About this location

The Derbyshire region

Holly Cottage is near to the market town of Ashbournein the Derbyshire Dales, on the edge of the Peak District. Ashbourne has a weekly market and provides excellent shops for either browsing or buying. On Shrove Tuesday the ancient game of Ashbourne football is played through the streets of the town, with as many as 400 people in each team. It's a sight to behold, however joining in is not for the fainthearted!!

The Peak District National Park was the first to be created in England, covering over 500 sq miles and is right on the doorstep. The beautiful countryside is ideal for walking and cycling. There are numerous towns and villages to explore, either on foor or by car. Many National Trust properties and stately homes are within easy reach, and the surrounding villages hold Well Dressing ceremonies throughout the summer, where the local residents decorate the village well with thousands of flower petals, as they have done for hundreds of years.
