Top Durham Travel Tips
Because of the congestion in the city centre, and the lack of parking options, a car is not the best way to get around. Public transport is pretty good, so why not leave the car at one of the city's Park and Ride stations and get the bus in to town?

We were welcomed to the apartment by Chris who showed us round and explained how everything worked and pointed us in the right direction to local restaurants and places of interest, which was very welcome as we had never visited Durham before. The apartment was fitted to a very high standard, with quality furniture and fixtures. Situated overlooking the river with views across to the cathedral and a short stroll into town, this was an ideal location for a short break. On arrival we were treated to a very nice welcome hamper, a very thoughtful touch. Without hesitation we would recommend this apartment. …
St Cuthbert's cottage Seaham.
Sea Glass Holiday
St Cuthbert Cottage is s perfect place to stay. It has s story book setting with a beautiful stream in the back, bunnies in the garden and birds chirping in the trees. I felt like I should be writing a Novel it was so beautiful and peaceful. The kitchen meet all my needs. I arrived on a snowy evening to a warm cottage from a fire in the fireplace made by the kindest host, Mick, prior to my arrival. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was hot. The walk from the cottage to Seaham Harbor is a beautiful 40 minute walk. Very picturesque. A taxi is readily available to any point in Seaham for £3 one way as long as you plan ahead and avoid the school run hours. I stayed alone in the cottage, but it would be very comfortable for a family of 4. Mick arranged for me to have a warm stone massage at the cottage by Carole who did a great job and was very affordable. I would definitely stay at St Cuthbert’s Cottage again. …

Bracken Hill Farm Cottage nr Bishop Auckland Durham
Absolutely Perfect Place to Stay
A very warm welcome on arrival by Ang. It was obvious from the start that we would thoroughly enjoy our stay. The cottage is ideally placed so you have privacy but not isolated. Although we didn’t need to bother Ang for anything it was very clear that nothing would be too much trouble. The fridge was stocked with fresh eggs, milk and lovely local cheese. Fresh bread and biscuits as well as dog treats was a lovely surprise. The cottage was spacious, very clean and tastefully decorated. I could live there quite easily and comfortablely! The underfloor heating and not forgetting the superb log burner were taken full advantage of! We absolutely loved the place. And so did our dog! With a private and very secure garden overlooking a field with sheep. Just really added to the already stunning feel of the place. I’ve stayed in quite a few lodges/cottages but this place really does stand out from the rest. Although the pictures on here are lovely, you really do need to stay here to really appreciate how gorgeous this place is.
I now have to buy some of the smellies (smelled gorgeous) that are in the spa-like bathrooms! It really was like a spa experience under the waterfall shower!
Thank you Ang. A very welcome retreat indeed. I’m sure we will be back! That’s if you’ll have us again! …
Moonlight Apartment Durham
Great Price Great Location
We stayed two nights for my daughter's graduation and the location could not have been more perfect. It is only a short walk to the centre (5 mins) and Catherdral (10 mins).
Sharon was lovely. When we arrived, I rang her and she met us straight away, then helped us up to the apartment and showed us around. The secure basement parking is a bonus in the city centre.
The apartment was clean and very nicely decorated with comfortable beds. We cooked a meal in the apartment one of the nights and had all necessary utensils.
It was great having a welcome pack as not all apartments offer them. Not only did we have the basics but we also had luxury items like wine, crisps and chocolate, which was greatly appreciated! You can also let Ray know beforehand if you require gluten free bread.
Thank you Ray for a fantastic stay in your beautiful apartment. …
Durham Riverside Apartment - Elvet Bridge View
Luxury apartment in centre of Durham
This apartment is in an ideal location to visit Durham, its a five minute walk to the city centre. There was a nice selection of eating and drinking places near by. Parking was excellent as it was in a secured garage under the building. We met Chris the owner to let us in and he was very friendly and showed us everything we needed to know about the apartment. It was even better than the photos very well furnished etc there was everything you needed in the kitchen if you wanted to self cater but we ate out during our stay. Nice little touches like a welcome basket (wine, crisps, biscuits etc), milk & orange in the fridge also tea, coffee & sugar there too. Lovely toiletries in the bathrooms and robes etc. There is decking outside on the balcony and chairs & table to sit out and watch the boats go by. We would definitely recommend this apartment …
Black Dog House - Westgate - North Pennines - UK
Super very large family friendly cottage.
Cottage well exceeded our expectations, we stayed with own children and grand-children ranging from age 3yrs to 8yrs. Superb location with plenty to do close by.
Children especially enjoyed playing in the loft room with it's many toys and also splashing around in the water across the road behind the pub. The playground across the road was perfect for the younger children. Cottage was well equipped and had everything including thermos flasks when we went on a picnic. We also enjoyed some excellent meals out at the coach and horses in Eastgate and The Hare and Hounds across the road. Everyone enjoyed the scenic walks and cycling too. Great location, I'm sure that we will return again sometime in the future. …
