Description from owner

Description

Relax, at Exmoor Cottage Holidays, in front of the log-burning stove, or dine al fresco on the decking outside this charming cottage which is all on one level, ideal for couples & pets, and anyone who may have difficulty with stairs. Wisteria Cottage is in a peaceful village (Challacombe) location and is very warm and comfortable with character features, private enclosed patio, large children's play area and just five minutes walk from a shop and pub.

Wisteria Cottage (part of "Town Tenement Farm") is exceptionally cosy and snug, having recently been renovated from a barn to modern standards (including full double-glazing and very highly insulated). There is a large living room with log-burning stove, comfortable seating and Freeview TV. There are large folding doors to a decking overlooking a lovely private enclosed garden with a picnic table.

There is a well-equipped kitchen/dining room with oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washer-dryer, a generous king-size double bedroom (which can be made into a twin) and a lovely shower-room with a large shower cubicle, hand-basin & WC.

No-one can get bored at Wisteria Cottage. If the free WiFi and nearly 100 Freeview TV channels aren't enough there are many books, games & DVD's, and three acres of grounds to explore; with wild-flower meadows, wildlife pond; and a delightful walk up and around Humphrey's Hill, where there are lovely views of Exmoor, perfect for a picnic.

A cot, high chair & fire guard are available free of charge, and towel sets available for hire (£5 per set of bath towel and hand towel). Dogs are very welcome (£18 per stay for each dog) and there is a lovely walk through the grounds where they can run off-lead. Hand-soap, cleaning materials and tea towels are provided, and a welcome pack with many essentials (until you can get to a shop) including a basket of logs & kindling, tea, coffee, sugar, fresh milk, bin bag, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner & matches.

Wisteria Cottage is in the quiet and peaceful village of Challacombe and within the Exmoor National Park. Within 300 yards is an excellent pub with award-winning food and real ales, and a handy general shop and Post Office with delicious home-made cakes. Challacombe has excellent local walks and is an ideal central location from which to explore Exmoor, the sandy beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde, and the spectacular coastline of North Devon & Somerset.

Wisteria Cottage is one of five holiday cottages (known as "Exmoor Cottage Holidays") converted from a former farm. The cottages form a 'U' shape around a charming courtyard and each has a log burning stove and a private enclosed garden. The other four cottages (sleeping 1-6 people) are also available, look under "Challacombe". The owners, John & Melanie Moore, like to greet all customers personally and are at the cottages most days to feed the birds and help you plan your day.

Getting around

Car drives offer the best flexibility for seeing the sights and getting around in our area. There is a taxi company in the village for tours. Alternatively there are many walks from the cottage door - including a short walk to the shop/Post Office and local pub (with award winning food).

Interaction with guest

John & Melanie welcome each guest, to Exmoor Cottage Holidays, personally and are usually on-site to help you get the very most from your stay (and to feed the birds!). We have lived in the area since 1997 and can advise the best walks, places to visit, restaurants, local attractions, etc. and show you them on an Ordnance Survey map (which you may borrow). We can help light the fire in your cottage, show you how to keep it going, and liaise with local businesses - and we usually have some special offers just for our guests.

“Peaceful,in beautiful surroundings with amazing owners”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2017

Melanie and John are extremely friendly and very helpful with vast knowledge of area. They told us it wasn't a power shower but we had no trouble at all with it. So quiet and peaceful a great place to rest and chill out. Cottage itself was very roomy, and comfortable and the fire was an absolute boon! Shop and pub within easy walking distance ( even for old biddies like ourselves!) easy to find and not down a one track lane - unlike a lot of farm accommodation! Would highly recommend this cottage and hope to visit again.

Owner's reply: Thank you for such a lovely review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in our Wisteria Cottage - it is indeed a great place to rest and chill out. We are very lucky with our location - easy access, near to shop and great pub....yet still quiet. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

“4th Visit”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2016

Yes, same place four years running and going next year. Why? When you find a good thing it's hard to give it up. This cottage is just perfect. One can see this cottage, with the others, has been proudly restored by Melanie & John, the owners. And they continue to take pride in making sure you have a good stay. There is nothing I can write against it. Forth year, yet we still found new places to visit. A lovely cottage in a lovely place, where you can walk for miles on footpaths from the cottage or just sit outside and take in the countryside. Get in your car and visit so many places, sand & sea, villages, steam trains, coastal walks, moorland walks so so much. See you next year.

Owner's reply: Thank you for another great review. As always it was a pleasure to see you both. We've been here nearly 20 years and are still finding new walks and things to do! Thank you for booking your fifth holiday with us for next year (high praise indeed!) and we look forward to seeing you then.
