff on site from time to time if needed. Two good pubs within walking distance for excellent meals. Highly recommended for a couple seeking a dream holiday in a stunning location!

“Idyllic, peaceful retreat in Eskdale” We are returning to this lovely place for the third successive year in 2013. Stanley Ghyll Cottage is set apart from the other beautifully converted farm buildings at the end of a private farm lane. It is quiet, cosy, comfortable, very-well equipped and spotlessly clean. It is small but perfectly adequate for two adults who get on well together! Wifi and television are somewhat unpredictable but one does not come to remote Eskdale for such things. Freezer space is very limited. Walking in one direction from the cottage, one is soon on the fells in the direction of Wastwater; in the other direction a short stroll takes one to the banks of the river Esk (a delightful alternative on the inevitable rainy/misty days). The Woolpack Inn, a few miles down the road, serves excellent food. Will be wonderful to return here!

“A cosy food filled weekend away - We're coming back!” We got back yesterday from our short weekend break at the Applebarn, and it just wasn't enough. A beautiful house with all the amneties you need for a home away from home. We settled in right away, with John being very accommodating to any questions/requests we had. There's a chest of board games which literally made our weekend, so much fun. There's a beautiful garden to the property, it's a shame it was January, but we'll definitely be visiting again in the summer to make full use of it and the BBQ!
