Porter's lodge by a histiric steam railway station
Perfect - especially for train lovers!
We’ve just returned from a long weekend at the Porters Lodge. The cottage is in a wonderful location, especially if (like my husband) you love steam trains. It’s also beautifully situated in the Dee valley with hills and moorland around you.
The cottage is clean, tidy and really well equipped with everything you need. The lounge is really cosy - the window is partly obscured by the stairs, but watching the trains is better from the platform! The kitchen is fully equipped and has a fridge/freezer, full sized oven/hob and even a washer/drier. There is a dining table which seats 4 situated under a large window. The bathroom has a large shower cubicle (no bath) and is on the ground floor. The bedroom is in the attic so has sloping ceilings. The windows are velux windows - the fire escape one has amazing views of the railway! Our Labrador, Welly came with us and there’s a lovely enclosed playing field immediately opposite the cottage which he could run in. There are plenty of walks from the cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed a day travelling up and down the railway, visiting Llangollen, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (4.5 mile walk from Ty Mawr Country Park is excellent), Chirk castle and Erdigg (NT properties). We had food delivered to the cottage by Tesco’s and ate in after long, busy days sightseeing, although there are pubs locally. There’s plenty more to see and do and so we’re sure we’ll return again! …
