Getting around

The best way to get around the village is on foot and the Croft is centrally located making it easy to access the shop and pubs. The pathways also provide some stunning views of the beautiful gardens in Winster. In and around the peak district, a car is the best way to get around. However, Winster is served by a regular bus service to Matlock, which has a railway station that connects to the Midlands.

Interaction with guest

We prefer to let people discover the local area for themselves. However, we are at hand if you need any advice, We have had holiday homes in the peak district for over 20 years and so can provide advice and help when requested. At the Croft there are many leaflets and maps with literally hundreds of things to do.

“"Wonderful, picturesque, Cosy Cottage with all mod cons & Dog Friendly too!!"”

Reviewed 16 Feb 2018

My partner and I and our faithful Hound Luchia stayed for a weekend in February 2018. We really loved this cottage, facilities were fantastic, everything we needed was provided. (almost)! Excellent place to cook, which we did, wonderful range cooker, very comfortable, beds. Amazing Bathroom. We had snow, although in Peak District this is the norm in winter!! Fantastic garden with stunning and far reaching views, although we didn't spend too much time there due to weather. Our dog loved it though. Winster itself is a wonderful and very picturesque Village, within close proximity to the whole of the Peak District. Local shop is wonderful, stocks pretty much anything you would need. The cottage does have a reasonably low beam in the kitchen, and also a little low when going up the stairs, however my partner is 6'4" and he managed the whole weekend without crashing into anything. The hill up to the cottage is very steep and narrow in places (as stipulated in the directions) although we didn't have any problems and drive a VW Passat Estate. Parking outside the cottage is good, no problems as long as you park next to adjacent wall. Only thing we really missed was some logs for the log burner on the Friday night when we arrived, as it was too late for us to buy any locally after our drive up from London. I know some cottages provide enough for the first night, and other cottages only provide if you book for a whole week. Would be helpful to know in advance, as we love our log fires!! All in all, a fantastic cottage, would stay again in a heartbeat :)

“A perfect cottage in the Peak District”

I spent a lovely long weekend at The Croft in December .The cottage is fully equipped and I can't think of anything it lacks. The log fire makes the house feel very cosy.Winster is an excellent centre for walking and it is possible to find many local walks without getting in the car.I would like to go back in the summer and enjoy the garden.

“Lovely Cottage in a beautiful village”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2017

Our stay at The Croft was part of a whistle stop tour of the UK visiting friends and relatives. It was a few days we had planned to spend relaxing on our own. This was the perfect spot to do it. Lovely cottage, comfortable and well kitted out. Superb walking for us and the dogs and really friendly locals to chat to whenever we went out.

“Rest & Relaxation!”

Reviewed 16 May 2017

What a fantastic cottage with everything you need to chill out and relax on your holiday. We had such a lovely time chilling and chatting in the well laid out garden before moving down into the conservatory once the sun went down. All in all between the cottage and the Peaks it's hard to beat!!

“Perfect Peak District cottage, packed with charm”

Reviewed 1 Dec 2016

This was my second stay at The Croft, and it won't be my last. The cottage is full of character and makes the perfect base for long walks, complete with crackling fire and hot bath at the end of a long, cold day! Loved every minute and look forward to being back in the future.

“Exellent holiday cottage”

We spent a wonderful 4 days here in the Peak District. The cottage is absolutely perfect and very well located in a super village with 2 pubs and a small shop. The owner was incredibly helpful - we would definitely stay here again.

“Derbyshire Delight!!”

Reviewed 7 Oct 2016

What a beautiful little gem The Croft in Winster is!!! The cottage is very welcoming and warm and very well appointed! A lovely retreat to return to after a hard days walking with our two dogs. We had very thing we needed supplied in the cottage and to be able to use the garden so late in the season was an added bonus.......views to die for!!!! We found the village and villagers extremely friendly and enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch in one of the village pubs The Bowling Green. Will definitely look to return again!!

“Excellent getaway cottage”

A delightful few days spent in this beautiful cottage and village. The cottage was perfect for a family of four; couldn't fault it. Communication with owner was first class. Would definitely say here again

“Lovely cosy cottage equipped to a very high standard”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2014

Really lovely cottage equipped to a very high specification. We stayed when the weather was dank and gloomy and it was lovely to arrive to a warm and cosy cottage. The views from the garden are fantastic and in summer the outdoor space for eating would be lovely. The stairs are very steep and so is the walk down to the village and this would be a problem for anyone with walking difficulties.

“Exceeded our expectations”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2013

The cottage is lovely and is in the idyllic village of Winster, in a very beautiful area of the country. The village shop and village pub are great. We had a fantastic meal at the pub in the neighbouring village. Myself, My husband, 2 kids and our dog stayed for a long weekend. The garden is small and perfect. Because it is at the top of the village the views are spectacular.

Owner's reply: I am glad to hear you had a wonderful stay at The Croft. Winster is very peaceful, a real gem in the Peak District. I do hope you return in the future.
