“Beautiful, quirky property in a gorgeous part of the country” We stayed here for three nights just after New Year, and had a wonderful break. I kept the nature of the property a surprise for my wife, who couldn't believe it when we rolled up and discovered we were staying in a restored signal box. The owners have done an astounding job of doing it up. It's beautifully decorated and furnished, with amazing original features and attention to detail. There are lovely pubs a short drive away, and it's just half an hour from Ullswater, but even if you don't want to drive, the surrounding countryside is gorgeous, and the property itself is a wonderful place to relax.
“Gibson Cottage, Stainton” We loved our stay. Cottage was great. Suzanne was lovely at offering advice regards to local area. Cottage was warm and cosy. The restaurant next door was great at catering for my sons allergies.
“Wonderful” We stayed at Bluebell Cottage from 21/10 for 6 nights, a family of four 2 adults and 2 children aged 9 and 11 and a dog.
Firstly the response time from Paul the owner was great any questions were quickly answered, thank you Paul.
From the outside the cottage looks beautiful and is right on the village green in a tiny quiet farming village. The inside is also lovely. You enter into the main room which is large and has a dinner table with plenty of chairs and two comfy chairs in front of the log burner. To the left is large kitchen which has everything you could need, fully stocked with cutlery and crockery and plenty of utensils, washing machine, dishwasher and a fridge (no freezer).
To the back of the house is another room which is very cosy and has two chairs and a large sofa and open fire place.
Upstairs has some lovely views, especially from the twin bedroom which looks out onto sheep grazing and the mountains, the boys liked their room and there was plenty of space for them. The main bedroom is large and has an extremely comfy bed and plenty of pillows. The bathroom is very big and had a wonderful shower.
The property was very clean and very warm, I would most definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.
You will need a car to get around as it's about a 30 min drive to any of the 'attractions' such as Keswick, Ullswater etc.
There is a little pub a 2 min walk away from the cottage, however this is only open Wednesday to Sunday from 6pm and only serving food Thursday - Sunday 6-9, dogs are welcome here too. There is also another pub and tea room a 5 min drive away in Melmbry not sure of the timings for these but did notice the pub was shut Mon and Tuesday.
We had a fantastic time staying here and are looking to return soon!
I've included a couple of pictures of the views from the bedroom and landing windows.
