Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The East Neuk (Corner) of Fife is one of Scotland's undiscovered corners. From the small fishing villages on the southern coastline that would not be out of place in Cornwall (but are nowhere near as busy) to the world famous Home of Golf in St Andrews the attractions of the region are many and diverse.

The entire coast of Fife is circled by the Fife coastal path and many of the most beautiful and scenic parts of this path are in the East Neuk, a great bus network means you can drop your car at the start of many of these sections and catch the "coastliner" bus back to your car after your walk (and possibly after a quick drink in one of the many great pubs along the walk.

As you might expect in a region that is surrounded by the sea there are many opportunities to sample the local produce, from Michelin starred restaurants in Peat inn and Elie to the famous Anstruther Fish Bar there is a restaurant for every pocket and taste as well as farm shops and a myriad of other providers of local produce if you want to cook it yourself..

In addition to the attractions of the East Neuk, the region itself is within easy striking distance of Scotland capital city; Edinburgh and there are many easy routes from Fife that will allow you to get into the city without having to take your car in and find a parking space. As well as Edinburgh the city of Dundee is close by. Dundee features many museums and a great variety of shops and is currently undergoing a multi million pound waterfront facelift which will see the arrival of the V&A museum in Scotland within the next few years.

Beyond Dundee it is not far into the mountains of the Cairngorms and Perthshire and the start of the "Highlands" with gateway cities and towns like Perth and Pitlochry worth a visit as well as attractions such as Glamis Castle and Loch Rannoch.

Upper Largo

Upper Largo is a stones throw from Largo Bay and the beach at Lower Largo and there are a number of walks that take you down from the village to the beach. For those wanting more of a walking challenge the volcanic plug of Largo Law rises up steeply behind the village and is an excellent challenge for those wanting to test themselves (please check the noticeboard at the foot of the Law for dog access as it varies by season).

The village of Upper Largo has an excellent pub/restaurant which is a very short walk from Kirkside Cottage, the Crusoe Hotel and the Railway Inn are a longer walk or a short drive away in Lower Largo. The Railway is a great traditional dog friendly pub fantastic for a drink after a long walk, however it does not serve food, the Crusoe Bar and the Upper Largo Bar serve food and are dog friendly as well.

Kirkside Cottage lies in the shadow of the ancient Church in the village and is a short distance from the ruins of Largo House which sit by the Upper Largo Cricket pitch which makes an excellent dog walking area and is a few yards from Kirkside Cottage

“Everything I wanted”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2016

This is a great place to stay. It is well equipped with all amenities and tea, coffee and milk were supplied, along with a delicious fruit loaf and some excellent jam. The cottage is very comfortable. It was well located for what we wanted, which was a base to explore Fife. The trip was marred by really lousy weather so we could not walk much, but we would love to visit it in summer.

Hi Douglas, thanks for your kind review and we would love to welcome you back when the weather is more clement. Simon and Becca

“Cosy cottage with extra home-from-home touches”

Reviewed 5 Jan 2016

The cottage was immaculately clean and beautifully presented. It had everything we needed for a week's stay over new year from dishwasher and washing machine right down to stoppers for the wine bottles! It was exceedingly cosy, particularly in the living room which has a lovely open fire. In addition, the owners provided lots of lovely unexpected little extras including bathrobes, fresh flowers in all the rooms, some coal and logs to get the fire started and shortbread and homemade jam. There was even a bottle of cava in the fridge. My partner and I were accompanied by our nine-year-old daughter and she also loved the place. It was a real home-from-home.

Hi Mabraid, many thanks for you kind review we hope you can come and stay with us again in the future. Simon and Becca
