Location description from owner

The England region

Situated just off England's South coast and less than 2 hours from London via the Isle of Wight Ferry or Red Funnel from Southampton, the UK's Premier Holiday Island is the perfect destination at any time of year. From historic sites to natural delights, major national events, the Isle of Wight has something for everyone. With 57 miles of varied coastline the Island yields a fantastic array of beaches which are recognised as being some of the best in Europe and were awarded a combined total of 17 Blue Flag and Seaside Awards in 2015 – more than any other destination in England! With miles of award winning sand and shingle beaches, rugged cliffs, hidden coves and clear waters, a trip to the beach is an essential part of any visit to the Island. There is such a wide variety of things to do on the Isle of Wight during your Holiday, you'll want to come back again and again.

Freshwater

Colwell Bay is a picturesque beach in West Wight, offering spectacular views back across the Solent to mainland England and a clear view of The famous Needles and open sea in the opposite direction. It is a small, easily-accessible beach on the north-west coast, with clear, calm waters and gently sloping sand and shingle beaches, making it an ideal beach for swimming. This is a popular family beach, with a traditional seaside cafe just before you reach the beach, and beach hut shops on each side of the slipway selling everything from ice-creams and snacks to inflatable toys and wet suits. If you are looking to make a day of it you can hire deck chairs and beach huts from the beach shop. On the road down to the shore there is a bar plus if you walk along the sea wall to the left you will find a bistro style restaurant, The Hut. The beach is down a short road from the main Yarmouth to Totland road, there is a good sized car park with toilets and access for the disabled is good. There is a lovely walk from here along the sea wall to Totland Beach. Included in the panoramic views from here across the Solent is the striking Hurst Castle, and just along the Island coast to the right you can spy the former Victorian gun tower of Fort Albert. This is an ideal place to see yachts sailing by on the Solent waters as the gap between the Isle of Wight and the mainland at this point is relatively narrow. Colwell Bay was recommended by the Marine Conservation Society for the quality of its waters in 2015. Colwell Bay currently holds a Blue Flag award.

“Clean comfortable with beautiful views.”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2016

Wonderful chalet. Handy for beach and lovely walks. Ideal for a quieter peaceful holiday. The chalet is a good size for a family and the owner is very helpful. It is beautifully situated on the quieter side of the island. There is a shop on site which is great for basics. The local beach was perfect for looking for pebbles or paddling. Not too many local amenities although could walk to Colwell Bay. Needed to drive to get to places ie sight seeing or shopping. Overall a fantastic holiday. Thankyou.

“Comfortable, Affordable and Amazing Location”

Reviewed 2 Mar 2015

My partner and myself wanted to take our 3 young children aged 3, 6 and 9 on a week's break somewhere during half term and decided on the Isle of Wight. After looking at various accommodation options we booked "The Summerhouse" because of its reasonable prices, close vicinity to the beach and the facilities it offered. Upon arrival we found a lovely, spacious and welcoming chalet which is excellently maintained and equipped. Its location less than 5 minutes walk from a sandy beach was perfect for the children and the park it is situated on had everything we needed. We would highly recommend this property to couples and families alike who are looking for great value accommodation and we are planning to return in the spring of 2015.
