Description

"Fairways", is our luxurious and cosy 3 bed Scandinavian pine lodge which is superbly equipped and probably the best positioned lodge on the site.

Hartland Forest is set in a glorious unspoilt location, away from it all and offers an ideal setting for enjoying truly relaxing holidays. Set off the North Atlantic Highway between Bideford and Bude, the park is set on a 114 acre site amidst unspoilt rolling countryside and moorland, on the edge of Hartland Forest. Its not unusual to see woodpeckers , pheasants, deer and an abundance of birds around the lodge.

Situated in an peaceful and idyllic setting within Hartland Forest , Fairways is an ideal base to explore the North Devon and Cornish coastline, or simply to relax on our large and private decked area enjoying the surrounding countryside. It is well insulated with thermostatically controlled radiators, you'll find it's warm and cosy even in the depths of winter and it's very spacious, too.

The England region

Woolsery

Hartland Forest is set on the Atlantic coast of North Devon which is steeped in a tradition of smuggling and famous for its timeless fishing villages , including Clovelly which is just 5 miles away , renowned the world over for its flower strewn cottages and steep cobbled footpath falling to the 14th century harbour.

Lundy Island can be visited by boat from Clovelly or Bideford quay and is populated by just a few souls, many seals and rare puffins.

Dramatic Hartland Quay at the foot of very steep cliffs where there is a small shipwreck museum and Hartland Point further round the bay are both landmarks on the edge of this lovely village.

For garden and historic house enthusiasts visit Hartland Abbey, Tapeley House and Gardens , National Trust Arlington Court , RHS Rosemoor Gardens , Marwood Gardens and the Eden Project which is just over an hour's drive.

The Atlantic Village on the outskirts of Bideford offers retail therapy and Dartington Crystal at Torrington is worth a visit. There are many local potteries and craft studios to be found in surrounding villages.

Just a short drive along the Cornish coast is Tintagel (King Arthur legend), Port Isaac (Doc Martin is shot here) and Padstow with a lovely harbour, famous for its association with Rick Stein and a former home of Sir Walter Raleigh. Just past Padstow is Watergate Bay , home to Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant, which is worth a visit, but booking is recommended in the peak season.

There are many very good local beaches and sandy too including Sandymouth Bay , Duck Pool , Bucks Mill , Bude , Northcott Mouth , Crooklets , Summerleaze and Widemouth Bay , Westward Ho! , Instow , Braunton and Saunton Sands. Surfing is very popular at many local beaches - British Surfing Association approved tuition is available at many of these including Bude and Widemouth Bay.

At Tamar Lakes there is a water sports centre offering sailing , windsurfing and canoeing . Rowing boats are also available for hire. Sea shore fishing is accessible from many places including Clovelly , Hartland Quay and Appledore and sea fishing trips go out from Clovelly. Wreck diving is available off Lundy.

“Excellent lodge with all you could ask for.”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2014

Very well equipped lodge travelled with partner and our 3 teenagers . Unfortunately the weather let us down but the fact the lodge was so homely it did not spoil our stay. Would have been disappointed if I had taken my golf clubs as it was shut.

“Simply glorious..”

I can say without a shadow of doubt that our stay at Fairways was sublime. From the moment that we stepped through the door at the beginning of the week until the moment that we left, we have not wanted for anything - there was never a moment when we thought 'wouldn't it be nice if we had ...' The facilities in the lodge are absolutely first class and the location itself is peaceful and restive after a tough day on the beach, nicely removed from the main thoroughfare but not miles from anywhere that you would wish to visit. All in all absolutely brilliant - it received the vote of our best ever family holiday !!

“Peace”

A lot of effort has gone into the details while preserving a functional and comfortable living environment. Specifically, the: - easy parking, - lack of clutter/clear floorspaces, - provision of kitchen/bathroom consumables, - supply of towels/linen, - actual functioning internet access, - new appliances, - fairly child-safe layout, and - expansive decking were appreciated. There are other cabins on the site, located between forest and a golf course. The cabins are far apart enough so you can sit out and appreciate some open space and views. Then sit on the sofas and watch the evening draw in through floor to ceiling glass all around while savouring some wine. You need a car; we like this place because it is isolated - you would not walk to a pub or shop. Nice beaches, shops, pubs, chip shops are a 10-15min drive along narrow country roads. So is Clovelly (look it up, worth a visit for families). You can't hear traffic here. Nice woods to walk around. If you want to get away and feel isolated with your boy/girlfriend, some friends or a young family, we recommend.
