From the owner

North Lodge is our restored detached riverside cottage near Kilmartin in the Argyll village of Ford which lies close to the southern end of Loch Awe about 4 miles from Kilmartin on the Oban to Lochgilphead road about 25 minutes drive from the sea at Ardfern or Crinan.

It is fully equipped and comfortable with full electric heating system on full time reduced tarrif and a wood burning stove with free logs in the sitting room. The cottage is fully insulated..All electricity to be paid for at cost from meter readings after deduction of free allowance of £20 per week or £3 per night short breaks. Logs for fire included.

Formerly the lodge at the entrance to the Ederline Estate the cottage is ideally situated for holiday makers to enjoy a wide range of activities including walking, biking the forest trails, riding, boating or fishing. Retaining many original features but fully insulated and heated with a wood burning stove (free logs) this is a comfortable and well equipped home. Outside we have access to the stream, and a picnic table as well as a summer house view point up the hill at the rear (table chairs and bbq provided. There is a shed for bike storage and a separate log store and off road parking.

The area is rich in history with many castles to explore and the early Celtic remains.

Oban is within easy reach for day trips to the inner isles of Mull or Iona. The picturesque fishing villages of Tarbert, Tayvallich and Crinan with their fine eating places are a short ride away.

The area is rich with wild life. Deer on the hills, golden and white tailed sea eagles not uncommon, Osprey nest nearby. Beavers, pine martins are to be seen and we often have red squirrels in the garden. sea trips from Ardfern, a 20 minute ride away open up the amazing Sound of Jura with the Gulf of Corrivreckan and its notorious whirlpool to be explored.

You might catch sight of one of a number of golden eagles or sea eagles which nest in the area. In our garden we have seen red squirrels, heron and a wide variety of bird life. Osprey breed nearby and at nesting time may often be seen over the Loch. Red deer too are a common sight.

Owner's reply:
We appreciate the thoughtful comments following a winter let. We have addressed the cobwebs and dust comments and apologise for this slip up. We stay in the cottage ourselves about every 6 weeks and I have have impaired immunity and can't risk damp or breathing problems. The cottage is old but is completely dry lined with insulated walls, floor and roof but the high natural humidity levels can lead to condensation to counter which we now leave the storage heater on in the kitchen and all the internal doors open. which we hope will help the situation..
