Description

Pet friendly and with free WiFi, 'Fossils Reach' is situated on a quiet part of the holiday park. It's not overlooked, and has a grassed area to the front with sea glimpses viewed through the trees. Local wildlife includes rabbits, foxes, pheasants and the occasional red squirrel!

'Fossils Reach' is less than 100 metres from the coastal path that leads down to the glorious sandy beach, completely unspoiled and fronting the fossil filled cliffs. There are even dinosaur trace fossils to be found in the sand! This beach is dog friendly all year round and an excellent spot for budding paleontologists!

On arrival, you will be welcomed with a complementary basket of local goodies and a few essentials - always useful, especially if your ferry is overnight!

The chalet has a selection of family friendly DVDs, books and games. We also provide a basic cleaning pack, a bathmat and tea towels.

The beds are made up ready for your arrival with fresh duvets, pillows and linen.

'Fossils Reach' is a brick built, double glazed, modern, contemporary furnished holiday chalet .The open plan lounge/kitchen/diner is furnished with a two seater sofa, a two seater sofa bed, a dining table with four chairs and a flat screen TV with Freeview, DVD and CD. We have also connected free WiFi for the season.

The modern fitted kitchen has a full size cooker, fridge, microwave and is fully equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The modern tiled bathroom has an electric shower and the chalet is fitted with electric radiators.

Bedroom 1 has a full size double bed with memory foam mattress and Bedroom 2 has twin bunk beds. We can also provide a travel cot, high chair, baby bath and baby gates on request.

The chalet will comfortably fit 4/5 although 6 people can be accommodated. (We also have a second chalet, "Fossils Rest" that caters for up to 3 guests so a larger party can all stay with us).

Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.

Although there are no facilities on the holiday park, it is just a short walk to the lovely seaside town of Sandown with all that you may need.

In the Bay there are a wide variety of water sports for all ages and abilities including kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, windsurfing and fishing.

Sandown has a wonderful Victorian Pier, Dinosaur Isle, amusements, play parks, mini golf and of course the fantastic Sandown Zoo which has a world renowned conservation programme.

The Esplanade offers the opportunity to have a bracing walk along the revetment all the way to the lovely quaint seaside town of Shanklin, There are many opportunities along the way to enjoy a coffee and a cake at one of the sea front cafes. Sandown has pubs, cafes and restaurants, many with live music and the chance to eat alfresco whilst watching the waves.

'Fossils Reach' is an ideal base to explore the Island either by car or public transport. There is a bus stop with a regular service which is just outside the park entrance. Perhaps take in the sights such as Carisbrooke Castle and Queen Victoria's favourite residence Osborne House. The Steam Railway at Havenstreet is popular with all ages, and the country parks, Robin Hill and Blackgang Chine will keep the children happy for hours.

It is also an ideal base for a walking or cycling holiday, with miles of Island off road footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways.

Getting around

If you wish to leave your car by the chalet and explore on foot or by bike there are miles of off road footpaths, bridleways and cycle paths right across the Island, starting with the coastal path right on your doorstep! To explore by public transport, there is a bus stop at the entrance to the park. There is also a train route from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin with the nearest station 3km away at Sandown. You will find details in the chalet for recommended walks and cycle routes to suit all levels of fitness, together with maps of the Island, bus, train and tide timetables.

Interaction with guest

A very warm welcome to Fossil's Reach! We love the outdoor life and being surrounded by nature, and trust that a holiday here will inspire you too. The Barkers have recently bought and re furbished two beautiful chalets here on the cliffs above Sandown Bay and aim to provide a comfortable home from home for you.. One of our first priorities has been to install free wifi in both chalets for our guests. As dog lovers, we appreciate being able to take our pet away with us and so our chalets are dog friendly. Please just let us know that your dog is coming too. We look forward to welcoming you on your arrival at Fossil's Reach and as we live in nearby Godshill, we will be available to help and advise during your stay. Diane and Ian Barker.
