Ivy House mid wales borders perfect for family & friends
Wonderful

Perfect place to stay for our group of 8 friends. Comfortable beds, relaxing living room, everything we needed in the well-equipped kitchen and immaculately clean. We enjoyed eating lunch in the garden in the sun when we arrived. Beautiful walks from the door, through woodland and access to Offa’s Dyke. Great location for a walking holiday. Excellent communication from Ann from booking to departure. Many thanks, we’ll definitely be back.see more
Upper House - Tudor Manor House in Welsh Marches
Great place with bags of character

We chose this place as I always like to go somewhere quirky and interesting at the February half term, and we weren’t disappointed. The photographs do not do the character of this building justice in any way. Downstairs the floor is flagged, with a small area of underfloor heating and there are three main rooms – kitchen, TV room, and living room. There is a fabulous Inglenook fireplace in the living room which really can pump out the heat, something that you really need in a house this age in Feb! There is also a woodburning stove in the TV room and a Rayburn in the kitchen to provide independent heating sources from the central heating. The kids absolutely loved the hidden staircase which winds up from the entrance hall to the upper room with two single beds, which automatically became theirs. This is the most impressive of the upstairs rooms, with the exposed beamwork being at its most dramatic. There are two further double bedrooms, one with the most sloping floor that can be just negotiated, and one in the most modern part which is better for the less adventurous. We loved the way that one side of the bed in the sloping bedroom had been built up to make the bed level. All the upper room floors have polished oak floorboards, lovely to walk on in bare feet. The whole house has an immense charm, but more than that the way it has been lovingly restored by its owners has created a very peaceful atmosphere. They were very pleasant people, making sure there was more than enough firewood for both the fires – I have been annoyed in other places when only given enough for one night and then having to locate more myself. The welcome basket was good too – over and above the normal standard. I particularly liked the camembert, local homemade jam, and nice tin of biscuits. The kitchen was well enough stocked to get by in terms of cutlery, china, glass etc. The owners John and Annie live just outside in a converted barn, and they were pleasant and helpful. It wasn’t the time of year to make the most of outside, but there is a very attractive outside space with a paved area with a raised fishpond leading to a large grassy area. I imagine it would be delightful in the summer. We had a lovely time, and would really recommend this house to either families or adult groups. And as an aside there are lots of good books to browse if you have the time!see more
