The Farmhouse kitchen is very well equipped with an electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, and a traditional Rayburn stove for hot water & slow cooking. There is a stable door to a private enclosed garden with a picnic table and stone built-in BBQ. There is a large utility room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and a downstairs WC. Upstairs are three bedrooms; a double, a twin, and a king-sized (or twin utilising a ziplink bed); and a bathroom and separate shower room, both with WC's.

Beside the Farmhouse are three acres of wildlife grounds, ideal for families and dogs. There is a large wild-flower meadow, several lawned and wooded areas, a wildlife pond, lots of birds and butterflies and a delightful walk up and around Humphrey's Hill.

The Farmhouse and grounds are very child friendly. We can provide a cot, high chair, fire guard and stair gate (if required) and within the grounds is a large children's play area comprising two towers linked with a bridge, a swing, slide, climbing board, climbing net, fireman's pole, ladder, periscope and driving wheel. Beside the play area is a sheltered arbour seat with lovely views for the grown-ups.

John & Melanie are usually on-site from 9am to 5pm every day and are very happy to advise you to help you get the very most from your stay, and to provide additional services (e.g. child-minding, breakfast, bed-making and cleaning) - please look at the Availability tab for more details.

Within 300 yards of the Farmhouse is an excellent pub with award-winning food and real ales, and a handy shop and Post Office, with delicious cream teas and home-made cakes.

The village of Challacombe is very friendly towards visitors, has excellent local walks and is in an ideal central location from which to explore the heart of Exmoor, the sandy beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde, and the rocky coves of the North Devon & Somerset coast.

The Farmhouse is the largest of five holiday cottages at Exmoor Cottage Holidays and has recently been renovated with new kitchen, shower-room and double-glazing. There are four other cottages, also listed in this website, with one to three bedrooms, surrounding a peaceful courtyard. John and Melanie look forward to welcoming you to Exmoor.

We came for a wedding and the cottage helped us relax, there are fantastic walks and Humphrey Hill is just behind the cottage so that was wonderful for our 2 dogs.Melanie was very welcoming and friendly, would definitely go again.

Thank you for your kind review. We are really glad you had a good wedding and enjoyed the local walks. We look forward to welcoming you again.

“Home from home”

Reviewed 6 May 2014

We stayed in the farmhouse ,which was a little big for 2 was extremely comfortable ,with everything you could possibly need and a little bit more ,it was quiet and beautiful with extensive gardens all around .when you arrive you enter to a warm kitchen heated by an arga which our 2 dogs did not leave after long walks in ex moor .Callacombe is perfectly placed to explore all of ex moor we did some of the best walks we have ever done .At the end of an exhausting day you can go to the local pub the Black Venus which is 2 minutes walk away does some of the best pub food We have ever eaten especially the fish dishes ,also dogs made to feel very welcome . A wonderful weekend had by all many thanks especially from Kiara and Bertie

Thank you for your great review. We are glad that you had a comfortable stay (and your dogs too - in front of the range in the kitchen is a great place for a doggy snooze). The walks on Exmoor are spectacular and having an excellent pub just a short stroll away is a bonus. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
