It has been converted by a local builder with great care to retain many original features whilst creating a warm and welcoming cottage in which to truly unwind and get away from it all.

THE KITCHEN

As you come through the front door you enter a fully equipped kitchen with a dining area. There is plenty of china etc. and extra chairs if you want to entertain a few friends or family. It has all that you need for a comfortable hassle-free stay including a full sized electric oven, a microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and automatic washer-dryer.

SITTING ROOM

From the kitchen you ascend the original steep narrow stairs up to a galleried sitting room and double bedroom both of which overlook woodland. The sitting room has comfortable seating, oak furniture and a Sony 28” LCD TV and DVD player. There is a supply of books to choose from, games to play and plenty of tourist information and maps to help you plan your stay. We even supply you with binoculars and a bird book so that you can view the many visitors to our bird feeder which you can view directly from the window.

THE BEDROOM AND EN-SUITE

The bedroom is furnished with oak furniture and has a King sized (5ft) pocket sprung divan bed and a small remote controlled TV. There is an en-suite bathroom with an over-bath shower and sloping ceiling.

SITTING OUT AREA

In front of the cottage is Russets own private sitting out area surrounded by containers of plants with garden furniture, an umbrella and a Weber charcoal barbecue.

OUT AND ABOUT

If you want a rest from driving there is access onto a public footpath just outside the garden, and the Vanguard Way is only 10 minute's walk away. Several vineyards in the vicinity produce some rather good wines which can be sampled and bought.

The Bluebell Steam Railway makes frequent journeys from Sheffield Park, with its period railway station and frequent special evening and week-end events for all ages. A great day out can also be enjoyed on the Ashdown Forest, the home of Winnie the Pooh and his friends, is less than 2 miles away, which is an ideal setting for wildlife and offers the perfect recipe for picnics, walking and riding.

This is an area rich in historic houses and beautiful gardens. Glyndebourne Opera House is only 30 minute's drive. Why not have a day out, do some shopping and take in the Georgian Spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells or visit the seaside towns of Brighton or Eastbourne. Battle Abbey and 1066 country are both within easy reach. Or how about hiring a bike and taking a ride on the Cuckoo Trail. The Hurstwood (reviews on Tripadvisor) which is the nearest pub is just a 7 minute stroll away.

“Great stay in a lovely cottage”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2014

We had a wonderful time at this lovely cottage. The cottage is spotlessly clean, well equipped and extremely comfortable. The bed and sofa were blissfully comfortable. There were very kind added extras that made us feel completely at home. The cottage is set in a rural location, yet close to a lot of fantastic places (Brighton, Hever Castle, Lewes to name but a few!). We had a deer for a neighbour and heard bird song every day. We will definitely go back.

Thank you for giving us such a lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday and hope to welcome you back sometime in the future. Kind regards, Joan

“A perfect holiday cottage”

Reviewed 12 Jul 2014

We were looking for a holiday cottage primarily to use as base for visiting the south east coastal areas and attractions. We were not disappointed. The cottage was immaculate and the owner was keen to make us welcome. Indeed, she even sent us some local information prior to our visit to help us with our plans. Everything we could have needed was available to us in the cottage including wifi. There was plenty of room throughout the property with good facilities outside for eating and relaxing after a busy day visiting. We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage and hope to make a return in the future. We would not hesitate in recommending this cottage to others.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. We are always delighted to hear that our visitors enjoyed their stay. We look forward to welcoming you back some time in the future. Kind regards, Joan Cooper

“Cosy, well-appointed and comfortable home from home.”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2014

I stayed at Russets Cottage for a lengthy stay of 8 weeks, and I was made very welcome indeed by Joan. The cottage was extremely well equipped and there was everything I could have needed for my stay, plus home made cakes and a bottle of wine on arrival, which was lovely! The bed was extremely comfortable and the whole place was very warm and cosy. There are lovely walks nearby and a very good 'gastro pub' only a short stroll away, but the cottages are secluded none the less, and very close to the beautiful Ashdown Forest. Each cottage has its own area of garden. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Russets and left feeling that I had enjoyed a very long and relaxing holiday. There is a drawer full of maps, local information leaflets, games, books and puzzles, plus a selection of DVDs and a DAB radio - not much left wanting really.

Thank you for taking the trouble to write such a kind and comprehensive review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your time with us. With kind regards, Joan Cooper

“This is a must stay!”

Reviewed 26 May 2014

Our recent stay in the Russets cottage was most enjoyable and we would not hesitate to make a return visit.. The accomodation was fully equiped, impeccably clean and very comfortable. The complentary bottle of wine is a nice finishing touch. It is also a bird watchers delight.

Thank you very much for your kind and full review. We hope that sometime we will be able to welcome you back to Russets. With very best wishes, Joan Cooper
