Description
Step back in time and relax beside the kitchen Rayburn or the huge inglenook fireplace in this charming C16th Farmhouse at Exmoor Cottage Holidays, ideal for families and pets. The comfortable Farmhouse has a peaceful village location and offers spacious accommodation, character features, enclosed gardens front & rear, a large children's playground and is just five minutes walk from a shop & pub.
The Farmhouse (known as "Town Tenement Farm") has the special atmosphere of a building that has been lived in for a long time, but with double-glazing and all modern comforts. There is plenty of space downstairs with a separate dining room, kitchen, sitting room and laundry room/WC. The large sitting room has an impressive stone inglenook fireplace (with bread oven & smoker) and multi-fuel stove, comfortable leather seating & Freeview TV. The panelled dining room has a lovely oak dining table perfect for family dinners, and a sofa and a second Freeview TV (so no arguments over what to watch!).
The Farmhouse kitchen is very well equipped with an electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, and the added luxury of a traditional Rayburn cooker. There is a stable door to a lovely private enclosed garden with a picnic table and BBQ, ideal for al fresco dining. There is also a large utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer, iron & ironing board and downstairs WC. Upstairs are three bedrooms; a double, a twin, and a king-sized (or twin utilising a ziplink bed); and a bathroom and separate shower room, both with WC's.
No-one can get bored at the Farmhouse. If the free WiFi and nearly 100 Freeview TV channels aren't enough there are many books, games & DVD's, and three acres of grounds to explore (with wild-flower meadow, wildlife pond, and large children's play area with two towers, bridge, swing, slide, climbing board & net, fireman's pole, etc). Watch the birds in the front garden under the magnificent Wisteria, or enjoy a family picnic in the grounds which has lovely views of Exmoor.
A cot, high chair, fire guard and stair gate are available free of charge, and towel sets are available for hire (£5 per set of bath towel and hand towel). Dogs are very welcome (£18 per stay for each dog) and there is a lovely walk through the grounds where they can run off-lead. Hand-soap, cleaning materials and tea towels are provided, and a welcome pack with many essentials (until you can get to a shop) including a basket of logs & kindling, tea, coffee, sugar, fresh milk, bin bag, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner & matches.
The Farmhouse is in the quiet and peaceful village of Challacombe and within the Exmoor National Park. Within 300 yards is an excellent pub with award-winning food and real ales, and a handy general shop and Post Office with delicious home-made cakes. Challacombe has excellent local walks and in an ideal central location from which to explore Exmoor, the sandy beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde, and the spectacular coastline of North Devon & Somerset.
The Farmhouse is one of five holiday cottages (known as "Exmoor Cottage Holidays") converted from a former farm. The cottages form a 'U' shape around a charming courtyard and each has a log burning stove and a private enclosed garden. The other four cottages (sleeping 1-5 people) are all available separately, please look under "Challacombe". The owners, John & Melanie Moore, like to greet all customers personally and are available at the cottages most days to feed the birds and help you plan your day.

Absolutely beautiful cottage, well maintained and very clean. Situated in close proximity to such places as Ilfracombe , Lynton, Woolacombe etc. We had a short stay, and we were made very welcome by … More
Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your kind review. We are really happy that you enjoyed your stay, found the cottage to be cosy and comfortable. The Black Venus is excellent - how lucky that it is just a stroll away! We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Very best wishes Melanie and John
“Lovely Cosy Pet Friendly Farmhouse and welcoming hosts.”
The Farmhouse is very cosy in a great peaceful location. I love the way all the cottages have their own secluded garden / outside space and also there is a lovely area for a quick morning or evening walk on their land above the cottages. Melanie and John are very knowledgeable and helpful with information about the local area and good walks for the dogs. The food at the local pub was great, very reasonably prices and is dog friendly. The local Farmshop a few miles away has an amazing selection of meat and everything you could want from a Farmshop. There is no phone signal in the area but that was a bonus for us and you have great Wifi in the cottage. I would definitely recommend Exmoor Cottage Holidays and plan to return again.
Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your review of your stay in our Farmhouse. We are pleased that you enjoyed having an enclosed garden and the shared grounds too - this is a big plus for many of our guests. We are glad that we could chatter with you about local walks etc. we love this area and are always happy to share our knowledge with our guests. The local pub is indeed great and the farm shop, about 3 miles away, is as you say 'everything you could want from a farm shop'. There is a bit of EE mobile signal - but not much...if you do need mobile though a lot of phones can do WiFi calling...but like you say - sometimes it is a bonus to be out of signal for a few days! Thank you for mentioning our WiFi - it was recently upgraded to FTTP - we are glad that you liked it. We look forward to welcoming you for your return visit (s). Best wishes Melanie and John

“Ideal base for a walking holiday”
Stayed here for a family walking holiday. The farmhouse is spacious and comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped. The owners met us on arrival and were very informative about the area. The Black Venus, just up the road, is friendly and serves good food and beer. Next time we're visiting the area, this is where we'll stay.
Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely review. We are indeed in an ideal location for walking holidays, with lots of excellent walks in the village without using your car, and brilliant walks nearby. We look forward to welcoming you again (and please ask us about our favorite local walk to Chapmans Barrows!).

We enjoyed chatting with you and look forward to seeing you again soon. Very best wishes John & Melanie.

“Amazing”
We stayed 21st-28th October 2017, & what a fabulous holiday we had. The accommodation was everything we could have wished for. The owners were very welcoming & helpful with recommendations of places to visit & eat. Can't wait for our next stay, we would certainly recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting to explore the beauty of exmoor.

“Cosy Exmoor stay”
Had a fantastic time the cottage is the quintessential Exmoor cottage just the most lovely relaxing time. Well equipped and beautifully clean. Lovely evenings spent in front of the fire no tv on just great conversation and a large glass of red. The pub The Black Venus in the village serves excellent home cooked country style food. Probably lovely in the summer but for me to hunker down in the winter is just fab.
Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely review. Winter on Exmoor is stunning...as you say, switch off the TV and relax in front of the fire - bliss. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in out traditional Farmhouse and look forward to welcoming you back again very soon.
