Description

This one-bedroom holiday home is ideally placed in the middle of a strawberry farm within the picture-perfect village of West Peckham, with it's Saxon church, village green and pub, The Swan On The Green serving delicious, freshly-prepared food, excellent wines and real ale from it's own micro-brewery. Walkers will love Pear Tree Garden - it is situated directly on one of the most picturesque walks in the South East, Wealdway, which leads north to the Thames Estuary and south to Eastbourne, passing through the beautiful, historic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Imagine yourself waking in the big, circular bed and having your complimentary tea/coffee/toast on the patio, overlooking the Garden of England. Help yourself to pears when they are ripe! From here you can plan your day, taking a walk locally or driving further afield and, on your return, enjoying a barbecue with a glass of complimentary wine whilst watching the sun set. Honestly - Pear Tree Garden has the most exquisite

Maidstone, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks are between 15 to 30 minutes drive away. The M20 leading to London or Folkestone is just a few minutes away, as is the M26 leading to the M25. Don't worry though, they are far enough away so as not to hear them! There are some beautiful Kentish villages nearby and we recommend you visit them.

Trains to London Victoria or London Charing Cross take approximately 40 minutes from either Borough Green or Tonbridge stations.

Places of interest within one hour's drive of West Peckham:

10 minutes: Ightham Mote / Hop Farm Family Park

15 minutes: Tonbridge Castle / Haysden Country Park / Maidstone

20 minutes: Leeds Castle / Penshurst Place

20 minutes: Brands Hatch Motor Race Track

25 minutes: Historic Dockyard, Chatham / Rochester Cathedral and Castle / Knole Park / Sevenoaks / Royal Tunbridge Wells / Bluewater Shopping

30 minutes: Hever Castle / Groombridge Place / Tenterden / Bewl Water

45 minutes: Bodiam Castle

50 minutes: Whitstable

1 hour: Canterbury / Hastings / Rye / Folkestone / Eastbourne / Bexhill / Battle

There is plenty of golf locally. Ask Steve - an avid golfer! Haysden Country Park in Tonbridge has a wealth of activities including swimming in the indoor/outdoor pool, sailing, fishing and a children's play area. Mote Park in Maidstone has pitch & putt, a skatepark and a miniature railway on Sunday afternoons during the summer. Royal Tunbridge Wells is home to The Assembly Hall Theatre, The Historic Pantiles, The Spa Valley Railway and Dunorlan Park, plus much, much more! Sevenoaks has done it's best to avoid the modern world and has really quirky little areas, plus the wonderful Knole Park and Knole House, offering a magnificent National Trust stately home within the most beautiful parkland, abundant with free-roaming deer.

Location description from owner

The England region

Kent isn't called The Garden Of England for nothing. It truly is the most beautiful county with arguably the best weather in Great Britain. With easy access to London and Europe (what with the Eurotunnel being less than an hour away), but then, why would you want to leave? Kent is peppered with gorgeous, picture-worthy hamlets and villages yet there are several large towns for a spot of retail therapy! Historic towns such as Canterbury and Rochester with their magnificent cathedrals and castles really should be on your "to do" list, along with Royal Tunbridge Wells where you can still drink the spa water that so impressed visitors such as Queen Anne, Queen Victoria, Samuel Pepys and Daniel Defoe. And let's not forget Chartwell, the beloved home of Sir Winston Churchill. If you love oysters, a visit to Whitstable is a must, especially late July/early August when the famous Oyster Festival takes place. There is also a lovely pebbly beach here, Tankerton Beach with its brightly coloured beach huts and yachts bobbing on the sea. If you hop over into East Sussex you can visit Hastings, Rye and Battle, all very worthy of a day trip. For wine buffs there are several vineyards you can visit with award-winning wines to sample - hic! Honestly, There isn't enough room here to do the region justice. Make your own mind up when you come. You won't be disappointed!

Maidstone

The tiny village of West Peckham is situated so conveniently. Within just a few miles you can find plenty to keep you entertained. With theatres in Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells, cinemas in all three plus Tonbridge, parks, woodland, farmland, stately homes, castles, fabulous restaurants and gastro pubs....and the list goes on and on. Cricket on the village green is a regular occurrence, plus there is the occasional visit from Morris Dancers who perform outside The Swan On The Green. How English can you get?! The menu at The Swan changes regularly and everything is cooked from fresh. The River Medway runs close to West Peckham and, on a warm, sunny day, nothing is nicer than a stroll along the river bank. If you are a keen angler there is fishing in Yalding and Haysden Country Park. The Hop Farm Family Park has lots of things to do and see, including the Oast Houses where Londoners, from Victoria's day up to the late 1950s, would come hop picking for 6 weeks. The hops would then be used to make beer for Whitbread. They still grow hops here but for decorative use only now. You can buy a hop bine to adorn your house in September. You can reach the Hop Farm Family Park in 10 minutes from Pear Tree Garden.A 5-minute drive away on Seven Mile Lane is an excellent restaurant, The Moody Mare. They have regular live music too.In Hadlow, again only 5 minutes away, you can find local shops, a couple of pubs serving excellent food and a terrific Portuguese restaurant called Casa Portuguesa.Just through Hadlow is a farm shop attached to Hadlow Agricultural College selling local produce. In the Spring you can see hundreds of lambs frolicking in the fields. They organise special days when you can "meet the lambs". For keen golfers there are several excellent private and public golf courses nearby, the nearest being Wrotham Heath which is just 10 minutes away.If you are a motor racing fan, Brands Hatch is no more than 20 minutes away.
