The Devon region
The South Hams is such a treasure trove of interesting and unspoilt places to visit. Whether it's small market towns full of quirky, interesting shops or wide sandy beaches, we have it all! We are in an area classed as 'outstanding beauty' which really says it all! There are rugged cliff walks, the open magnificent space of Dartmoor and if you want nightlife, Plymouth city is a 30 minute drive. Great food is in abundance with a huge variety of pubs and restaurants closeby. The closest being the Dolphin Inn only a few minutes walk away.
Beaches: The ever popular Wonwell Beach is just down the road and boasts an unspoilt, uncrowded haven for holiday makers. It's great for swimming, kayaking, canoeing and just relaxing! Bigbury on Sea with the famous Burgh Island is a 10 minute drive.
Pennywell Farm Activity Centre, Woodlands Family Theme Park and The Aquarium, Plymouth are within half an hours drive.
There are an awful lot of beaches to choose from in the South Hams area and it is worth exploring to find your own preference, depending on whether you prefer sands or shingle, small coves or large beaches, or are prepared to walk. There is Thurlestone Sands, with its wide sandy beach is one of several locally owned by the National Trust and attracts both families and water sports enthusiasts. The wide sandy beach is backed by a nature reserve where rare and exciting birds have been spotted. Or Bantham (great for surfing, sandy - 20 mins), Beesands (shingle and large - 15 mins), huge stretch from Torcross along Slapton Leys (shingle - 10 mins), Hope Cove (small, sandy - 15 mins) and Blackpool Sands (beautiful clean water sports - 20 mins) driving.
Thurlestone Golf Club is a 5 minute walk away. It is one of the most beautiful courses in the South West of England, set in about 50 spectacular acres on the cliff top with beautiful sea views.. The course is a mix of links and cliff-top terrain with the latter providing breath-taking views of the legendary Thurlestone Rock to the East and the beautiful Avon Estuary and Burgh Island to the West. It provides ideal holiday golf - not too severe with quite generous fairways.
