Romantic, magical , cottage retreat - Dane cottage,Wincle, Peak District
The cottage is fantastic, it had everything and more than we needed. It is so peaceful, the views are just gorgeous. Cannot recommend highly enough. Of all the holiday rentals we have stayed in, this is without doubt the best and one we hope to return to. …
Wonderful stay at Otters Retreat
A friendly and accommodating welcome awaited us from Angela upon our arrival. Well actually, I believe we were welcomed from Nancy the Puppy first!
The cottage was just as it appeared on the website pristine cozy warm and very welcoming. Angela had provided us with a home backed tea loaf, butter, eggs, and chocolates to complete the welcome.
This was a perfect retreat for our 3 night stay with walks on the doorstep. Bedrooms are spacious with beautiful en-suites boasting wonderful views across the fields and hillside.
This is a place you can definitely relax and unwind after a days hiking. There are games books maps and info at hand with even a basket of wool and knitting for you to try out!. Angela is there to answer any queries and help with anything you need. We were without power late one night and it was too late to let her know so we told her the following morning and the electrican was there sorting it out super fast and we were back in business.
There’s a brewery and great pub within walking distance but be prepared for the steep hill.
A gem of a place and one which I hope to return to one day. You can’t go wrong here. My friend and I loved it. Could not have been better.
Thank you Angela and Ian
Sorry we didn’t get to meet you Ian. Maybe next time! …
Hen Cloud Shepherd Hut, Whitelee Farm, Wincle, Peak District
Peace and tranquility
We stopped in hen cloud, and were met by Emma the owner who can’t do enough for you The shepherds hut was beautiful, it had everything you could need. Every detail was of a high standard; it was comfortable and cosy, with the log burner it heated very efficiently and stayed warm. The views from the hut were breathtaking, I could sit on the porch all day admiring it.
If you want to get back to nature and away from the conformities of modern life this is the place to go!
Waking up in the morning to the sound of pheasants and bird song, the walk down to the river behind the farm is beautiful and if you are lucky you might see some deer like we did!
The general area has lots of hiking routes to explore...the Roaches, hanging stone, Luds church. The local pub (the Ship inn) is quaint and serves good food and Winkle brewery is a must to visit for a pint or a coffee on the way back from your trekking.
We will most definitely be visiting again, highly recommend visiting here. …
