Location description from owner

The Cotswolds region

The English county of Gloucestershire forms the greater part of the Cotswolds region but the other English Counties of Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Somerset also contain parts; an area once given over entirely to sheep-farming. Many of the fine churches and manor houses owe their existence to the generosity of the wealthy medieval yeoman farmers and wool merchants. The dignified villages and towns owe much of their charm from the use of the warm, honey-coloured limestone which was locally quarried by hand and used alike for humble weavers cottages, mansions, and churches. Never far from sight, numerous streams wind through the valleys and chatter alongside main streets.Worcestershire mainly lies between the majestic Malvern Hills and the mellow Cotswolds and does include the village of Broadway, known as the Jewel of the Cotswolds and the northern gateway to the Cotswolds. It is a county of contrasts with charming villages, bustling towns and the magnificent cathedral city of Worcester nestle in a mixture of mature woodland, meandering river valleys, fruit orchards and farmland.Worcestershire has peaceful countryside with a turbulent past. Rolling landscape, open hills and breathtaking views await you. Cattle graze in the shadows of Iron Age hillforts, medieval settlement remains or on the former battlefields of the English Civil War.

Broadway

Often referred to as the 'Jewel of the Cotswolds', Broadway village lies beneath Fish Hill on the western Cotswold escarpment, in the county of Worcestershire and close to the border of Gloucestershire.Broadway's unique location makes it an ideal base for visiting the Cotswold's numerous villages and is within easy reach of such places as Stratford upon Avon with its Shakespeare Theatre, Warwick with the finest medieval castle in England, Regency Cheltenham, Oxford with its University Colleges, Bath with its Roman Baths and so much more.Broadway is one of the most beautiful Cotswold villages, situated at the Gateway to the Cotswolds (and only 2 hours from central London). Its wide High Street lined with horse chestnut trees contains a mixture of period houses and picturesque honey coloured Cotswold stone cottages which have lured visitors for centuries. The Cotswolds are located at the heart of England, with good transport links to many airports.
