“Fantastic Place”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2016

Thank you to Madeleine and Fred for your warm welcome and spending time showing us and our kids around your farm. The barn conversion was comfortable and clean and a great space for our family. The local area has alot of days out. We would happily return and recommend your property for a relaxing holiday.

Thanks for this lovely review. We enjoy having such well behaved and interested children (and adults!) staying here so your stay was a pleasure for us. Thank you.

“Stunning setting for the perfect holiday with a difference!”

Reviewed 7 Aug 2016

My family and I had the most wonderful week at the Games Barn. The setting is idealic with rolling hills, magnificent woodlands and the meandering stream trickling by. The barn itself is spacious and welcoming. With its own fenced garden and decking areas, it was a fantastic place to take in the surrounding countryside. Small lambs, piglets, cows and ducklings all visible from your home from home. We took our two small children who had a fantastic week feeding the animals, collecting eggs and getting involved in farm life. Madeleine and Fred were incredibly generous with their time and the girls loved spending time with them. The Games Barn is a super place to stay. A holiday with a difference. Everyday we were our exploring the 30 acres, each day with new surprises. One of which were the frogs we found on the top field. One of our daughters made it her mission to find as many as possible, finding over 50 during our stay! Whilst staying at the farm we were able to buy meat and eggs from Madeleine and Fred which was simply scrumptious. Some of the finest we have ever tasted! A truly magical week. The Games Barn is a beautiful place to stay and is a wonderful place for a family holiday. Would definitely recommend.

What a lovely review - thanks very much. We always try to find time for everybody that stays here and greatly enjoyed your company while feeding, mucking out etc. We very much hope to see you again soon.

“Great for kids”

“Real Value for Money”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2016

We looked for a long time for an affordable place to stay in East Sussex and found the Games Barn offering a good deal for 7 people staying in four bedrooms with two large bathrooms (one suitable for handicaped people). As we live in the middle of the town we loved staying on the farm. The information file in the house is the best I have ever read (and we have stayed in selfcatering accommodation for more than thirty years). The electric cooker, oven, dishwasher, fridge and freezer all worked perfectly and there were enough good pots and pans to cook for seven people. Something we rarely found in other British houses. Loads of books, games and videos if the weather is not so good. Really good!

Thanks very much for this review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We greatly enjoyed your company here and hope to see you again soon.

“Wonderful holiday on a working farm”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2016

We had a wonderful half-term holiday at the Games Barn in the week leading up to a family wedding. There was plenty of room for 8 people, making it an ideal place for family get-togethers, and is perfect for all ages, in our case grandparents to children of 8 and 3. The Barn is in a lovely position about one mile by foot from Mayfield, and guests are welcome to wander in the 30 acres of fields and woods. The highlight for us and the reason that we chose a working farm holiday, was to see and have contact with the farm animals. In this is was more than we had hoped for as Madeleine and Fred genuinely welcomed our interest and involvement. The children loved helping to feed the animals morning and evening, and to collect the eggs still warm from the nest boxes. We were also lucky enough to be there in a week in which 3 litters of piglets were born. Thank you Madeleine and Fred for a lovely peaceful holiday. We hope to be back again soon.

Thanks for this review. We are so glad you enjoyed yourselves and from our perspective, we greatly enjoyed your company. We hope to see you again soon.

“warm English hospitality at countyside”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2013

We enjoyed our week at The Games Barn, felt like coming home to friendly, open and interesting hosts in a spacious comfortable house. The farm was an adventure for town peoples, like we are and it was calming to see the sheep and cows on the Meadows. The farm had a good location to discover Kent and East Sussex.

Thanks. We are very glad that, having come all this way, you enjoyed your stay in England and we hope to see you all again sometime.

“ANOTHER WONDERFULLY SPECIAL STAY...”

Reviewed 15 Apr 2013

We were very lucky to stay at The Games Barn again over Easter. Just as before we found the farm a home from home - packed ALOT less toys for the children as you simply dont need much, what with all the games in the barn and a wonderful farm on your doorstep. Madeleine again was an absolute star, our children had such a wonderful time - my 6 year old daughter fed and helped out with the feed morning and afternoon and was given little 'jobs' ( my youngest was poorly so sadly couldnt participate an awful lot ) Mummy and Daddy loved heloing out too! This place has everything you need for a wonderful time. It's become a special place for us and our family and we cannot wait to return next year.

Thanks for this - we were delighted to see you all again and can't wait for you to come back.

“A perfect home from home farm experience for all ages!”

Reviewed 7 Jan 2013

We stayed here for the whole christmas week 2012 and had the most perfect time. Yes the weather was wet and miserable but this didnt matter at all - our 3 young girls and our parents all loved it equally and we are thrilled that we chose the games barn as the location for our first ever christmas away! The barn is so so well equipped with absolutely everything we needed and we instantly felt at home. My husband adored the log burning stove and was constantly making sure we were all warm and toasty. Madeleine and Fred could not have made us more welcome, in particular our girls, who were allowed to feed all the animals and collect the eggs every day. Such an experience eating them straight away for breakfast! Mayfield is also lovely and we had a wonderful family lunch at the Rose and Crown pub on Christmas eve - we were looked after so well and the food was delicious. My parents also ate out at the Middle House Hotel which they said was fantastic too! We ordered farm produce while we we were at the games barn, a leg of pork for christmas dinner and sausages too and we can honestly say they were the best we have ever tasted! Well done Fred and Madeleine, you are doing a fab job of creating somewhere relaxed and peaceful to stay that is perfect for all ages! We definitely want to return!

Thank you so much for this lovely review and we are very pleased that, despite the truly awful weather, you still managed to have a lovely holiday here. You are most welcome to return whenever you want to - we would love to see you all again .

“Perfect getaway, children loved helping around the farm”

Reviewed 16 Nov 2012

The barn is in a beautiful setting. The farm is home to some of the most charming animals we have ever met. My children (aged 9 and 11) truly enjoyed meeting up with Madeleine each morning and evening for feeding and learned so much about animal husbandry from her. Madeleine is a treasure who made the trip for my daughter whilst my son explored the nearby trails and woods. The cottage was comfortable and we all really enjoyed our stay.

Thanks so much for this review - your children are little treasures themselves and we are delighted they learnt so much from us. See you again soon we hope

“A little piece of heaven.”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2012

Having returned for the 2nd time we were not disappointed by our visit. Once again Madeleine and Fred were on hand to ensure our stay went as smooth as possible. They seem to have the perfect knack of being available when needed and always with a smile. On this trip to the games barn, as previously, it was very clean and tidy. The wood burner in the evening kept it lovely and warm and Fred was kind enough to provide plenty of wood for us and even show us how to light it. We went with Madeleine to feed the animals morning and evening, they are extremely well cared for. The ducks making their own way from the pond down into their overnight shed in the evening and back up to the pond again in the morning was such a cute sight. The new additions to the farm, 2 female black cows, were absolutely gorgeous. We even gave them a brush each which was a first for us. They are such placid creatures. As always, Chuo the dog kept us entertained (or maybe it was the other way round) with his endless throw and fetch game. Collecting the eggs each day was a thrill, how many would we find upon opening the hatch? And it was lovely to see the chickens wandering around the farm freely during the day. We even had 1 visit us outside the gamesbarn which is something this particular chicken often does. The adult pigs were as large as ever and the 2 litters of piglets were cute and vocal. I was impressed to see that Fred is building concrete feeding platforms for the pigs to eat their food off so that they will no longer have to dig around in the mud. The sheep were blissfully unaware of our presence being left to graze peacfully in their fields. The animals have an idyllic life. And it has to be said that the scenery is breathtaking and peaceful. It was bliss to stand on the decking in the morning and listen to the birds while taking in the lovely fresh air. I relaxed so much and truely didn't want to leave. Finally. we went into Heathfield to buy fish and chips from a shop recommended by Madeleine and Fred. The price was very reasonable and the food was excellent quality. Mayfield is a lovely little village but we got there a little late on the Saturday and found some shops had closed at 1pm so we drove in the opposite direction and had a wander around Heathfield. Except I couldn't wait to get back to the farm, I could shop any other day back at home!! We plan to return again next year and I can honestly say that I can't wait. To be able to unwind and feel so relaxed so quickly is testament to how lovely the games barn, the farm & it's animals and the surroundings are. And of course, the finishing touch is Madeleine's and Fred's welcome and care. I would highly recommend a visit especially if you need a much needed break away from things. To me it is a little piece of heaven. Thank-you Madeleine, Fred and Chuo. See you next year. xx

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review - we thoroughly enjoyed your company and would love to see you again next year for your 3rd visit. We know how lucky we are to have our own little piece of heaven here and love sharing it with people such as yourselves - it makes all our hard work so worthwhile. Thanks so much once again.
