“Do not hesitate to book just save a week for us to return” We love Garlieston and this part of the world I feel myself relax as soon as we arrive
The cottage is lovely, Betty has taken time out to furnish it with care, it is very warm, too warm we turned the heating off in April, it is very clean and the bonus for us was bringing the dogs with us. We certainly will return and I am glad we left our caravan at home this trip. Our 19 year old son is a keen photographer and Betty took time out to text us suggestions for quirky photo opportunities we would never have found, he has really enjoyed his weekend away and going home with nearly a 1000 photos. I was worried it might be too quiet for him and his girlfriend but they have enjoyed it and the weather hasn't been too bad for an April Easter weekend
We would recommend the Steam Packet Pub in the Isle of Whithorn the food is always good, St Ninian's cave is a lovely walk and Rigg Bay is beautiful, you can walk from the cottage it takes about 30 minutes or drive round and park in Galloway House it is £3 to park which I thought was a lot to be honest. I like Reading Lasses cafe in Wigtown they make lovely soup and sandwiches and we ate this time at the Craft Hotel in Wigtown it was ok and they had live music on. A taxi home was £20 one way as friends picked us up. Our son dog sat, I wish he'd brought his own car now to come and pick us up.
This cottage is a real gem, situated in a quiet & tranquil location. It's very well equipped, beautifully decorated & a true home from home. There's a garage that we could leave our bikes in. Google maps found the cottage easily, although we noticed that the location on the website map isn't accurate (the cottage is just outside Garlieston, as it says in the rental description). We look forward to visiting again, we had a fantastic long weekend stay. …
Shore Cottage and garden 50 yards from the beach
Cottage with character and charm near the sea
Shore cottage was a wonderful stay. We spent a week there, exploring Galloway and the Machars, and it was always a delight to come home to the cottage. Alex is a responsive and helpful host. The estate grounds are quite atmospheric, with the woods and walled garden, and the more formal garden near main house. The cottage is wonderfully secluded and peaceful, and there are a million stars on clear nights. The wood stove was welcome given the slight autumn chill, and sitting by the fire is such a pleasant way to spend the evening. Autumn visitors get apples, too, from the orchard in the cottage's garden - thank you, Alex! …

Cornmill Bed & Breakfast - Room One (Ellen Vanin)
Nearly walked away - incompletely-painted house looks poor from outside, but cozy and welcoming hosts.
Beautiful setting but quite unlike the photo, cozy boat-themed bedroom with well-stocked, cleverly designed compact en-suite bathroom. …
