"Good House for Family Holiday"
The house is a short walk outside the mediaeval centre of St Andrews and only a few minutes walk from the East Sands (beach, swimming pool, coastal walk). Clearly let to students in the term time, each bedroom is equipped with a large desk. The beds were comfortable but one of the bedrooms had a tall bookcase which as it was not secured to the wall presented a hazard to small children. The bathroom was clean and well appointed although the shower pressure was a little on the low side. Downstairs, the living room was of a good size for a family and the kitchen was very well-equipped. Pleasingly, the dining-area has a lino floor which was useful when cleaning up after small children. The main drawback was that the internal doors were fitted with a self-closing mechanism (possibly a Scottish fire regulation) and the relatively heavy doors were closed with some force. This was a concern with small children in the house. Outside the property scored very well, with a good sized and well-kept back garden which, importantly from the point of small children, was fully enclosed. The front garden had off-road parking for two cars and the neighbourhood was quiet. The small shop two doors away was also very useful. We would stay at this property again.
The bookcase referred to in the review has now been secured to the wall. Also, as suggested, the self closing mechanisms fitted to the doors are necessary to comply with fire safety regulations in Scotland.
