Location description from owner

The England region

The Peak District is an upland area in central and northern England, lying mainly in northern Derbyshire, but also covering parts of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire, and South and West Yorkshire. Before local government reorganisation in 1974, the national park lay within the historic county boundaries of Derbyshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire and the West Riding of Yorkshire.
An area of great diversity, it is conventionally split into the northern Dark Peak, where most of the moorland is found and whose geology is gritstone, and the southern White Peak, where most of the population lives and where the geology is mainly limestone-based.
Most of the area falls within the Peak District National Park, whose designation in 1951 made it the first national park in the United Kingdom. Proximity to the major cities of Manchester and Sheffield and the counties of Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Staffordshire and South and West Yorkshire, coupled with easy access by road and rail, have contributed to its popularity. The Peak District is sometimes claimed to attract an estimated 22 million visitors per year, making it the second most-visited national park in the world (after the Mount Fuji National Park in Japan), but the Peak District National Park Authority believe these figures to be incorrect or unsubstantiated, estimating instead that around 10 million people visit annually.

Hayfield

Little Hayfield is a hamlet in the Peak District National Park, in England. It lies on the A624 between Hayfield and Glossop. At the centre of the hamlet is the Lantern Pike pub. Sheepdog trials and fell racing take place in Little Hayfield.
Behind the pub is a trail leading to Lantern Pike. Walk down the short road, through a gate, past an old mill (converted into flats), and on up a rather muddy zig-zag lane to the summit itself.

“Absolutely beautiful property”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2016

This really is an exceptional place to stay-the photographs do not do it justice. It is far bigger and more impressive than we expected. The location is perfect, walks from the door, and a lovely 20 minute stroll into Hayfield(there is a public footpath off Slack Lane). The resident peacocks, ducks and ducklings provide much entertainment. The unmade track is rough-could be tricky in a small car. Some more information about local walks and places of interest would be good to have in the cottage, although anything you need can be picked up from the Visitor Centre in the village(on the car park for the Sett Valley Trail) Highly recommend!
