Location description from owner

The England region

From Dover’s white cliffs to the historic and magnificent Canterbury cathedral to the new £18m Turner Gallery in Margate, there’s so much to see and do in the garden of England. You can shop on cobbled streets in Rye perched on a hill with a medieval church, beautifully preserved historic houses and a range of fine dining, experience safari adventures at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, taste wines and ciders at Biddenden Vineyards, family fun at the Hop Farm family park, admire brightly-colored orchards and beautiful countryside driving through Kent’s many little picture card villages, as well as visit impressive Bodiam and Leeds Castle for something a little more grand. There are more stately homes, castles and gardens in Kent and the surrounding area than in any other part of the UK. And if that isn’t enough, you can always pop over to France for lunch, which is only an hour away door to door with the Eurotunnel terminal only 7 miles away! The neighboring historic Cinque Port town of Hythe has a lovely high street with plenty of antique and small shops, restaurants as well as an antiques market at the Malt House . For antiques, good quality shopping, fine restaurants and a relaxing day out head to the historic spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells. Folkestone’s Creative Quarter is a hive of arty activity with galleries galore. Strollers will enjoy the mile-long Folkstone Leas promenade that overlooks the ocean, perhaps ending with dinner at the Grand Hotel . For something a little different, Dungeness Nature Reserve is a fascinating place with fishermen’s huts and the largest expanse of shingle in Europe - a haven for wildlife spotters. The local RHDR Railway is a 15" gauge main-line in miniature, built in 1927 with operating steam and diesel hauled trains - you can even drive it yourself! For rainy days and retail therapy, Ashford has a large outlet centre next to the International train station featuring shops like Ralph Lauren, Musto, Ted Baker, Henri Lloyd, Lacoste, Clarks, Benetton and Tommy Hilfiger .There are several golf courses nearby such as Littlestone Warren (British open qualify rounds), Lydd , Hythe Imperial or Sene Valley

Dymchurch

Dymchurch is a small village situated on the coast in between Hythe and New Romney. It has a fantastic beach, a childrens fairground, some shops, pubs and restaurants.

“Great family treat”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2016

I was a bit nervous by all the "hen do" like comments... But rest assured this property is ideal for a family get away too. Moments from the sandy beach, full of character, this property oozes charm and fun. The owners are very attentive and the stay has been a dream end to end. The kids love the sunshine room, coloured lights, cinema, decks, pretending to accept their guests at reception and even wash up with the authentic hotel kitchen feel. Dymchurch is full of old English charm, the railway is so much fun, a visit to the zoo and plenty of time for old fashioned penny slot machines too! Thoroughly recommend to anyone interested - incredible attention to detail throughout the property

“Fab weekend!!!”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2015

We were four ladies looking for a weekend away which was relaxing and fun and we couldn't have asked for more! On arrival Karl the owner was there waiting for us, such a nice friendly guy who made us feel very welcome while showing us around and how to use the sun room and DJ decks etc. The house itself is one of a kind and quite quirky, couldn't fault anything, the kitchen had EVERYTHING you could ever need, the beds were SOOO comfy. As for the SUN room we spent nearly all weekend there relaxing with cocktails and listening to music it does really feel like you are away on holiday.... Definately recommend this house for a fun weekend with the girls.

Wow thank you so much Rachel. Thrilled to hear you and the girls enjoyed your holiday in the "sun".. Hope we can welcome you back soon. Sunny regards, Louise, Karl and Mavis

“fantastic, relaxing holiday”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2015

A unique place to stay, right beside fabulous sandy beach which was empty even when weather was good. Could play cricket and build sandcastles all day. When the sun was not shinning could still catch the rays in the sun room, while the kids watched 3d films in the cinema!

So pleased to hear you enjoyed your weekend. The house and the area do indeed have a unique quality - not to mention the sunshine :) thanks again for visiting and your lovely sunny review. L x

“Who needs to fly when you have Mauritius/Miami/Bali here at the Beach Sun Retreat!”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2015

Thank you for a fantastic stay at the Beach Sun Retreat. We were met with a warm welcome from Karl along with a fabulous hamper. We had lots of fun staying at the property - lying in sun (indoors!), listening to tunes from the decks and sipping our drinks. Our daughter loved the cinema room and making popcorn. The bedrooms are striking and a combination of fresh sea air and comfortable beds meant we all slept so well. The jacuzzi bath was a bit hit with our daughter! Thanks again. We had a great time.

Jackie, thank you so much for your lovely sunny review. So happy to hear you and your family had a great time at our sunny retreat having Bali/Miami/Mautitus on speed dial without leaving the UK! Hope we can welcome you back another time soon! Thanks again Louise & Karl x

“AMAZING AMAZING HOUSE!”

Reviewed 23 May 2014

Wow what can I say! stunning house, sound system fantastic brought my innner DJ out. Bedrooms amazing with a big country house feel. Sadly weather let out down but gave us an excuse to use the real sun light inside. After a long weekend here I felt so relaxed and chilled would recommend for groups, families, celebrations etc. A tiny stroll brings you to the Ship Inn. Does not look much inside and out but the food was superb. Another small walk brings you to shops and cafes perfect for supplies.

Thank you Ian for your Amazing Amazing review. So pleased to hear your lovely comments and even better that your inner DJ came out! Hope we can welcome you and your family back for more good times soon :)

“Great accommodation and right by the beach”

Reviewed 15 May 2014

From booking to staying the whole experience was perfect. Staff are accommodating and professional and the property is something else! It is an experience that we will be repeating before the end of the year! The sun room was exactly as depicted only more luxurious than we had imagined and despite having great weather whilst staying we still made use of the Miami setting at every given opportunity. The bedrooms are beautiful and tastefully decorated and the en-suites are just as enjoyable. There is plenty of room for a larger group as we were just a couple and our puppy. Being able to take our dog was an added bonus and she found the accommodation and the extremely short walk to the beach great fun. The catering facilities are large and well stocked with everything you need to create both a quick bite and a large sit down meal. Having a huge American fridge with both fresh water and ice on tap is an added bonus. The cinema room is a great addition with 6 seats to sit an enjoy the huge selection of films provided. There is something for all age ranges to enjoy. Whilst we didn't use the decks much the set up was so good we could plug in our own player and listen to our choice of music throughout the week. The final superb addition to this property is the extremely short private access to the beach. We hadn't realised exactly how close until we wandered up the few steps and were right there, on the beach! This house has to be seen to be believed as it really is amazing and flexible. It is enjoyable both for a quiet retreat or a party weekend.

Hi Kara, thanks so much for your lovely review. We're so pleased you, your husband and Pepper enjoyed your time at our own little "Miami" Beach Resort. Fun in the "sun" and a short hop to the beach what more could anyone want :) We very much look forward to welcoming you back in September.

“Absolutely Awesome!!”

Reviewed 5 Apr 2014

This place is absolutely fantastic! From the moment you walk through the door, it's easy to see the entire place has been renovated to an extremely high level. The décor was so quirky and it had such a cool vibe. It was also a lot bigger than I expected. The bedrooms are of a good size, with the ensuite bathrooms uber luxurious. I had two of the best nights sleep of my life there as the beds were incredible! Everywhere was also absolutely spotless too. If you think the pictures on the website make it look good, it is even better when you get there. The staff I spoke with were so helpful, from initial booking of the rental, to checking in and explaining all of the equipment, to making sure we had all the essentials in the kitchen stocked up, just things like milk, pasta, bread, tea, coffee, dishwasher tablets etc. They had really thought of everything and tried to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The location is ideal, literally only a few steps from the beach. It's only a few minutes walk into the town where there are a few shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, everything you'd need for a few days by the sea. I travelled with 5 friends as part of a surprise birthday weekend away, and it was absolutely ideal. I can not recommend this place enough to host a party or an event of any kind. Equally, it would suit families wanting a week holiday in the UK, and with the sun room, it doesn't even matter if it's raining outside!

Awesome review. Thank you so much. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon for more sunshine and good times.

“Even better than we had imagined- amazing holiday house!!”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2014

I stayed in this house from the 28th-31st march with a group of seven ladies for a hen weekend. Although the website for this house looked great I was still a little apprehensive that it wouldn't quite look the same when we got there, But as soon as I stepped into the house I knew I had nothing to worry about...the house was amazing...so much better than I had imagined. We definitely felt like we were living in luxury for the weekend. From the elegant hallway as you walk in to the boudoir bedrooms and the spacious and modern living area. everything was perfect. All the rooms are spacious and at no point did we feel like we were living on top of one another. One of the best parts of the house is definitely the sun room. It felt like we were on a beach a million miles from England. You can choose your setting, whether you want to be in Miami, Mauritius or Bali, and the DJ decks and sound system made you feel like you were on a party island somewhere. We also made use of the cinema on the last evening and chose from a variety of DVDs that were left at the house. The actual television screen isn't massive but it was fine for what we needed. The kitchen had all we needed and more, we didn't cook any meals in the house but it certainly has everything you would need if you wanted to. The house is on the beach front and we were lucky enough to have some sunshine so enjoyed a walk along the beach to the amusements. They're very cheesy as some sea side towns are but we had a lot of fun. We also found a lovely tea room called Mary's which is just on the right hand side as you come out of the street. I would definitely recommend popping in for tea and cake!! There's a fish and chip shop, Indian and Chinese in the town....walking distance or two minutes in the car. We only used the Chinese and it was lovely so again I'd recommend if you fancy a take away. On the Saturday night we got a taxi into Maidstone and had an amazing night out!! It's definitely worth going if your looking for bars and clubs. The mercury spa is lovely and only 15 minutes away, we spent a day there and came away feeling very relaxed. The only thing that I would say if that in one of the master bedrooms there is a lovely jacuzzi bath, but it takes a very long time to fill it up, So if you plan on using it start early! But if that's the only thing I picked up on over the whole weekend then I don't think that's bad. I couldn't recommend this house to you any more, it's just fantastic. My friend certainly had a hen weekend she will never forget!! I will definitely be recommending the Beach Sun Retreat to friends and family and would love to come back again in the future! :)

Thanks Stephanie for your superb review. We are thrilled you girls had a great time on our "party island" and would love to welcome you back next time you feel like some fun or indeed a little R&R :)

“A big surprise - different - well worth a trip!”

This fabulously furnished house very much enhanced our family get-together. Plenty of space in the living areas, meant we could all pursue our different hobbies without being on top of each other. Best of course is the sun room where we girls chilled out while the guys were creating a fab meal in the well equipped kitchen. Big thank you for letting us share your beautiful home.

Family time is special time. So pleased you and yours enjoyed our sunny retreat - sunshine 24/7/365!

“AMAZING PLACE! Unique, eccentric and perfect getaway for friends”

Reviewed 3 Jun 2013

Me and my girlfriends came here from East London for a weekend away and had a total blast! The decks and the sound system is amazing and the main beack area is a hoot! The kitchen is really well equipped for a party of six and is a perfect setting for big meals, great chats and a spot of dancing! Moreover you're right by the real sea too and although it's not the MOST pituresque of towns, Dimchurch has access to a cute model railways and lots of nearby pubs. My advice is get the food delivered and spend all weekend just lounging about and eating and drinking too much as well as reap the soothing rewards of the indoor beach!

So pleased you East London girls enjoyed your stay. Our sunny retreat is the perfect place for good times with friends & family!
