“Outstanding holiday bungalow.” The view of the Mournes from the large windows of the bungalow is stunning and something we will remember for a very long time - to be honest Mournes watching is an activity in itself! All aspects of the accommodation are first class and I particularly enjoyed having, not only an en suite bathroom, but also a separate dressing room.
Everyone in our party, from the youngest to oldest (2 -65), appreciated this comfortable and spacious bungalow and the children had great fun in the garden, making friends with the 2 horses next door; they were christened Brownie and Patches!!
We know Newcastle quite well but I reckon the town has never looked better. We included visits to Tollymore Forest, Silent Valley Reservoir and the grandparents escaped for a day on the new ferry across Carlingford Lough. The children enjoyed a visit to Mount Panther Farm Park and a disco in Tropicana Pool.
Of course the real beauty of this location is that we had the wonderful Murlough Beach and Nature Reserve on our doorstep - the scope for walks is endless.
All in all a memorable family holiday - The Red Arrows even flew overhead as part of the annual Newcastle Air Show.
“Expectations exceeded” The Mourne House is a wonderful place to stay. Either with friends, as we did, or with a family.
How often does it happen that a rental villa exceeds the expectations? This time it did!
The house is principally new and has all the comfort required for a pleasant stay.
4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms suited our 6 people group very well. Separate rooms for dining, television, pool and a living room. Location is ideal just outside Newcastle.
“Holiday beauty” Was a beautiful place to visit stayed to visit family.. The whole house looks tiny from outside but big and spacious inside. Had lush fires in sitting room every night to keep us warm, games playing cards for the kids great view too. Highly recommended place to stay
“Super stay” The cottage was perfect. It was cosy, homely, clean and nicely decorated. Everything you need was there, with little toiletries, kitchen cupboard essentials and coal for the open fire as an added extra. Anne who welcomed us was lovely, so friendly and jolly and welcoming. Only stayed for 2 nights, it came to the morning we had to go home and we didn't want to leave! The cottage has gorgeous views and is a nice 15 ish minute walk into the town centre. The garden to the back of the cottage is also lovely if you have some nice weather to sit in. The heating is also super fast, gets toasty very quick on colder evenings!
Would definitely recommend this property, and Anne! Will hopefully be returning again in the future.
“Come the revolution we'll all live like this.” My wife and I stayed at the tollymore gate lodge for two nights, sadly it wasn't long enough the gate lodge is situated inside tollymore forest park with the mourne mountains right outside your front door, the gate lodge is a beautiful property that is deceptively bigger inside with two very spacious double bedrooms a well equipped kitchen with everything you will need for a comfortable stay such as cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle, coffee machine, well you get the idear you really do have everything you need and for the quiet evenings there is a large selection of board games and sat tv with a very good reception,if it's a quiet and relaxing break away from the stresses of everyday life then you won't find better than the tollymore gate lodge, book now and experience what life should be like for all of us, I can't recommend the gate lodge highly enough we certainly will be going back.
“Excellent accommodation superbly presented.” From Anne's welcome throughout our week at Sea Haven we felt completely at home. The views are great, the location close to shops. restaurants and Churches meant we could leave the car and walk unless we wanted to go further afield. The house had everything we wanted, including an umbrella which might well be needed on occasion. The most comfortable and well presented self catering accommodation that we have ever stayed in. Anne's welcoming basket was mouthwatering and much appreciated.
It was lovely to just sit and listen to the waves on the shore and relax each day. We hope to stay there again one day if opportunity offers.
As for being suitable for those with disabilities we think that wheel chair users might find the doorways a little difficult, although the shower room would be ideal.
Thank you, Anne and Phil.
“Great location” My partner & I stayed here for a week and really enjoyed the apartment and location. Tony was very attentive and answered any of our queries. Lovely rooms and comfortable beds. The town centre is a 10min walk and the supermarket is just up the road. Lots of parking and bins provided. Co. Down is beautiful and its a great place to stay. Tony provided a lovely welcome package - milk, bread, tea etc which was great after a long journey from Limerick. I would highly recommend this property. Thanks Tony.
“Wow!!!! What a wonderful place to stay.” We were greeted by the owner who explained everything clearly. The property was situated close to the town of Newcastle and easy to locate. We had access to Tollymore Forest park through a gate beside the property which was fantastic as we had 2 lively dogs with us and they love long walks. The grounds were enclosed and secure for the animals and children. The accommodation was spotless and had everything we needed including a welcome pack with a fresh crusty loaf, butter, jam, milk, tea, coffee and orange juice. Heating and lighting were included as was the use of a washing machine and hoover. A massive thank you to both Patricia and Julian. We will be visiting again.

Tollymore Gate Lodge
Beautiful cottage, just missing a few touches
Beautiful cottage in a fabulous location. Hosts were very accommodating when we were trying to change dates and communication was very good. The reason I gave the cottage a 4 rating is the fact it was soo cold when we arrived. It took a few hours to warm the house up. I appreciate it was mid February but it would have been a lovely touch if the heating had have been on for our arrival. The second reason, very small, (it can be the small things that make a difference.) The soap dispenser in the bathroom was empty. The towels were flimsy and seemed really budget which is not in the style of the rest of the cottage. As I say they are small things but it just cheapened the experience and it felt a bit miserly. As I said, the cottage is beautiful and location is fab. …
