The Cotswolds region

The Cotswolds lie mainly in Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. Famous since medieval times for sheep-rearing and wool production they are now designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The magic of the Cotswolds is enhanced by the architecture. Beautiful old buildings of weathered honey-coloured stone delight the senses in every hamlet and village. Numerous tourist attractions, National Trust properties, first class restaurants, and cosy, traditional inns warmed by roaring fires, attract visitors from all over the world.

Bourton-on-the-Water

Bourton-on-the-water, one of the most famous and prettiest villages of the Cotswolds, is located at the hub of the area so is an ideal base from which to explore. Known as "The Venice of the Cotswolds" it is the only one of the six famous Cotswold villages (Bourton-on-the-water, Broadway, Burford, Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-Marsh, and Stow-on-the-wold) to have a river meandering through the main street, crossed by small footbridges and populated by wildfowl. On all sides are charming Cotswold buildings weathered by age and softened by foliage. The centuries roll back and it is easy to envisage the appearance of an English village in a bygone era.
Places of interest in Bourton-on-the-water include Birdland, The Motor Museum, the Perfumery, the Model Village and the Maze.

“Excellent”

Reviewed 21 Apr 2016

We had a delightful extended weekend family get-together in this lovely, extremely comfortable and well appointed property. It was well equipped with everything we needed and we felt very much at home. It is situated on a quiet road close to the centre of the village near to shops and restaurants. We would have no hesitation in recommending Welcome Cottage and are looking forward to returning in the future.

Many thanks to you for taking time to send in this very warm-hearted review. It pleases us to hear that you had a good time there and also that you would like to return.

“Gorgeous family cottage - fantastic weekend”

Reviewed 20 Apr 2016

We had an absolutely fantastic weekend celebrating a special 60th birthday. 12 family and friends all enjoyed our stay in your gorgeous home - not sure how you bear to rent out this cottage and not live in it yourselves. Welcome Cottage is just off the main street but within easy walking distance to good restaurants and pubs. Lots of information regarding local areas of interest and walks were left, for which we were grateful. Very informative and helpful hosts. We all hope to return one day soon.

What a lovely review you have sent us. We really appreciate your submitting these very kind comments. Thank you so much.

“Perfect location for family celebration”

Reviewed 10 Mar 2016

Welcome Cottage is exactly what it is,warm, clean, very comfortable with some added touches of luxury. On our arrival there were two vases of fresh flowers which provided a very homely feel to the rooms. All our party were thrilled with their rooms and the ambience of this large beautiful house which catered perfectly for the needs of nine adults and ten month old twins. It is situated a few minutes walk from all the amenities of Bourton-on -the -Water.Our family celebration was a great success and we left with many very happy memories of this lovely home.

Our sincere thanks to you for writing such a lovely review. It is heart-warming to read your comments and we do appreciate the time and effort involved to compose and submit such kind words.

“Quintessential Cotswold holiday!”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2016

Warm and cozy, bright and cheery describes this perfectly located cottage. The town of Bourton is delightful, with pubs, tea rooms, shops and a small grocery. Welcome Cottage is a very short walk to the center. Perfect! The house is deceptively large. A garden room can seat 12, with two smaller living areas, too. A huge dining table can seat everyone. The kitchen is well equipped with tools, dishes and pots for a crowd. Add to that a multi oven stove, an American size refrigerator and TWO washer and dryers! Woohoo! What more could you want? Add to that 6 comfortable bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths! The garden is just lovely, beautifully planted and maintained. The patio has several bistro tables and chairs for outside dining. But, best of all...Margaret and David decorated for Christmas! A tree and mantel decor plus more...even stockings hung at the large fireplace! The whole atmosphere was so welcoming! We will cherish our time spent at this lovely home!

We are delighted to receive this review. Thank you very much for taking time to compose such lovely comments. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your Christmas there.

“Outsatnding accomodation and location for a special family time”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2016

Welcome Cottage provides the highest quality accommodation, in a picture postcard setting. Every room is decorated to reflect the character of this 17th century cottage and is comfortable as well as sumptuous. The wonderful space provides opportunity for the family to relax together, share meals and play games or spend time apart doing their own thing. The kitchen has all the facilities to make cooking for 10 or more very easy and the conservatory provided an excellent space for us all to welcome in the New Year. The fact that the owners had gone to the effort to decorate the accommodation in a festive manner was much appreciated. There is ample parking for 4 cars and the close proximity of the village ensured we were able to take plenty of walks - in between the rain. Welcome cottage is a must for anyone looking for a successful, memory filled time with family or friends.

This is a beautiful review you have written for us. We thank you most sincerely for your wonderfully kind words.

“Lovely property for a large family/friends gathering”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2015

Welcome cottage is a great property, which has plenty of room for all guests to gather together or to have some individual space if required. We had 5 cars and parked them easily - the walk into town is only 2 minutes so location is perfect. Large dining table to fit all guests at meal times, with a kitchen well facilitated to cater for large groups - I would say though as it is a galley style kitchen it is a bit of a squeeze to pass someone at the range but there is a table with chairs adjacent for those who wish to keep the chefs/cooks company. The conservatory is lovely and more than warm enough (and we visited end october) as was the whole house. Great walks available from the cottage both into town and further afield.

Thank you very much Trevor for your lovely enthusiastic comments. We greatly appreciate your taking time to submit these kind words.

“Brilliant large house for a family get together or celebration with friends”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2015

Beautifully furnished house with great atmosphere within 5 minutes walk of the village centre, where parking can be a problem. Well equipped - comfortable bedrooms, modern bathrooms, tastefully decorated and good quality towels. The large conservatory is an excellent area for all to socialise and children to play and the main lounge very comfortable in evenings. The small 2nd lounge is ideal for kids playing or quiet reading. There is a lovely large garden where the children could play safely. We had 11 in our party - 6 adults and five young children and we would recommend this house to anyone. The name fits the house! Added bonus is parking on the driveway.

We do appreciate your taking time to submit this very kind review. Thank you so much for your words.

“Home from home, spacious, wonderful loction”

Reviewed 30 Sep 2015

Welcome Cottage is a lovely home, well appointed and equipped. Bathrooms and kitchen are modern. The numerous reception rooms are an advantage for big groups and the conservatory is a light, cosy gathering space for all. The location, close to the Windrush River and main village hub, is off on a quiet road and is very peaceful. Lovely garden; safe for children as the property is walled and gated. Highly recommended. Facility to pay by credit card would be useful.

Sincere thanks on sending such a kind review to Tripadvisor. We really value your taking time to do so and your enthusiastic comments.

“A lovely house in a beautiful Cotswald village”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2015

The owners of The Welcome Cottage were wonderful to work with. They are very efficient and helpful. The house was perfect for our group of 6. Very well equipped kitchen, wonderful lounge areas. Multiple TV;s and DVD players. The description of the house on the website was absolutely accurate. A nice bonus was a charming lawn with outdoor furniture and off street parking. Located in the beautiful village of Bourton On The Water, the house was a short walk to the center of town. Bourton has all the amenities you would want and is perfectly situated to visit all the sites in The Cotswalds. We've rented lots of homes in France and Italy and we rate this the best of all of them. Kudos to the owners.

Many thanks for your very kind and complimentary feedback. We are delighted to hear that you really liked the cottage and appreciate your taking time to submit a review.

“The perfect place to unwind.”

Reviewed 29 Apr 2014

As the name implies, Welcome cottage has a very warm feel to it and is a perfect base to explore the Cotswolds. The accomodation is perfect for a family and is well furnished and kitted out with all the essentials. There were nine of us in our group for example, plenty of room for all. Bourton is a lovely place, i think everyone should spend at least a weekend there!

Thank you sincerely for your complimentary review.
