The Cheshire region
Chester is within easy driving distance of the North Wales countryside and coast. The city also makes a convenient base for exploring the Wirral Peninsular, and visiting Liverpool and Manchester.
Chester is a beautiful old English city with a unique walled centre. It is situated in the North West of England on a loop in the river Dee.
The city is rich in history from it's days as an ancient Roman port to it's medieval buildings which give the city centre it's uniquely English character. These buildings now house a wealth of shops, cafes and restaurants, making Chester a great place for a weekend city break.
Chester is famous for it's race course, one of the oldest in England, which still holds regular race meetings throughout the season.
Chester is also home to the UK's number one zoo, set in award winning gardens and a short drive or bus ride from the city centre.
Baker's cottage is in a quiet residential area with a wide mix of housing stock as you might expect in an area convenient to a city centre. A short walk brings you to the local shops, pubs and cafes of Handbridge. You can cross the river by the Old Dee bridge or Queen's Park footbridge which bring you to the city walls, just half a mile from the cottage.
The city's pubs, cafes and restaurants begin there and the main shopping area starts around the junction with Pepper Street which is 0.6 miles away. The Cross, which is generally accepted as marking Chester city centre, is 0.8 miles which, at average walking speed is about 15 minutes from the house. Many of our previous guests rate the location of the cottage as one of its most memorable features.
Although it is easily walkable, we appreciate that guests may not want to walk after a long day's shopping or late at night and if that is the case we recommend using one of the reasonably priced and reliable local taxi firms (we provide their phone numbers in the cottage).

"Wonderful stay, warm and friendly perfect for our family"
We had a wonderful stay in Bakers cottage. It had everything we needed and lots more. Close to the city centre which was perfect when we were reliant on walking or buses to get around. The local shops offered all we needed for self catering, and a variety of restaurants, cafes and pubs in close proximity were perfect too. We travelled from Adelaide, Australia to spend time with friends living nearby and they were also very impressed with the quality of the cottage. The communication when booking was excellent and followup when we left my husbands wedding ring behind was really appreciated We highly recommend Bakers Cottage.

"Gorgeous, Cosy, memorable stay in October"
My husband and I stayed at Bakers Cottage for a long weekend with friends. From the moment we emailed the owner, Jo, our experience could not have been better. Jo was quick to get back to us, meticulous in providing us with all the information we needed regarding our stay, and altogether lovely to book through. As far as the cottage goes, I cannot praise it enough. The home is decorated beautifully- lots of lovely little touches that you usually do not get when renting a holiday home. The cottage has absolutely everything you would need from DVD's and games, to books, toys, twinkly lanterns and even a lovely chilled bottle of wine in the fridge! The heart of the cottage is the dining kitchen, which is a wonderfully comfy place to sit, chill out, chat and eat dinner. I imagine that in the summer months, it is lovely to sit with the doors open onto the private yard outside. The location of the cottage is perfect- a genuine 10 minute stroll into the city centre. However, there are plenty of lovely, local cafes and pubs- The Ship Inn beside the river, and a particular mention to the 'Brown Sugar' cafe, just a 5 minute walk towards town, the owners were welcoming and the food was delicious- we had a lovely sunday morning brunch there. Handbridge has a lovely village type feel to it. In summary, my husband, friends and I had a really wonderful stay here. Thankyou Jo, we will definately return!

"What an amazing find."
We met my son & his girlfriend at the cottage and had the most relaxing weekend. I agree with all the other reviews - it is well equiped, very cosy, within walking distance from Chester, nicely decorated and free parking. We have already recommended the cottage to friends and hope to return one day soon.

"Lovely appointed cottage, walking distance to city"
We were a party of 3 adult women and hired the cottage for a week. The cottage is very well appointed and is very close to city of Chester. We hired a car for 3 of our days we were there and did some day trips into North Wales. Very easy to navigate and wondeful scenery in North Snowdonia. Lot of things to do and see. City of Chester is beautiful, very picturesque and historic. We caught a train back to London.

"Brilliant, well organised holiday letting for a great family holiday."
Baker's cottage is ideally situated for all that Chester has to offer. Perfect for a family holiday. The cottage is lovely, and even comes with games, books, dvds etc . The owners have organised the cottage perfectly with lots of info to help make the stay as easy and comfortable as possible. Jo was very approachable and happy to be contacted with any questions. I would not hesitate to recommend this rental to any friends or family looking for somewhere to stay in Chester.

"Pleasant surprise - so cozy and comfortable"
My husband, 4-year-old and I stayed at Baker's Cottage for two weeks during April/May. My husband was working outside Manchester which wasn't a difficult commute from the cottage at all (plenty of family day-trip activities to do in Manchester and Knutsford ie Tatton Park, also). The cottage was so well equipped with toys, games, books and DVDs that I struggled to pull my daughter out every day. I can't blame her though, everything I needed for a comfortable stay was well provided, too! We especially loved the open fireplace in the cozy loungeroom. Baker's cottage, based in Handbridge, is a short stroll to some wonderful pubs, convenience stores, a fabulous coffee shop, and a suburb butcher and green-grocer. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. We really felt at home here.

"A clean, comfortable, well-equipped home-from-home."
Just had our second stay at Baker's Cottage during half-term week. Once again, we found the cottage to be clean, comfortable and very well-equipped for our stay - lots of extras such as books, games and DVDs as well as very useful information folders. A welcome basket of basic provisions, together with milk and butter in the fridge, was left for our arrival. Baker's Cottage is ideally situated for visiting Chester which is only a 15 minute stroll across the river. Also well situated for visiting Liverpool and North Wales. Liverpool worth visiting if you haven't been - new Liverpool Museum opened July 2011 is one of the best museums we have been to. Train links from Chester in to Liverpool so no need to use the car if you don't want to. Sights worth visiting in Chester include the Roman wall, amphitheatre and Cathedral plus many more. Plenty of places to eat within a wide range of prices. Lots to see and do for all the family. Thank you Jo and Peter for sharing your home. We have family in the area so will certainly be back again.

"Perfect accommodation for two couples"
This townhouse-type property provided a perfect place for two Canadian couples to bed down. Very pleased with the quality of the beds and bedding. Very clean. Very quiet. Great location - 20 minute walk to downtown Chester, easy access to roads leading to all parts of England. Excellent location if you want to make one place your home and travel daily to visit other places (Liverpool, Stoke-on-Trent, Warrington, Manchester, Wales, etc). There was nothing we needed other than what was provided (the drawers were literally little treasure chests!). Lots of parking space for our car. Nice neighborhood - absolutely no problem walking around at night. Also impressed with the number of child-friendly items on hand. Highly recommend!

"Lovely cottage in a great location."
We stayed in the cottage during July with our two sons. All the rooms in the cottage were clean and well equipped, in addition to the items you would expect to be provided with there were also board games and a selection of books and DVD's for guests to make use of. We barely used our car during our stay as the cottage is within easy walking distance of Chester. Close to the cottage there are a number of small shops and eating places with a wider variety of restaurants in Chester. Chester is a delight, there are so many things to do and places to see. We spent a very pleasant afternoon next to the river watching the world go by after walking around the city walls. I'd love to visit Chester again and I would happily stay in this cottage if/when we return.
