There is a sunny modern kitchen which is well equipped with oven, microwave, and a fridge and a small freezer. The hallway leads to a new state of the art bathroom with a curved bath, shower, basin and loo - this is truly a loo with a view. There is a separate cloakroom with w.c. and basin. The bedrooms have windows at both ends, with plentiful storage and hanging space. One room has a double bed and the second bedroom has twin beds, which can be put together to make a super kingsize bed. Just let us know your preferences. Both bedrooms have recently been refurnished and overlook unspoilt countryside.

Longwood Cottage is ideal for a winter break. Double glazing has been recently fitted and it has a very efficient central heating system which was recently renewed. Several of the local pubs have log fires and provide superb eating in a cosy setting at reasonable prices. For something really different visit Aunt Martha's tea shop in the Forest of Dean or shop at Westons Cider which is just a short way from Longwood.

The cottage overlooks a large private garden with access to Long Wood and pastureland. Wonderful walks abound and well behaved dogs are welcome. Enjoy watching a wealth of wild life and birds from the comfort of the cottage's sun deck.

This property is ideal for people who enjoy the country life. Just a short drive away are numerous pubs serving good food and local ales, as well as picturesque tea shops, and farm shops. There is a nearby village shop, post office and very good butcher all within a few minutes' drive. Herefordshire is known for its fine food and unhurried way of life. In the distance on Marcle Ridge are the gallops for Sapness Farm Racing Stables and the training jumps are easily visible from the cottage providing great interest when they are being used.

The Herefordshire region

Longwood Cottage is situated less than 15 minutes drive from the M.50 motorway yet is in another world being situated just off a winding country lane with very little passing traffic. The hamlet of Sollers Hope is situated in south east Herefordshire amongst some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain. Surrounded by woods, orchards, farmland and rollling green hills, it is bordered by Marcle Ridge from where there are superb views towards the Malvern Hills to the east, the Cotswolds to the south east, and the Welsh Borders and Black Mountains to the west. The River Wye is about two miles away, and the towns of Ross on Wye and Ledbury are both approximately eight miles away. Hereford City and its famous Cathedral (home of the Mappa Mundi) is approximately eight miles distant. There is easy access to many miles of footpaths, including the Wye Valley Walk and the Forest of Dean. Outdoor activities in the area include numerous golf courses, canoe expeditions on the River Wye and fishing. The nearby village of Much Marcle is the home of Weston's Cider, where you can a tour and enjoy a cider tasting. There are many ancient churches, fascinating old houses and gardens open to the public, as well as interesting leisure drives on uncrowded roads following the Black and White Village Trail, or over the hills to the book town of Hay on Wye. Throughout the summer there are countless country shows to visit, and Hereford's famous food festival takes place in the autumn, also a time when traditional ploughing matches take place with competitors and horses from all over the country.

Sollers Hope

Sollers Hope is the smallest of the picturesque Hope villages -both Woolhope and Fownhope are nearby and have country inns which are well known for their local ales and good food. One nearby pub, the Butchers Arms is now owned by London chef, Stephen Bull, and offers gastronomic fine dining. However, if you enjoy cooking, why not take a bread making course at a nearby farmhouse.

The area is known for its unspoilt countryside and is in fact listed as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Step back in time to enjoy the peace and tranquility and at night there is so little light pollution that star watching is a favourite pastime from the cottage deck. During you stay you may be lucky enough to see the local family of fallow deer pass through the adjacent fields, and there are frequently sightings of badgers, foxes and even occasionally hares at play. A short drive from the cottage is Haugh Wood with its miles of beautiful walks on gravel tracks - a lovely walk even when its raining.

The cottage itself is set within our 30 acre smallholding with the owner's property located a little way behind the cottage. There are uninterrupted views over the local countryside and visitors are welcome to walk in the grounds, sit at the picnic table by the lake or enjoy the wood. In the springtime the wild flowers in Long Wood have to be seen to be believed. This is a private woodland with a circular walk just for ourselves and our guests.

Ross on Wye is a short drive away with its variety of small shops, historic market hall and riverside walks.

"The owner makes you feel welcome and wanted, cottage so clean and excellent all round"

From the moment we arrived it was all about making us feel wanted. Veronica made my Mum, my cockapoo and myself so welcome. She was attentive without being over-powering. The accommodation and grounds were so much more than what we expected. The scenery was so beautiful. Tips on where to eat and go were spot on. I have already recommended the cottage to some friends and certainly plan on re-visiting later this year or next. I know I needed a holiday, but boy this one was over and above expectations. Thank you so, so much Veronica
