Location description from owner

The England region

Blissfully warm compared to most of Britain, this part of Cornwall is blessed with generally 'soft' weather and a kind micro climate, attested to by the fields of early Daffodils and rare tropical plants that abound in the area. The Lizard coast is famous for its unique geological structure and dramatic coastline (to which many ships have succumbed in the past) which gives this area its particular 'flavour'. Coverack's proximity to the gentle green creeks of the Helford River also provides a diversity of landscape and offers a variety of places to explore.

There are many beautiful gardens and National Trust properties within the area, whilst St. Ives (Tate gallery, Hepburn Garden and numerous other galleries, as well as fabulous long surfing beaches), Penzance (St. Michael's Mount, proximity to fishing port of Newlyn with its fish markiet) or Falmouth (superb Maritime Museum, picturesque waterfront, numerous yachting facilities) are all within an hour's drive. There are many beautiful coves and beaches, such as Kynance Cove, and picturesque villages such as Gweek to visit nearby. Within easy reach of Coverack you could also go down a mine, visit the most Southerly point in Britain at the Lizard or walk round the romantic 'Frenchman's Creek'.

Water sports abound. The Helford River is a famous sailing location and there is some wonderful diving to be had locally at Porthkerris. Surfing locally would depend on the winds, but the North Coast offers some superb surfing throughout the year and many great surfing beaches can easily be accessed within an hour's drive. For those who wish to be in the car a little longer, you could even take a day out exploring the Lost Gardens of Heligan or the Eden Project, both near St. Austell, or why not take them in during your journey down?

Coverack

Coverack has several good shops and a variety of places to eat, an art gallery and delicious home made ice cream and pasty outlets. A well known and popular windsurfing school is also located by the harbour, from which you can rent out kayaks or try out your windsurfing skills. Exhibitions of the work of local artists take place biennially in the village hall, which also houses and showcases other village activities such as musical evenings. A good Information Board in the village gives details of all local events, many of which take place on an annual or regular basis, such as gig racing, Lifeboat Day, Air Day at RNAS Culdrose, Helston Flora Day, and the Regatta. There are a number of good pubs and Restaurants nearby, whilst you can find organic produce at local farm shops or even at many roadside locations. Roskilly's Dairy produces some of the most scrumptious ice cream in Britain and you can take the family there for a day out, to see the milking and sample the product.

The Cornish Coastal Path runs through the village, offering ample opportunity for exploring the varied coastline in the area. There are also a number of well documented circular walks available which take you to various places of interest. Flowers abound, and in the spring wild daffodils, bluebells and primroses can be found unusually within yards of the sea. The famous 'Manacles', just off Lowland point has claimed several ships in the past, most notably the SS Paris, after which the pub is named, whilst from the look out point on Black Head you can observe a wide variety of sea life, from basking sharks to a wide diversity of sea birds. The Church at St. Keverne is of particular interest to historians and is within walking distance of Coverack. If you wish to go out, the Seal Sanctuary provides an excellent visit for children, and Goonhilly Earth Station is also nearby. Riding, golf at St. Ives or Mullion, hunting with the Cury or whale and marine life watching are all possible - it all depends on how energetic you want to be.

When all is said and done, however, for the true Coverack lover little compares to the gentle pleasures of the beach at low tide, a little fishing or possibly crabbing for the children, a beverage on the harbour wall and the company of family and friends........

“Fantastic house, we have already booked again for next year.”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2016

Wonderful, comfortable, child friendly house. We had six adults and two children under four in our party, the house was well equipped with plenty of space. Wonderful garden with spectacular views. We are all looking forward to a return visit next year, the owner was a pleasure to deal with.

“Fantastic family hideaway in a great location”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2016

Fantastic house. Loads of room for the 8 of us inside and outside. We loved the early morning rabbit visits and the nesting swifts, as well as the fire pit area, which had incredible views. The beds were super comfy and the upstairs lounge was a great area to escape to for movies and peace and quiet! The location is excellent - with quick access into Coverack and the 'secret beach' via the coast path. We would heartily recommend Tregarreck to anyone who wants to stay in this beautiful part of Cornwall.
