The Cumbria region
One of the most popular tourist attraction in Northern England is the Hadrian' s Wall.
The built of the defensive fortification of Roman-Brittan begun at AD 122, during the rule of emperor Hadrian.
Most of its path, from Newcastle in the east to Bowness-on-Solway in the west, can be followed on foot or by cycle on the National Cycle Route72.
In history the region then became famous for its Border Reivers who raided the Anglo-Scottish border from the late 13th to the 17th century.
Boustead Hill is in the north of Cumbria, on the Solway coast. Which is an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Looking north from the marsh you can see across the estuary to Scotland.
From early spring on we are a magnet for walkers of the Hadrian' s Wall who start or finish the Roman wall walk further west in Bowness-on-Solway.
The area is a haven for birds and other wildlife alike.

"Delightful and spacious accommodation in an interesting area"
We stayed for 5 days in this extremely well converted dairy building in the courtyard of an old farm building where the owners Rafaela and Steven live. It is extremely quiet. The open plan lounge/ kitchen is very spacious and fitted out to a high standard (induction hob included!). There is a walk-in shower in the large bathroom and a terrace outside the large windows. There is a delightful large garden just across the drive which, over friendly chickens notwithstanding, is delightful place for reading. We hoped to do catch up on some work but unfortunately the wifi was not up to it. The small remote hamlet seems at the end of the world though only a 15min drive into Carlisle. Big skies, long walks along the Solway shore but rather threatening (probably just inquisitive) heifers which roam wild. If you have a spare couple of hours nip over to Carlisle airport where the ex-mayor of Keswick, now gyroplane instructor extraordinaire, will take you for a ride in his gyrocopter for a stunning view of the lakes or Hadrian's wall (http://www.cumbriagyroplanes.co.uk). Rafaela is a delightful and interesting owner and makes every effort to ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay in this interesting area.
I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the Robin cottage. It was our pleasure having you and thank you for your positive review.Hopefully you will have many more exciting hours in the air (around here?)and that we might see you both again on another occasion. All the best for you both, Raphaela
