The Cotswolds region

Tetbury is in the cotswold area of outstanding natural beauty and the landscape is a combination of rolling pasture land famous for its dry stone walls. The walls and roofs of barns and cottages have always been built with the local stone and, as a result, seem to grow out of the land.

There are stately homes to visit like Chavenage as well as pretty villages with rows of stone cottages like those in Minchinhampton, Easton grey or Tetbury's Chipping Steps. The famous Cotswold Way, a 5 day walking trail that passes within 7 miles of Tetbury, is quite stunning with its views over sheep- grazed valleys into villages like Uley and Horsley and eventually into the wonderful crescents and terraces of the Georgian city of Bath.

Beautiful buildings and farmland combine easily around these two 2 market towns which are less than 10 minutes from Doughton. 40 minutes away is either Bath, Bristol, or Cheltenham. Each very popular for shopping ,sight -seeing,concerts and theatre, but each also has something unique: Cheltenham, its famous racing festival in March, Bristol, the SS Great Britain and wonderful children's museums (@Bristol) and Bath, the newly refurbished Roman Baths and tea rooms made famous by Jane Austen's novels.

The National Arboretum at Westonbirt [3 mins drive] is a wonderful place to spend the day in every season of the year.

Visit the Abbey Gardens in Malmesbury, wonderful in late summer and autumn and the Badminton International Horse Trials[10 minutes drive] are held in the grounds of the Duke of Beaufort's well- run country estate, in May.

"An excellent"

The accomodation was fabulous; a huge cottage that comfortably accomodated my family and extended family. The cottage is gorgeous and the setting idyllic and ideal for families. We had a super few days and were greeted with a very tasty homemade cake when we arrived making us feel very welcome indeed.

"We could have stayed for ever!"

If you are looking for a relaxing weekend away in the Cotswold with family or friends, look no further. Dovecote is fantastic! A beautiful barn, renovated to a very high standard, very light and spacious, with everything you could possibly need. Perfect for the family pet with the small enclosed garden at the back, and ideal as well for any small child who will love the horses and the ducks outside the front door waiting for their bread! The owners are so welcoming and we tucked into the scrumptious cake left for us when we arrived! Happy days spent roaming around Tetbury, a ride in a big pink taxi to The Vine Tree one evening, walks from the farm, albeit very muddy on a bitterly cold weekend, and then back to the roaring log fire! You really could not wish for anything more. The whole family loved it there and we can't wait to return! Thank you Sue and Rob!

"A very comfortable cottage suitable for a mixed age group."

We stayed at Dovecote with extended family and friends and had an excellent week. The attractive bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and downstairs toilet made life easy for a family group as did the well equipped kitchen. The patio/garden area is very secure for young children. The helpful owners live on the spot so there was no hunting around for the keyholder on the first day and they provided a cake on arrival and fresh eggs during the week. The farm location is quiet with lovely walks straight from the front door. You do need a car to see the countryside and get to Tetbury 2 miles away which has good shops and pubs and restaurants. A really stress -free week's holiday enjoyed by all ages.

"The owners thought of everything;the most perfect holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in"

Our family group included my daughter and her newborn son and a toddler, my 87 year old wheelchair bound mother and her sister, my husband and myself, and my son. Could have been a disaster if the cottage had not worked out so perfectly. The easy layout, the garden, the ease of access, the farm environment, all contributed greatly to our enjoyment. Everything was so convenient - including the location, with Tetbury so close, lovely countryside, so many places within easy reach such as Bath. Everything we could possibly need was provided, and none of us wanted to leave!

"Beautiful accommodation, extremely well equipped & lovely location"

We stayed her with family and friends for the weekend. So pleased when we arrived as the house was pristine and there lovely home baked cake awaiting. The bedrooms were extremely well appointed and modern bathrooms. The kitchen was a home from home and had everything we needed. The barn is close warm and had a great open fire in the sitting room. Close to Tetbury and surrounding Cotswolds it was perfect walking out to a pub lunch. We would not hesitate to stay again. Thanks to Rob & Sue (owners)
