Location description from owner

The Cotswolds region

The Cotswolds lie mainly in Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. Famous since medieval times for sheep-rearing and wool production they are now designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The magic of the Cotswolds is enhanced by the architecture. Numerous charming and unspoiled villages built of locally quarried golden stone and weathered by age, delight the senses. Tourist attractions, National Trust properties, enticing shops, good restaurants and cosy traditional inns warmed by roaring fires welcome visitors from all over the world.

Bourton-on-the-Water

Bourton-on-the-Water, one of the most famous and prettiest villages of the Cotswolds, is located at the hub of the area so is an ideal base from which to explore. Known as "The Venice of the Cotswolds" it is the only one of the six famous Cotswold villages ( Bourton-on-the-water, Broadway, Burford, Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold) to have a river meandering through the main street. This is criss-crossed by small footbridges and populated by wildfowl. On all sides are charming Cotswold buildings of honey-coloured stone, mellowed by age and softened by foliage. The centuries roll back and it is easy to envisage the appearance of an English village in a bygone era. Places of interest in Bourton include Birdland, the Motor Museum, the Perfumery, the Model Village and the Maze.

“Absolutely a place to return, very nice.”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2015

All comfort available, even for a long stay, clean rooms and spacious. We really enjoyed staying at Robin's Nest.

Owner's reply: We do appreciate your kind comments about the cottage. Thank you very much.

“Comfortable and spacious cottage in a wonderful location, close to the heart of the village.”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2015

We loved Robin's Nest. It was very clean and well equipped. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the house felt very comfortable, deceptively spacious and yet cosy. It is very close to the centre of the village, with good parking. We enjoyed walking along the pavement into the centre of Bourton and then found the peaceful walk into Bourton beside the river which is quiet and delightful. We had a very enjoyable long weekend with extended family of all ages just before a family wedding and would love to visit again.

Owner's reply: Thank you for very kindly submitting a lovely review of Robins Nest and we are pleased with your feedback comments.

“A great home base.”

We are six Canadian adults (three generations) that enjoyed having a bedroom for each of us and lots of space to relax. The house was very close to the quaint village centre and a very comfortable home to come back to after a busy day out. It had everything we needed and was exactly as advertised.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your positive feedback on Robins Nest. We appreciate your taking time to submit that.

“Delightful location for our family to enjoy this part of the Cotswolds.”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2015

We were offered this delightful cottage by the very helpful owners when we lost out on a smaller one, and I am now very pleased that we did. It was everything that we needed for a quick escape to the Cotswolds with the children and dog! It was much larger than we required as it sleeps 10, but at the same time it was very comfortable and cosy and we were able to entertain my husband's cousins and their families, who lived nearby, with ease. It was clean and well stocked, comfortably furnished with fires in the dining room and living room, great kitchen for preparing meals for a large group and it felt very much like home for those few days. The cottage was a short walk from the centre of this village with the ever entertaining river for my children's amusement, and there were nice walks around for walking with the dog. On the one rainy day we spent indoors we were able to entertain the family, as mentioned, with lots of space for groups to break off so the younger children could be entertained in one space while the older folk could quietly catch up in another. The house is very efficiently heated as we had some quite cold nights but were always nice and warm, and there were great showers and comfortable beds. This cottage is very tastefully appointed and furnished, and during our time here we really did indeed feel at home. I would highly recommend it.

Owner's reply: We are so pleased that you liked the cottage and thank you very much for taking time to submit such a lovely review of your stay.

“Charming, cosy and delightful.”

Robins Nest is perfectly located - it is in walking distance of all the quaint little shops and pubs in Bourton on the Water. The cottage itself was spacious, warm and very cosy -. everything you would want from a quintessential English county cottage. We took a nice stroll to Lower Slaughter and sampled cream teas from The Slaughters Country Inn, which was worth every penny. We also visited Stow-on-the Wold, Evesham, Pershore and Broadway. We had a great time, including Pete, our Jack Russell, who was in no way left out. By the way, the food at The Duke of Wellington, Bourton on the Water was very good!

Owner's reply: We greatly appreciate the kind words you have written about the cottage. Thank you very much for your lovely review.

“A perfect base to explore the little Venice of the Cotswolds”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2014

Robin's next was a perfect base for our family stay - a real home from home. The rooms and amenities provided us with everything we needed and if we did need anything else then we were just a short walk from the high street, where there was lots to see and do - would recommend the dragonfly maze, and the site seeing tour and quiz from the visitor information centre - definitely not just for the kids!! David and Margaret were really helpful when we booked, provided us with all the information we needed and helped to make a long overdue family trip a memorable stay. We'll be back!

Owner's reply: Thank you for spending time to send us a lovely review. We value it.

“Idyllic holiday home for a trip with children to a wonderful part of the Cotswolds”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2014

We booked this wonderful cottage for my wife and I to stay with our 9 year old and 5 year old boys for 4 nights. We arrived to a warm and very clean cottage which was tastefully furnished to a high standard. The cottage layout was family friendly with comfortable seating in the kitchen. There was a large spacious dining room and relaxing lounge. Bedrooms were warm and welcoming with plenty of bed linen and duvets. Bathrooms were all spotlessly clean with ample hot water on demand. Electricity was by meter and although we were not used to this, it worked very well and was remarkably cheap (we paid less than £1.00 per day). We found the main benefits of this cottage were ideal doorstep parking, garden area to sit or play in, and the ability to walk into the village and surrounding area away from roads. For a family there is plenty to do in the village with a well stocked supermarket. For rainy days there is an excellent swimming pool within easy walking distance. The owners were very easy to communicate with through e-mail when we were booking and they were quick and helpful when replying to queries. In summary we would thoroughly recommend this fantastic, well run cottage to families and larger groups, both for its facilities and location. We would definitely go back to this cottage if going to the area again.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for sending us a lovely review.

“A wonderful character cottage with lots of space for a large family in a great location”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2014

The cottage was very well equipped with everything catered for. Lots of lovely touches throughout the cottage made it feel very homely. A great social kitchen with range cooker, really useful utility room and a fabulous shower. An excellent location from which to explore Bourton and the surrounding countryside. The whole family had a great time, thank you.

Owner's reply: We much appreciate your writing a very complimentary review of Robins Nest. Thank you!

“Fantastic”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2013

The cottage was roomy, welcoming and cosy. Beds were comfortable and with different degrees of soft/hard mattresses in various rooms to cater to different tastes. House was close (walking distance) to all amenities and Bourton-on-Water. Also central to all other Cotswold villages, Bath, etc. Children thoroughly enjoyed it especially the kiwi/aussie daughter because the owners put on "snow" for our first few days (probably not something they can guarantee, but we found it wonderful, coming from a hot summer)!! Cannot sing the praises of this cottage enough.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your lovely review.

“Wonderful mid week break”

Reviewed 1 Jun 2012

We had a fantastic mid week break at Robins nest mid May 2012. The house is perfectly equipped, and the owners have thought of everything you require. We were an extended family of eight, with a toddler, a baby and a disabled adult. The house was perfect for us, particularly with regards to our requirements for such a mixed party. There was a problem with the one stair-gate midway during our stay. We called the caretaker of the property and it was repaired within a couple of hours. This is an idle location for exploring the whole the Cotswolds. It is a short walk into the centre of Bourton on the Water which has loads to offer the whole family. Thanks for the perfect stay.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for giving us such an enthusiastic review. It was lovely to read your reaction to the cottage.
