Location description from owner

The England region

This region of North Devon and Cornwall is beautiful and unspoilt, it's a bit off the beaten track. However it's ideally situated to explore most of Devon and Cornwall. Bude is less than half an hour away and just a little further are the picturesque villages of Tintagel and Boscastle. Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and Exmoor are all within an hours drive away. The Eden Project and Heligan are both less than 1.5 hours away. All within easy day trip distance.

Welcombe

The local beaches are great for families and surfers and many allow dogs, especially out of season. The coastal views are stunning and the inland countryside gentle and green with many wild flowers, especially in the Spring. The area is ideal for walkers with a network of footpaths and lanes, especially the next valley which is a nature reserve and is really beautiful. The South West Coast Path is easily accessible from Little Nod and there are 2 really good walks, in either direction, both ending near pubs. There are lots of good places to eat out, with the wonderful Old Smithy Inn literally on the doorstep. There are other pubs nearby and 3 takeaways in Kilkhampton (Pizza, Chinese and Fish & Chips). Bude has a good selection of restaurants. There are lots of childrens' activities, if the weather is bad, swimming pools, bowling, soft play zones and attractions like The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and The Gnome Reserve, all within half an hours drive away. There are lovely gardens to visit at Docton Mill, RHS Rosemoor, Tapeley Park and the historic Hartland Abbey. The Old Smithy has regular Quizzes, Jam nights, Folk nights and Party nights with live music. There are sometimes activities in the village hall such as films, live theatre or music and childrens' activities. There is also a childrens' playground beside the hall and an area of public woodland behind it. There is a village shop and also a small working pottery. Just beyond Bude there is an excellent small cinema that shows all the latest films. I usually have the week's programme for visitors when they arrive. There are theatres at Torrington and Barnstaple and several small local museums and art galleries.
