“Amazing Hosts, Ideal Location and Lovely Cottage!” I visited Cheddar for the weekend for my Dad's 63rd birthday with my partner, and my Dad's 2 dogs.
Helen is a perfect host, she makes sure you feel at home for the duration of your trip. She is happy to recommend walks, restaurants, pubs and days out. I was amazed at the personal touches which really did make the difference, when we arrived we were already supplied with tea / coffee / milk / sugar / biscuits and even a birthday cake for my Dad!
The location is ideal, just facing the ticket / tourist information point for Cheddar Gorge. There are numerous tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and a tesco and sainsbury's nearby. So there is always something to keep you busy if you have any energy left after Gorge Walks!
It may be known for being the namesake of the nation's favourite cheese, but this little village isn't cheesy. In fact, it's delightfully traditional and is the perfect destination for a family getaway.
Why not book your holiday rental in Cheddar today so you can start exploring?
One of the most interesting things about Cheddar is that the Cheddar Gorge sits on its northern edge. It's the largest gorge in the UK and is one of the biggest attractions in the area!
People have lived within and around the gorge since neolithic times – there was once a Saxon palace there! Now it is a quaint village with cobbled streets and a strong community feel! See what you can discover during your stay.
What To Do
If you're a fan of cheese, go to the Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company! It's the only place in the village that still makes the cheese this area is known for. They hand-make each piece of unpasteurised cheddar and long-mature it in the traditional way. You can learn everything you'd possibly want to know about the process and can even take some treats home from the gift shop.
Some people don't know this, but Cheddar is also known for its strawberries. Make sure you try some during your stay!

Cheddar Holiday Cottage - relax in Somerset
Spacious, comfortable family friendly cottage
A lovely cottage nestled at the edge of a beautiful woodland with easy walking access to all amenities and attractions in Cheddar and Cheddar Gorge. The cottage is spacious with comfortable beds and a lovely living room with wood burning stove. We settled in straight away, as we arrived to find tea, coffee, fresh milk and chocolate brownies, as well as cheddar cheese in the fridge! The cottage was so well equipped, with everything we needed and more. The kids loved playing in the garden with Vanessa and Jerry's dog, Brian and we all enjoyed playing the games we found in the living room! We used the barbecue and large table and patio area to cook and eat outside one evening and finished off toasting marshmallows over a campfire that Jerry had set up especially for us. Vanessa and Jerry couldn't have been more helpful and were always there if we needed anything. A fantastic base for exploring Cheddar and Somerset. …
Clover Croft lodge - Tor Farm
great lodge with all that you need and to a high standard. The hot tub just makes the place and so quiet we spent 2 hours every night just chilling in the hot tub. …
Somerset log cabin - Tor Farm
What a fabulous place. The lodge is spacious, modern and really warm. The kitchen has everything you need for a self catering break. The view, the peace and quiet, and Mother Nature at her best! The highlight of the break of course is the wonderful hot tub - basking in the warm waters gazing up at the stars. Would definitely recommend a stay at Tor Farm. …
The apartment is lovely! It had everything we needed. It was warm and very comfortable. It was extremely clean and tidy, the cleanest place we’ve stayed in on holiday.
The location is excellent, short walk to the beginning of the gorge walk and a short walk to the shops, cafes and pubs.
The view from the living room window is great. Goats can be seen climbing the rocks.
If I was to pick out a negative, it would be that the water pressure is low. The taps run quite slowly and the shower speed is not great, but we managed ok.
Thank you Ashley and Jan, your apartment is great! …
Highcroft Cottage, central Cheddar
Lovely cottage, fantastic location for exploring Cheddar and the Mendips.
Brilliant location with Cheddar Gorge practically on its doorstep. Wonderful views of the Gorge from the balcony. Comfortable, clean cottage for four adults and two beagles. Nice welcome pack and greeting from owners who were very accessible for help if needed. Lovely garden with mesh, low level fencing all around but, in our opinion, not secure enough for adventurous or larger dogs who could jump over in places, hence the four stars instead of five as we weren't confident enough to allow our dogs to run free in the garden. However, the balcony was secure so the dogs did have a little outdoor space to roam around outside. Overall, we had a fab holiday. …
