For the active visitor there is walking and cycling from the door, starting point for walks to Beresford & Wolfscote Dale are across the road. Tissington, High Peak and Manifold Cycle trails are a short cycle away.

Tourist attractions include market towns, stately homes, potteries, steam railways and a tramway museum. The RHS show is coming to Chatsworth in 2017. The High Peak area is 40mins drive away, visit caverns, go gliding, walk, visit Castleton and so much more. As well as lots of good food and drink.

For the last 20 years we have run Bears Barn as a 'home from home' holiday cottage and have received many lovely visitor comments, the best compliment is the number of repeat bookings we receive each year. Some of our guests have been coming for years, one couple has stayed 30 times and when he retired his company bought him a week at Bears Barn.

Hartington is in a valley, mobile phone coverage is provided via an O2 micro-cell, which means you can make phone calls if you are on the O2 or Tesco Mobile networks, but you won't get internet access via your mobile phone. We do provide a mobile for incoming calls.

Fear not - the barn does have its own WiFi.

Location description from owner

The England region

Cycling, walking, climbing, gliding, horse-riding and many tourist attractions are within easy reach. The Peak District National Park was formed in 1951 and covers 555 square miles, it is the second most visited National Park in the world. In Victorian times the spa towns of Buxton and Matlock were very popular and still attract many visitors today. The area is home to stately homes Chatsworth and Haddon Hall.

Annual well dressings are held in villages throughout Derbyshire.

Hartington

Hartington's greatest claim to fame has to be it's Stilton cheese. Manufactured on a grand scale for many years, the manufacture is now a much smaller operation, but just as tasty. Try the local Cheese Shop.

Close to the Tissington and High Peak trails makes Hartington a mecca for cyclists.

The area boasts hundreds of country walks, from tea shop trails to strenuous walking. Some of our visitors have even left us their worn out boots in the bin.

“A Real Gem”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2013

Just returned from a weeks holiday in Bears Barn it is one of nicest cottages you could wish to stay in. Everything in the cottage is as per advert. Peace and quiet in abundance and the village pub 200yds away. Bliss. Highly recommended
