The West Country region

At the heart of the West Country, Somerset is a destination of dramatic coastline, seaside resorts, epic English countryside, and historic places.

Described by the ancient Welsh Celts and the Saxons as the Land of the Summer People, Somerset is a county of captivating contrasts.

Its coast takes in long sweeping sandy beaches, seaside resorts, harbours and marinas, and the dramatic Exmoor coastline.

Venture inland to an epic countryside of protected landscapes, rolling hills, wild moorlands, ancient woodlands and wetland habitats, dotted with historic towns and villages.

At the heart of what makes Somerset tick is its' distinctive culture and history that includes willow and cider making, great local food & drink, the legends of Kings Arthur and Alfred and much more.

Wells

A perfect base to explore the City of Wells (England's smallest city) with it's moated Bishops Palace, magnificent Cathedral, and historic Market Place - a hub of bars, cafes and restaurants.

Glastonbury with it's legend of King Arthur and of course the Tor and Abbey ruins is a short drive away.

Cheddar and Cheddar Gorge, and of course sampling some Cheddar Cheese is a must on the itinerary, plus Wookey Hole, Bath, Longleat and Weston Super Mare are only a short drive.

There are numerous walks, national trust trails through the woods, public footpaths, literally on the doorstep.

"Beautiful place. Value for money."

We stayed at The Stables in April 2014. The rooms are big. The place is very quiet and private. Just what we needed. We sat outside and enjoyed the sun while the day went by. We went out on the Town … More

"Brilliant cottage, beautiful surroundings!"

I stayed here with my boyfriend over New Years for 6 nights, we had a fantastic time. The cottage is beautiful with everything you could need to make your stay comfortable - even hair straighteners!
The surroundings are also amazing with incredible scenery and lots to do. You would need a car but Bath is very close for a day and and we had a great walk around the top of the Cheddar Gorge.
I would definitely recommend the Stables for anyone that would like a lovely break away!

Thankyou SO much, I am over the moon with this review. Thankyou for choosing to stay at Beaconsfield Farm to celebrate the New Year. I hope to welcome you back again soon. Carol
