Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The house is located 10mins walk from St. Andrews town centre, making it an ideal base from which to visit the numerous golf courses, beaches and sites of historical interest in the area.

Scotland's beautiful capital city, Edinburgh, is around 90mins drive from St. Andrews.
Edinburgh is a thriving cosmopolitan city with many attractions, restaurants, bars and places of historical interest such as the stunning castle. The Edinburgh International Festival and Festival Fringe take place during the month of August each year and provide a fantastic day out.

St. Andrews

The historic town of St. Andrews is renowned worldwide as the home of golf. The Royal and Ancient clubhouse and The Old Course are within 20mins walk from the house, and all the other St Andrews Links Trust courses including, The New, Eden, Jubilee, Strathyrum, Balgove and recently opened Castle course and the other renowned courses in the surrounding areas including The Dukes, Kingsbarns, and the Fairmont St Andrews complex ( formerly St Andrews Bay), are easily accessible. The house sits on Tom Morris Drive, the street named after 2 of the great Open champions (Old Tom and Young Tom) of the late 19th century who resided in the town. The Golf Museum which sits opposite the R&A clubhouse is well worth a visit.

The Lammas Fair is an annual 5 day event which takes place in early August (Thurs 5th - Tues 10th 2010) and in addition to the fairground facilities, is said to be one of Scotland's oldest medieval markets. Traditional events including market stalls, food and drink stalls, concerts, dances and public functions make up most of the fair's program.

There are many other attractions in St. Andrews such as the beautiful award winning East and West Sands beaches, Scotland's oldest University founded in 1411, The Botanic Gardens, The Byre Theatre, Cathedral Ruins, Castle, St Rules Tower, Craigtoun Country Park, Aquarium and there's a sports centre with pool located just 10mins walk from the house next to East Sands beach.

There's a corner shop located just next to the house for essentials, and the numerous bars and restaurants in the town are within 10-15mins walk.

“Good House for Family Holiday”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2012

The house is a short walk outside the mediaeval centre of St Andrews and only a few minutes walk from the East Sands (beach, swimming pool, coastal walk). Clearly let to students in the term time, each bedroom is equipped with a large desk. The beds were comfortable but one of the bedrooms had a tall bookcase which as it was not secured to the wall presented a hazard to small children. The bathroom was clean and well appointed although the shower pressure was a little on the low side. Downstairs, the living room was of a good size for a family and the kitchen was very well-equipped. Pleasingly, the dining-area has a lino floor which was useful when cleaning up after small children. The main drawback was that the internal doors were fitted with a self-closing mechanism (possibly a Scottish fire regulation) and the relatively heavy doors were closed with some force. This was a concern with small children in the house. Outside the property scored very well, with a good sized and well-kept back garden which, importantly from the point of small children, was fully enclosed. The front garden had off-road parking for two cars and the neighbourhood was quiet. The small shop two doors away was also very useful. We would stay at this property again.

Owner's reply: The bookcase referred to in the review has now been secured to the wall. Also, as suggested, the self closing mechanisms fitted to the doors are necessary to comply with fire safety regulations in Scotland.
