Pubs and Eating.
Cornwall is an excellent place to eat and drink. It has everything from the local Cornish Pasty (available everywhere!) through to award winning restaurants, such as Rick Stein's in Padstow, Paul Ainsworth's Number 6 in Padstow and Jamie Oliver's Fifteen in Watergate Bay.
The National Trust.
The National Trust own many beaches, gardens and houses in Cornwall.
Crantock is a picturesque village of historical note, on the North coast of Cornwall with one of the best beaches in the area. It has an ancient church, two pubs a tea room, an art gallery, gift shop and a village store.
It is only five miles from Newquay, but a world apart. It is popular with families in the summer and people who wish to surf, walk and enjoy all Cornwall has to offer all year round.
Crantock is the site of a much older settlement - Langurroc, which means the 'dwelling of the monks'. The village gets it name from the Celtic Saint Caranog, who is also known as Carantoc. It is suggested that Crantock was founded by St.Carantacus in the 5th century, who was the son of a Welsh chieftain, and established his church. The present church is reputed to be built upon the same site.
Crantock and Polly Joke beaches.
Crantock beach is a great beach for families and surfers alike. It has a wide sandy beach with sand dunes between the beach and the village. At low tide you can walk along the beach to West Pentire. Crantock beach is lifeguard patrolled so that swimmers can enjoy both swimming and the excellent surf, being the next beach along from Newquay's famous, championship surfing Fistral beach.
Polly Joke beach is the next beach around the coast going west. It has been described as one of the best beaches in Cornwall. Accessible only by foot makes it less busy than other beaches in Summer.
Pubs and Eating.
Crantock village has two pubs, the Old Albion Inn and the Cornishman, which are a short walk from Waylands. The Bowgie Inn, in West Pentire, is a walkable 1 mile away. It has a stunning setting for eating or enjoying a few drinks after a walk on the beautiful headland or the unspoiled beaches. In Cubert, 3 miles from Crantock, is the Smugglers Den, a beautiful 16th century thatched pub which has a reputation for good food and wine.
There are numerous walks around Crantock, from stunning coastal walks to woodland walks, At low tide there is a lovely walk across the River Gannel to Pentire Head, Fistral beach and Newquay. Or at high tide there is a summer ferry across the river.
Newquay, Shopping and a Big Supermarket.
There is a large Morrisons supermarket about 5 minutes drive out of the village towards Newquay. Crantock is about 5 miles south-west of Newquay, which in the summer is a bustling holiday resort with shops, many clubs and pubs. There is a regular bus service to Newquay and Truro from just outside our cottage.
In Crantock there is a village store and post office that provides many of your essential needs.

"Smart and yet characterful"
We had a wonderful time at Waylands. The cottage excellent value for money. It was spacious, well kitted out, smart and yet full of character. It is located well for exploring the various beaches nearby (Porth Joke being a favourite) and the beautiful coastline. The only downside was a bit or a sore head from bumping it on the low beams, but it's all part of cottage living and you soon get to know where to duck! We would certainly consider returning in the future.

"Lovely cottage in a fantastic location"
We stayed at the cottage for a week in March. The cottage is situated in the delightful village of Crantock. The beach at Crantock is a real gem and we enjoyed walking from here to Fistral beach and eventually into Newquay harbour. We also enjoyed walking at St Agnes Head along the coastal path.
The cottage is very well located and during our stay we visited the Eden project, St Michael's Mount, Lands End, St ives, Mousehole, Padstow and more - so it is in an ideal location to tour the area.
The cottage is spacious, clean and decorated to a high standard. The owners Pete and Tracey couldn't have been more helpful.
Make sure that you sample the good food and real ale at the Albion Inn in Crantock.

Gill, thank you for your review, & we are glad you enjoyed your stay at Waylands.
After you left, we too couldn't find the 2 pairs of oven gloves - normally kept in the drawer under the oven. A previous guest had moved them to a drawer under the hob.
Note to future guests: "You do not need to bring your own!" :-)
