The Peak District National Park region

Cycling, walking, climbing, gliding, horse-riding - the Peak District National Park has it all. Formed in 1951, it covers some 555 square miles and is the second most visited National Park in the world. Although most of the Peak District is in Derbyshire, parts of it also span Staffordshire, Cheshire and West Yorkshire.

Known previously for its spa towns (Buxton, Matlock), it's still possible to fill your own bottles for free in Buxton. The area is also famous for Bakewell Puddings (though the purists would not entertain Mr Kipling's tart as an original Peak District invention).

The area is also home to Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, both of which featured in the latest Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice films.

Annual well dressings are held in villages throughout Derbyshire.

Hartington's greatest claim to fame has to be it's Stilton Cheese. Manufactured on a grand scale for many years, the manufacture is now a much smaller operation, but just as tasty. Try the local cheese shop they have lots of locally produced cheese and plenty of crackers.

Close to the Tissington and High Peak trails makes Hartington a mecca for cyclists.

The area boasts hundreds of country walks, from tea shop trails to strenuous hill walking. Some of our visitors have even left us their old boots in the bin at the end of their stay.
